Birmingham O2 video

Short and sweet.  here’s some video from the gig yesterday.   I remember going to see concerts in the 80’s and getting bootleg video on VHS back then.  The stuff that is called “bootleg video” in 2012 makes bootleg video from back then look like something you’d pull out of your arse.   Some of this is quite darned high quality.  Check ’em out.

Sad to see Bill Ward being a Twitter. I expect it from Geezer. He’s always been really Spinal Tap about the drama. Hardly seems the time. But screw it.

The show sounds really damn good. There’s an outstanding audio torrent on Dime. Unbelievable setlist. Under the Sun AND Wheels of Confusion. And you know Ozzy’s feeling good when they do Symptom and SBS. Check me on this, but I believe it’s the longest set ever, at 111 minutes.

I respect Clufetos. Most guys would be tempted to overplay it, but Tommy’s being respectful, and is probably playing it more like Bill than Appice, Rondinelli, Bevan, or whoever else would be willing to do.

Everyone sounds extremely inspired. Ozzy sounds fucking terrific. I don’t care what anyone says.

  3. I think it’s good that they brought back ‘Wheels of Confusion to the setlist!! :) (now could they please bring back Bill as well!!

    • Luiz Souza says

Shitty rendition of it. Worse than the ’72 Australian Bootlegs. Cluefetos is so below the drum standards Bill established for Sabbath. But the cheerleaders will be offended, and not post it.

  4. Nice to see it. Could you please write the name of the substitute drummer?

  5. SABBATH SABBATH SABBATH !!!! I can’t wait to see the whole film!

  6. Screaming Doug says

Thanks Joe! I may have to retract my “not going to Lollapalooza” stance after seeing the setlist and hearing the power of the mighty Sabbath! lmL

  7. Brian Archer says

Watching this footage brings back saturday night – what an absolute blinder of a gig! The Mrs. and I had a brilliant time. We thought the band looked like they were having a good time on the night too, which is great. Loved every minute of it!

  8. Jeff Downing says

Gave me chills…..Tony is just unstoppable. Unshakable. Awesome. They sound really good, and I bet the vibe was through the ROOF. Even I was a little skeptical with recent drama, Tony’s sckness, and even Ozzy from clips I seen of him last year sounding very weak Here though he was good, and the perfoormance overall from what I have seen on Youtube was fantastic! BLACK SABBATH! When I saw the set list and songs like Wheels of Confusion and Under The Sun, I about fell over….man I wish I had been there. I hope they perform this well at Download and Lollapalooza! They continue to amaze…… :)

  9. it sure as fuck is great to see them back !

  10. Tommy Clufetos is a good drummer but he’s a straight stomper not a groover like Bill was. That is the problem. I suppose Bill isn’t fit enough to recreate what he did during the 70s. It is also highly likely that he isn’t able to play drums for the duration of a complete gig. That might be the reason behind the absence of him. They should have given the sticks to somebody who can recreate the spirit of the material in a proper way. Look at Tommy playing, the constant raising of his arms, his hair, the beard…he looks like somebody who had too much practiced in front of a mirror.

    • I agree…there are alot of drummers that actually could have taken over at the reunion year (2000?) . Bill simply didnt have the energy, and was the weakest, next to Ozzy for that initial Reunion gig. Ozzy’s voice was much better than now, though. No var Nice to see him having some fun with a drummer that at least has some energy going on, giving the gvery expressive now at all. At least that drummer gave the guitarists something to get down with. This is not the best drummer though, for Black Sabbath. The Funk is needed for it to really be Black Sabbath. Just like Black Oak Arkansas, its a key ingredient, and more drum /toms playing too. Getting that guy from Living Color, or Guitar Shortys drummer from ” We the People ” CD would be more true to the art and magic of Black Sabbath.

  11. woah my vid is in there! i recorded The Wizard! :D feel privileged my vid is being used on this site! thanks mate!

