This Issue's Lyric:
"There's a place just south of Witches' Valley
Where they say the wind won't blow
And they only speak in whispers of her name
There's a lady they say who feeds the darkness
It eats right from her hand
With a crying shout she'll search you out
And freeze you where you stand"

I would hope they film at least one of these shows to release as a DVD. It
can only serve to make them money, because this will be one amazing show, I
can only imagine. The stage set is awesome, the song list is awesome, and
my only regret is that I'll be unable to attend the show when it comes
through my area. But a live DVD is a sound business decision, at any rate.
[ Ed Note: Check my site's new page. DVD & CD due this fall. Word is that
they're filming the New York City gig for this, but there hasn't been any
"official" word from the band on that. ]

When it was first announced that this reunion was in the works I was hoping
that it would be presented in all it's glory, as it deserved to be
presented. I was hoping there was enough interest in the United States for
this, being the lackluster music scene we have now in the States kind of
made be a bit skeptical that this would be presented in a way that was
fitting and in big arenas.
From what I have seen and heard so far this tour will not dissapoint, and
the whole Heaven And Hell thing lives up to expectations. The new tune "The
Devil Cried" sounds great, right where Dehumanizer left off.
Looking forward to The Dio Years CD... and even more the tour which I hope
to see, ...plus you finally have a proper video/DVD of this lineup, though
we've had some cool unathorized recordings and the Black and Blue film.
However, to be teased with the Mob Rules Tour footage from Live Evil that
never got released this should be worth the wait... even better the band
plays ALL dio era and nothing else. I won't miss the Ozzy era tunes from
the set at all.
In addition, there will be a live album from a December 1981 show in London
on the Mob Rules tour, though a limited run. Hope to get my hands on one of
these.
The tour and reunion is really a dream come true for Dio era Sabbath fans.
To me one of the best things to happen in music since Judas Priest's
reunion with Rob Halford.
Nostalgia? Yeah maybe a bit. But who cares? I'm gonna love every minuute of
it.
I know that if there were more dates they'd be posted, but I'm curious as
to if the tour will have a second leg after these dates? I thought I read
there were going to be dates late in the summer in the USA, unless I am
wrong. Also, I'm looking for tickets to the Philadelphia show, which is
listed, but does not appear yet on Ticketmaster.

Hi Joe,
I was there last night too and what an awesome show. I saw this lineup
back in '82 on the Mob Rules tour in the same venue, the Pacific Coliseum.
Here they are 25 years later sounding even more powerful. I agree with all
the others: Ronnie's voice is as great, powerful and fresh as ever,
hitting all the highs just as easy as he did back then.
Tony's impeccable playing was a treat to hear as always. Geezer and Vinny
were in fine form too. Don't miss this concert if you have the fortune of
them playing in your area. The new songs are killers, very cool to hear
them live before they've even been released. Can't wait for the DVD later
this year!
Cheers,
Ed

I attended the 1st show in Vancouver BC. Amazing! The acoustics of the
place sucked but the boys were on! Opening track: After All The Dead.
Last track before encore Heaven and Hell. Encore Neon Knights. Surprise
tracks (to me at least) Voodoo, I. I can't remember the entire set list
but I'll try -
After All The Dead
Mob Rules
Sign of the Southern Cross
Falling Off The Edge of the World
Lost Children of the Sea
Computer God
Voodoo
I
The Devil Cried
2 other rocking new tracks
that's all I can remember. sorry. They were on fire. In the acoustis of
that place Geezer sounded particularly ominous. Very nice.
Down sounded great. Mostly 1st album stuff. Megadeth were plagued by an
awful sound system but when the sound system was fixed they were great.

Hey all,
I'm pretty excited at the idea of the H&H tour, it'll be worth the
investment of plane flights, hotels and taxis...
OK, to the business at hand:
Firstly, does anyone have or know where I could find photos of Sabbath in
the studio when they recorded their first album, or know where I could read
any accounts of their recording process for that album? I'm trying to
recreate the live room they used in order to try and capture a similar drum
sound.
And secondly, on the first album - can anyone confirm or deny the presence
of a horn section on Evil Woman? And also, who the hell are Weigand,
Weigand and Waggoner?!
Tata for now,
Chris.
[ Ed Note: There's an unreleased alternate version of Evil Woman with a
horn section on it. It was obviously dropped for release. ]

Hey Joe,
This is just a minor correction about the tour dates you have listed. The
May 10th show in philadelphia is at the wachovia spectrum, i dont think
there is a wachovia arena. I got Pit tickets to the phladelphia show, i'll
be sure to right a review as to how it goes even though we all know it will
be amazing. Love your site Joe, keep up the good work.

