Heaven & Hell: Live at Radio City Music Hall
Fans lucky enough to score tickets to Heaven And Hell's Radio City Music
Hall performance on March 30 -- the concert sold out in a matter of minutes
-- were fortunate witnesses to the glorious return of Ronnie James Dio, Tony
Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Onstage in the U.S. for the first
time in 15 years, the group let loose an onslaught of iconic metal
spotlighting Dio's memorable tenure with Black Sabbath.
LIVE FROM RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL captures the band bashing its way through
some of the Dio era's best including "Mob Rules," "Die Young," "Neon
Knights," "Children Of The Sea" and an epic 15-minute-plus version of
"Heaven And Hell." The quartet also performed a pair of new songs-the hit
single "The Devil Cried" and "Shadow Of The Wind." Both songs debuted
earlier this year on Black Sabbath: The Dio Years (Rhino/Warner Bros.
Records), the first comprehensive introduction to the Dio era's legacy. The
DVD will include the entire show shot in breathtaking HD as well as a tour
documentary and other bonus footage.
Following this spring's successful U.S. tour, Heaven And Hell is scheduled
to spend the summer playing concerts and festivals around the world. In
early September, the group will return to the U.S. for another round of
shows. Look for dates and a full lineup to be announced soon.
Together for a short but memorable time-a trio of studio albums, a classic
live album and a couple of tours-the second coming of Black Sabbath began in
1979 when founding members Iommi and Butler were joined by Dio. The former
singer of Elf (and later Rainbow and Dio) added his fiery, demonic howl to
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group's unmistakable sound. The Dio-led
lineup disbanded in 1983 and reunited in 1992 to record Dehumanizer and tour
before again going on hiatus.

Black Sabbath: Never Say Die Live
Recorded live in 1978,
Never Say Die is a defining moment in Black Sabbath’s history. This
unique concert is one of Sabbath’s final performances with the
original classic line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler
and Bill Ward. After a brief break from the band in 1977, frontman
Ozzy returns here in triumphant form performing classic songs
including "Never Say Die," "Black Sabbath," and "Paranoid."
There really aren't any
extras to speak of, but there are Dolby Digital 5.1 & Stereo
Surround Sound options on it. And of course, some killer
concert footage. This used to be available commercially on
video back in the early mid 80's as "A Decade of Black Sabbath:
1970-1978"
The track listing is below:
-
Symptom Of The Universe
-
War Pigs
-
Snowblind
- Never Say Die
- Black Sabbath

The Black Sabbath Story Volume 1
Black Sabbath pioneered true heavy metal, and a fascinating look
into the British band's turbulent history is covered on two
individual DVD and VHS releases, 'The Black Sabbath Story: Volume
One' and 'The Black Sabbath Story: Volume Two,' coming from
Sanctuary Records on September 24, 2002. Each DVD and VHS is sold
separately.
Each volume includes rare concert and television footage, music
videos, in-depth interviews and much more. These titles are being
released on DVD for the first time, and they include extras not
present on the original VHS versions. They have been reformatted for
DVD in the 16:9 letterbox ratio, and the audio has been remastered
for both Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo sound. Bonus features on both
titles include animated menus, an album gallery and band history.
'The Black Sabbath Story: Volume One' covers 1970 to 1978, when the
original lineup of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi,
bass guitarist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward turned rock music
upside down with its blistering originality. Albums like 'Black
Sabbath,' 'Paranoid,' 'Master of Reality' and 'Volume 4' are still
cited as metal milestones 30 years after their release by successive
generations of rock fans. Osbourne, Iommi, Butler and Ward addressed
the bleaker sides of life in their songs, and did so on a volcanic
musical foundation.
This 85-minute DVD includes 10 songs: "N.I.B.," "Paranoid," "War
Pigs," "Children of the Grave," "Snowblind," "Sabbath, Bloody
Sabbath," "Symptom of the Universe," "It's Alright," "Rock 'N Roll
Doctor" and "Never Say Die." One special feature is an in-depth
interview with Black Sabbath's original manager, Jim Simpson, who
describes the band's development.
The Black Sabbath Story:
Volume One' and 'The Black Sabbath Story: Volume Two' are valuable
historical documents that chronicle the career of one of the most innovative
rock bands in history.

for both Dolby Digital 5.1 and stereo sound. Bonus features on both
titles include animated menus, an album gallery and band history.
The Black Sabbath Story: Volume Two' picks up in 1978 prior to
Osbourne's departure and traces the strange periods of all-star,
revolving-door lineups up through 1992 during which Iommi was often the only
remaining original member. After Osbourne left, he was replaced by Rainbow
vocalist Ronnie James Dio for a brief, turbulent but artistically rewarding
period which yielded 1980's brilliant 'Heaven and Hell.' Other vocalists
included Deep Purple's Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes, and Tony Martin.
Short-lived drummers included Vinny Appice, Electric Light Orchestra's Bev
Bevan, the late Cozy Powell and future Kiss member Eric Singer. The DVD ends
with the reunion of Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice for 1992's 'Dehumanizer.'
The 10 songs on the 72-minute second volume are: "Hard Road," "Die
Young," "Neon Knights," "Trashed," "Zero the Hero," "No Stranger to
Love," "The Shining," "Headless Cross," "Feels Good to Me" and "TV
Crimes." A bonus interview with Black Sabbath expert Hugh Gilmour is
part of this DVD.