  12. Earl Mendenhall says

Drummer is doing a great job locking in with the band, riding the crash in Children of the Grave like Bill did originally. We could do without the exagerrated showmanship, but it seems to be part of his style. The guys are smiling and looking pleased from the get-go, and the band sounds powerful. Wish they work stuff out with Bill soon…continued improving health to Tony Iommi!! P.S. Ozzy, cut back just a little on the cheeseburgers ;)

    Two Words:

  14. Devirson Fredi Motta says

well , i would like to say that we are so hapy in brasil , tommie looks so good , we can wait to see black sabbath here , see you all in são paulo city , the rockest city in brasil…

  15. It’s great to see Tony on stage again!!!

  16. Derf Inoccuz says

The “heavy heart” that Geezer mentioned shows. Sorry, as much as I want to like it, they look old and tired, kinda like a machine, going through the motions. Still I’m sad.

  17. Great sound,chickenskin!!

  18. oh man those videos are awesome, Ive never heard a live version of wizard till today very nice. I think the show seemed to be very awesome however I am disappointed it is not the original line up. Still it looks like it was a phenomenal show. I have a little bit more hope for the new album but I still would rather have an original black sabbath album than an ozzy and friends album.

  19. Ezequiel says

Cluffetos did a proper job, but (to me) is not the drummer for Sabbath, I think they need someone more Hard Rocker… but still, watching and listening Tony delivering the goods makes my wanna cry.He never lost the quality, he is the “Heavy Metal” impersonated, love this guy.

  20. Tommy is doing an okay job on drumming but ceratinly not like Bill . There is that swingy sound with punch missing from the drums . if anyone could sound more like Bill it would be Mike Bordin . And to add , we all need to band together and get on everyone responsible for Bill not getting a fair shake and being excluded from the new disc and tour ! COME ON PEOPLE/FANS , LET’S DO THIS NOT ONLY BECAUSE WE WANT IT , BUT FOR BILL !

  21. I DON’T THINK THE NEW DRUMMER IS BAD BUT HE’S NO BILL !!!!!!!!I’M SURPRISE IOMMI AND COMPANY DON’T PAY ATTENTION …A AT THE END OF INTO THE VOID THIS GUY SOUNDS CLUE LESS …OR MAYBE HE WAS TRYING TO BE DIFFERENT FORM BILL WARD …BUT NO WAY IS THE SAME … NO BILL NO SABBATH …I’M SO DISSAPOINTED >>>IN IOMMI WHOM I ALWAYS CALLED MY HERO MY IDOL !! THIS IS SUCH A SAD SAD WORLD WE ARE LEAVING IT TODAY …IT’S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AND CONVENIENCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FORGET ABOUT YOUR BROTHERS AND YOUR FRIENDS AND FOR OVER FORTY YEARS I RESPECTED THE GUYS IN SABBATH ,BUT THIS HAS ALLREADY ENDED AND TO ME THEY ARE NO DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE GREEDY PEOPLE THAT ARE RUINNING THE WORLD TODAY ….I KNOW MY COMMENT DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING TONY GEEZA AND OZZY ….THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE GOING TO GET …I’M SURE BILL DID NOT ASK TO GET MORE THAN THE 3 STOOGES STARTING TODAY I WILL NEVER SPEND A DIME THAT BEARS THE NAME BLACK SABBATH ….. AND I HOPE A LOT OF US WHO BELIEVE IN FARENESS DO THE SAME …..F U!!!!!!!

  22. Well, I see what people mean about the drummer. I can say this from the point of view of a musician who has had to fill the shoes of a longtime band member: yeah, he’s being a little showy the way he raises his arms alot while playing, which may seem superficial to the true headbangers, and he is also playing kind of without alot of Bill Wards fills and general groove. But he’s undoubtably a bit nervous, even though he’s a seasoned touring musician, and no doubt being over-cautious and thus stiff about what he plays so as not to dominate the situation too much. Plus he’s not the most mind-blowing drummer that Ozzy’s had in his solo acts, but for one gig he got the job done…on short notice. Bill Ward’s still the only true Sabbath drummer as far as I’m concerned, it’s too bad legal stuff has to get in the way of art, but not surprising given their history. The guy played beats to the songs, but he did not PLAY the songs; There’s a difference.