All!
Normally, I am not the complaining type of guy. I live my life without any
serious outburst of rage and when they have happened they usually last no
longer than a minute or so. Not that I am self-righteous but I am
impartial and always try to find solutions the pacifistic way... and I am
good at it.
Some might say that this behavior doesn't match a bloke like me - a
listener of Heavy Metal music. That's just how I am. The Heavy Metal thing
started out as a child, in the beginning of the 1970s. I remember a lot of
my parents records, amongst them some Black Sabbath records. When I grew
older I bought the records myself. The first Sabbath record I bought was
"Sabotage" in 1976, at the age of 8.
During the years Black Sabbath has become my gasoline. There hasn't been a
month during the last 30 years where not at least one lp/cd has been
played. I see the band as a musical institution; the givers of Heavy Metal
to world. They have changed a lot during the years and their changes in
some way seem to have fitted my personal development. Some of the albums
are better than others and some have bad productions but all in all I love
them all.
Back in very early 1981 I stumbled upon "Heaven And Hell" and bought it
right away. Had heard "Children Of The Sea" on the radio a couple of times
and really loved it. Later in 1981 I also bought "Mob Rules". At that time
I was really into HEAVY Metal. It hard to be slow and hard and "Mob Rules"
is that. For many years "Mob Rules" and "Heaven And Hell" remained the best
albums I had.
Around 1980 was the time I started going to concerts. My big hope was to
see Sabbath but they never came. Not until August 1983 when they played
Copenhagen. That was with Gillan. I went to see Dio in 1983 supported by
Waysted, however that wasn't Black Sabbath.
Back in 1991 rumors had it that they were back together again. The Wayne's
World soundtrack confirmed it and I bought Dehumanizer when I found it.
Although they were a bit older, and I really really liked the Tony Martin
albums, I thought that this was great. Don't think that "Dehumanizer" is
among their best albums but now was the chance of my seeing this great
line-up. Unfortunately they didn't play in Denmark and then suddenly
"Cross Purposes" was out.
I saw them play the Roskilde Festival in 1998. Actually, I bought a 4-day
ticket just to see Black Sabbath and threw in Paradise Lost, Seigmen,
Moonspell, Sisters of Mercy, Dimmu Borgir, Slayer and Rammstein as well.
Now when I discovered that they were to play again as Heaven And Hell,
which I think is a wonderful way to put some distance to expectations and
demands from fans and the music press, I knew that this is probably the
last time I have the chance of seeing this line-up. We - the guys and I -
talked about having a nostalgic week (playing all the metal bands from the
late 70s to mid 80s) before the concert. The thing is: It's not going to
happen. They are not playing Denmark. Not at all.
The disappointment is too big. Now I must react. I must react in the way I
seldom react in. It is so big that I have decided not to play them anymore
(as they remind me what I am NOT to experience). Three times they have
been together, three decades, and they (or the management or whoever) don't
bother to play/book one tiny little 30 minutes show somewhere in little
Denmark. I don't bother for Black Sabbath/Heaven And Hell (feat. Dio and
Appice).
Their heaven can go to hell!
END!
[ Ed Note: Is Denmark a real country?

Seriously - why is everyone
assuming we've seen all the dates? Do people really honestly think we've
seen all the dates the band is playing? Now they may not play there, but
on the flip side, they can't play everywhere in the world. But to assume
they're definitely not is a bit premature at this point, isn't it? ]

Well, I thought i would start out by sying I had a Kick ass time at the
concert, but I was highly disapointed that DOWN did not show up. Phils
vocals were thrashed so they were a no show. Megadeath ripped shit up,
sound was good, much better of a performance than the gigantour that i seen
a couple of years ago. And last but not least BLACK SABBATH, what a show.
From the crunching and smooth riffs of toni to the blury fingers of geezer
as he wailed on his bass, man that guy can play! Roni dio sounded
unbelievable. What a show!!! EDMONTON WAS ROCKIN LAST NIGHT!! Sorry no
pictures.
Thanx for your time.

Subject: Here is my review. Thanks Joe.
Just got back from the Heaven and Hell show and let me tell you it was an
experience of a lifetime. My ears are still ringing and my voice is gone,
but what a memory to have instilled for life.
I have seen a lot of shows lately but Tony, Ronnie, Geezer and Vinny set a
standard that is hard to measure up to. The energy level of the band was
great and the songs were tight.
Dio's voice was powerful and alive. Geezer and Vinny worked themselves to
the bone and Tony was mesmerizing.
I feel sorry for those that missed it because they lost their chance to see
these living legends work their magic. The stage itself was a sight to
behold with different song based themes running on it. It was icing on an
already perfect cake.
Also near the end Ronnie took a fan made banner and got the band to
autograph it onstage and then handed it back. It's nice to see real class
from these great musicians.
It put some life back in my soul. Thanks guys you inspire me.
Down did not play due to sickness and Dave from Megadeth seemed distant.
They played a quick set and then left.
Here is the set list from this once in a lifetime experience:
E5150
After All (The Dead)
The Mob Rules
Children of the Sea
Lady Evil
Ear In the Wall
I
The Sign of the Southern Cross
Voodoo
The Devil Cried
Drum Solo
Computer God
Falling Off the Edge of the World
Shadow of the Wind
Guitar Solo (Tony is the man!)
Die Young
Heaven & Hell
Encore
Lonely Is the Word
Neon Knights
