Subject: Technical Ecstasy Artwork

I don't know if you saw it or not, but two weeks ago I ran a piece on some
prints of the artwork for Technical Ecstasy that are available for sale. St
Paul's Art Gallery in Birmingham is selling prints of the Technical Ecstasy
artwork. These prints are signed by Tony Iommi and Storm Thorgerson. Mr
Thorgerson is well known as an album cover artist, having done such iconic
other cover art as Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (plus over a dozen
other Floyd covers), AC/DC's Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, a few Led
Zeppelin albums, Anthrax's Stomp 442, Bruce Dickinson's Skunkworks, Alan
Parsons.. I think you get the idea. The man is iconic in rock cover art.

The folks at St. Pauls approached me with an idea, and I thought it was
cool, so here it is. They want to offer you, the reader of this newsletter
a huge discount on purchasing a copy of the artwork. They wanted to do
this because they were eager to make sure the fans had a good opportunity
to purchase the artwork.

They are offering a œ350 discount to the first 40 people from this
newsletter who buy the artwork using the promo code TONY. After the first
40 are bought with this code, the price will revert back to the regular
price.

Here is a link you can use to go straight to the artwork on the St Paul's
Gallery Website.

Here's my full story with pictures of Tony Iommi & Storm signing copies of
the prints.

http://www.black-sabbath.com/news/2007/02/technical_ecstasy_art_for_sale.html

The folks at St Paul's are hoping that this will enable several Sabbath
fans to be able to get one of the pieces of art. If you were thinking of
doing this anyway, hopefully this discount will help you decide.

Subject: The old Sabbath sound

I have to disagree with statements about Dio era losing the classic Sabbath
sound. Technical Ecstasy lost the sound more than any other record did.
Heaven & Hell was "much" heavier. Bills drum sound was heavy & "OLD"
sounding.

Even Born Again was more the classic Sabbath sound then NSD, TE or even
side 2 of Sabotage. Side 1 was great though. Side 2 had too much syth, keys
& orchestration, ( intersting stuff, but hardly the brutal yer clever
riffery one gets on Paranoid ).

The classic sound really is heard on Paranoid, the 1st record, & certainly
the bass sound on Master of reality. Bass, drums & guitar in a beautiful
wall of sludge.

I agree to an extent later albums, Martin era, were a tad slicked up in the
production, but Cross Purposes had nice bass tone & some very good riffs.
Not quite the crunch & wallop of Paraniod, but certainly moreso then TE.

> Personally, I don't know why so many have criticised the mix of "Born
> Again"...it's dark, heavy and creepy - as Sabbath should be!

I really like this album too. It's dark and heavy allright, however compared
to the original mix it is a bit "muddy". I like both mixes.

Regarding the Heaven And Hell project: Let the old men play and fool around.
It is the time of reunions and I am looking forward to this. Now we're all
going to see Heaven And Hell and who knows? In two-three years it's perhaps
time to see "Headless Cross" (feat. Iommi, Martin, Nicholls, Rondinelli and
Murray). I like Black Sabbath. Every line-up has it's own sound and I really
can't compare them and tell which one is the best.

>[ Ed Note: I would be some serious money you'll never see Martin as the
> Sabbath vocalist again. ]

If that would happen Joe I would never believe anything again. Tony summed
up the last album as garbage. Of Corse it was.

[ Ed Note: Huh? ]

not sure if anyone cares, and this is importont to me.....i have seen ozzy,
ronnie and tony sing......no-one touches ronnie live! AND NOONE EVER WILL!
but saying that...tony martin is the balls and seeing him with sabbath in
hampton(hampton beach casino) with motorhead in the early 90's was a gift
from below. tony does every era with respect and justice. ozzy era sab is
the greatest recorded metal ever but live he is a third.