Black Sabbath: The Last Supper This DVD
is taken from concert footage in December 1997 when Black Sabbath did what
was billed as "The final concerts" in Birmingham, England. Of course,
no one believed it was truly the last.
Anyway, the concert is quite good - and it sounds phenomenal, if you have
a home theatre system with 5.1 Surround sound. There's a lot of
interview footage on this disc, too. Some of it is on top of the songs
being played, something a lot of folks complain about.
Personally, I like that, because let's face - how many times do we need
to hear Iron Man / Paranoid / War Pigs? As great as these songs are,
there's nothing "new" there. The fact that a different presentation
was available was something I liked. Check the disc out - it's
quite good.
(No, there is no version available that doesn't have the interview pieces
on top of the songs - I get asked that a lot).

Black Sabbath: The Best of MusikLaden Live
This DVD comprises what most people know as the "Beat Club" footage.
It's not very long, it's got only four songs on it, Iron Man, War Pigs,
Paranoid, & Blue Suede Shoes.
I suppose the novelty here is Blue Suede Shoes. That wasn't an
"official" release, it was something Sabbath was messing around with during
a sound check, and it got recorded.
(It isn't the greatest value - it's only got four songs on it, but there
is some novelty here, and for those that want everything it might be
worth a pickup).

Black Sabbath (The Movie) This DVD
doesn't have anything to do with the band at all - I'm just putting it here
as a link. The movie does however, have the distinction of being the
movie that named the band. Legend has it that Geezer Butler named the
band after seeing this movie on a marquee.
I've personally never seen it, so I can't comment on how good (or bad) it
is. If you want to read more about the movie, check out the IMDB
link for the movie
here.

Finally, there's a title called "Tony Iommi: Inside Black Sabbath" that
Amazon.com has available for purchase. I emailed
Tony's management team about it, and was told this:
"It is a poor quality interview, filmed in 1991 for a local UK TV station, not
intended to be issued as a home video/DVD. Because it is just a short interview
and to make it appear a better buy they have added old live footage from
previous Sabbath video's and 43 minutes of other bands." |

The Philadelphia footage was released on VHS back in the 80's under the

the complete concert. I should know, I was there at the time, and I
also owned the VHS back in the day. This new DVD also includes a 2005
interview with Ronnie Dio that runs about 25 minutes). The total
concert footage between the two shows is 100 minutes, and the version of Dio
that appears here is this:
- Ronnie James Dio - Vocals (who else?)
- Vinny Appice - Drums
- Jimmy Bain - Bass
- Vivian Campbell - Guitar

Dio: Sacred Heart "The DVD"
From Joe: I was living in Philadelphia when this was filmed, and I'm
actually in the video, although you'd never know it - I know where I
was standing at the time. :) This was an awesome
live show, the dragon, the warriors battling it out. Was one
of my all time favorite live concert experiences. Well
worth checking out. This is technically from the
"Intermission" tour, and not the Sacred Heart tour, but the same
exact set was used for both. If you're a Dio fan, it's worth
checking out, whether or not you're old enough to have seen this
show for yourself about 20 years ago or so.
Track Listing:
- Draco Ignis
- The King of Rock & Roll
- Time to Burn
- The Last in Line / Holy Diver
- Heaven & Hell
- Sacred Heart
- Rock & Roll Children
- Long Live Rock & Roll
- Man on the Silver Mountain
- Rock & Roll Children (reprise)

Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy Osbourne: Don't Blame Me
I don't actually own this disc - and I cannot recall what the
content of it is at the moment. When I get updated info, I'll
redo this page. Actually, I took this text from one of
the reviews on Amazon.com..
I just got this DVD and it is excellent. It does a great job
telling the story of Ozzy's life, from back when Ozzy, Bill Ward,
Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi formed "Earth" and their start as Black
Sabbath, how they broke up, up to where Ozzy is now. It focuses on
his music, but it also goes into his family life with his wife
Sharon and his three children, and Ozzy's late guitarist Randy
Rhoads. When I ordered this, originally had assumed that it was a
collection of his music videos, with some interviews and concert
footage as a bonus. Turns out I was wrong, as there's only one full
music video, which is No More Tears. But the rest of this video is
so good that I don't think that the lack of videos takes too much
away. It has interviews with Ozzy, Bill Ward, Alice Cooper, Sharon
Osbourne, and many other people, it has tons of concert footage, it
tells the stories of the bat and the dove, and a lot more than that.
For anyone who's an Ozzy fan I strongly recommend this.