  23. Fantastico !!!!
    Grazie

  24. MacGregor says

I agree with the drummer not right comments & have posted similar raves myself at planet rock & other sites. Why isn’t there any clips of the Under The Sun & Wheels Of Confusion? That rare classic period is what interests me, how many times do we have to hear Paranoid etc? Better start searching for the Vol 4 clips, if they are out there!

  25. MacGregor says

Found some good clips at youtube, Under The Sun is good, but Osbourne’s vocal drags Wheels Of Confusion down. Man that era (early 70’s) of Sabbath is supreme!

  26. Late coming Sabbath Fan says

There is no Black Sabbath without all of the guys. Whoever owns the name can call any group whatever he, or they want, but legal rights don’t make it right.
They NEVER should have announced a ‘reunion’ if everyone wasn’t onboard. They made the mistake. They falsely advertised themselves as ‘reuniting’ and Bill Ward is at fault also for being involved in the beginning since it seems that he never planned on working with them until he had this contract signed. We all lose until they get over their differences, whatever they are.

  27. Late coming Sabbath Fan says

I’ve seen Ozzy at least 12 times, with part of the group and with Black Sabbath, his voice here does not sound good, but hey they are all 60 fucking years old, don’t forget that. I like OZZY and went to 11 years of Ozzfest plus a few other shows of his so I a little about him and his abilities. He is a great, great entertainer, if you don’t think so, find another person who, at 60, gives it his ALL every show, at least every one I saw.
I never had more fun than I did at an Ozzfest show, getting hammered by water on a 80+ degree day, here in the state of Michigan, in the USA.

As their parents would probably say, get your shit together guys and play together, no one is getting any younger and you will regret all of the missed opportunities on the day you hear that, so and so is dead and the reunion is over.

    • Black Sabbath Fan says

This guy knows what he’s talking about.

    • Ed Sorton says

      SPOT ON!!!

I took my wife, whom had never seen Ozzy, to see him on the SCREAM tour…the date of the show was his 62ND B-DAY!! Played 2 hours and 20 minutes…..did I mention he was 62!!

He never missed a beat, sounded great, and left my wife claiming it was ‘THE MOST FUN’ she ever had at a show…..a true showman!

  28. It DOESN’T MATTER WHO IS DRUMING FOR THE LIVE SHOWS WHEN THEY START THE TOUR EVERYONE KNOWS THEIR WILL BE SHOWS CANCELLED DUE TO STRAIN ON OZZYS VOICE,OZZY CAN’T DO A FULL BLOWN TOUR ANYMORE,WITH THAT BEING SAID I MUCH RATHER SEE A STUDIO ALBUM FROM ORIGINAL LINE UP.

  29. Tommy Clufetos appears to be the perfect substitute for Bill Ward. Black Sabbath is not just Bill Ward. This band has stood the test of time even with 1 original member through the years if anyone recalls. So, it could be be better to rejoice and cherish the reunion of 3 original members of Sabbath along with a great drummer,Tommy Clufetos. He is now a formal member of Sabbath and we fans should welcome him. It would be far better to leave the Bill Ward story behind and cherish our Sabbath metal moments. Can’t wait for the album to be released, hope they get it out there soon.

  30. Sabbath has sold it soul, if they keep billing this as a ‘reunion’, not for Rock N’Roll, but, for Dollars and Euros. Sad end to a great band and legacy, time to shut it down guys, you’re embarrasing yourselves and slapping fans in the face.

  31. Robert Stanford Cam says

Vinny Appice, Bev bevan, Terry Chimes, Eric Singer are much better than the drummer who played the gigs. But he has already played with Ozzy and that’s unfortunately what really matters. I forgot to mention the name of Bob Rondinelli…

  32. What I see is that Tommy Clufetos is the best substitute for Bill Ward. He has the feel along with power and stamina. Waiting eagerly for the album to be released soon.
