Subject: Rumors

I heard a few interesting rumors in the last few days or so, and wanted to
pass them on.

What I've read tells me that there's going to be a big cool tour in the
fall, that being Heaven & Hell will be touring with Judas Priest &
Motorhead. When I read about this, I immediately checked with band
management, and as usual, they didn't have anything to say about rumors,
but if this is true.. Oh man.. I saw Sabbath with Motorhead several times
in the mid 90's when Tony Martin was the frontman. I saw Priest a few times
in the 80's, and again on Ozzfest 2004. If this comes off, it's going to be
one heck of a tour! Where they'll play I haven't heard anything about, but
these things tend to come off in the US a lot.

I also heard rumors of some live dates during the summer, but I don't know
if it's the same rumor as the Motorhead/Priest one, a different one, or
just BS.

But it appears something is going on, and I have to imagine they're into
writing the new album by now. I haven't had much to say lately, but this
might be why.

Now I just need to get through my pile of emails and get caught up before
more live dates get announced.

UPDATE: I found this text over at Ronnie James Dio's site, which has some
detail on the writing, which is underway. Nice to see that.

---

If you've been wondering what Ronnie is up to, wonder, no longer: After
taking some well-deserved time off after last year's monster Heaven and
Hell world tour, Ronnie will be heading off to the UK in March to begin
writing the new Heaven and Hell record with the guys. Tony Iommi will then
travel to LA to reunite with Ronnie, Geezer and Vinny to continue working
on the record during April and May. Then, Ronnie will take a break during
the summer to play a few special up close and personal dates for the Dio
fans.

---

Looks interesting!

Subject: Re: Subject: Ozzy Causing Confusion Again

I suppose it would be too much for reliable info to actually come to light,
but...

I can't help but think that the (rightfully) much-maligned Sharon has
earned her unflattering reputation, and that her business dealings have a
huge amount to do with why or why not the Ozzy-fronted Sabbath exists at
any given time. Although I can do nothing but speculate as to the
machinations of Ozzy's camp, the way I imagine it is that Sharon's holding
her trump card (Ozzy) and has certain financial demands and that the other
three original members really couldn't be bothered to play the game
anymore. That is, I think she wants (for Ozzy or for her kids or herself
or whatever) to have the lion's share of the proceeds (just like Gene and
Paul got on the KISS "reunion" tour, playing a flat fee to Ace and Peter
who eventually walked rather than live with the unequitable split). With
H&H, there's no involvement with that whole camp, everything is less
business and more 'band' per se...

It's truly a shame, as I thought "Scary Dreams" was the best Sabbath track
in many years. It had been said that there was rehearsal and/or
pre-production material committed to tape that was rather sizeable...
Clearly, things were never fully worked out, and when the business-end of
things fell through, the compositions languished. Maybe there's not much,
but at the very least, there was "Scary Dreams."

I want a new album, but I genuinely don't care if it's with Ozzy or not.
His albums have been nothing for me since Ultimate Sin, I'm really soured
on the whole Ozzy thing.

So for Ozzy to say that it's the other guys saying "its on" and "it's off,"
I call bullshit - It WOULD have been on, but Ozzy (and when I say Ozzy I
mean Sharon) was too busy raking in the cash with his solo jaunts and
famously paying nothing to Ozzfest bands or even his own players to bother
with Sabbath - Now that they've gone on without him, it's sour grapes???
Good grief.

Again, this is all speculation on my part, so if there's any opposing
information, please point me in the right direction!

Very best,
PAULIE

over 3500 readers? That's great. Maybe everyone is just content with H & H
right now, and do not have much to say? Here are my thoughts on a new
release from Black Sabbath with Ozzy. I'd buy it, but would be afraid of
it sucking. Ok, not "sucking", but I mean not holding up to my own
expectations. I personally think it's never gonna happen. If I'm wrong -
great. I guess the best way to look at it is this. If they DO put out a
new release, and it's not very good, - well, at least they tried.

Thanks for the list Joe, even if it's just one entry. It's good to see
you're still keeping up with something you love.

Subject: New Dio Years MVI
From: Eric Goldberg <egoldberg@hubgroup.com>

I picked up the new Dio Years MVI, partially because I just wanted the Neon
Knights and Die Young videos which were shown as part of the VH1 Hangin'
With H&H show but were not part of the DVD when it was released with the
original Dio Years CD. When I try to register the MVI disc, it shows I
have a good connection, and I added the email address to my address book to
make sure the incoming email was not blocked, but I still have not received
the email so I can register the disc and get the extras. Is anyone else
having trouble registering the MVI disc on line? Does anyone have any
suggestions how to resolve this?

Thanks,
Eric

Subject: The original 4 40th REUNION ?
Date: Wed, 26 Mar 2008 20:21:32 -0400

Just read the most recent post about the 40 year reunion . Ozzy says it's
the other guys who call him and say it's off ? I don't know ? I hear it's
Ozzy that changes his mind and Sharon changes Ozzy's mind . I think it's
both= sides doing something or saying something . Granted the stuff Tony is
doing solo with whomever is kick ass and the stuff Geezer is doing solo is
kick ass and the same for Bill and the Heaven and Hell thing too is going
good , but I say that the original 4 need to get together and get really
serious here on some new material and a tour . I mean are we going to be
hearing the songs "SCARY DREAMS" played only live and the 2 studio ones
"PSYCO MAN" & "SELLING MY SOUL" from now and forever or are we going to get
some new stuff here hopefully sometime soon ?

OZZY , BILL , TONY & GEEZER , we all want and need to hear soem new stuff
from you guys soon , it just isn't Sabbath without the original 4 and you
all know it ! Would you please get all the differences (if any) and any
other little things ironed out and get back to the basics , back to the
band that made real music and give US the fans some new material ? I
respect and love all the solo material that Ozzy and Tony and Bill and
Geezer have all done , but WE all would love some NEW material form the
original 4 .

[ Ed Note: I wouldn't hold your breath. I think the guys got tired of
waiting for Ozzy, tell you the truth. ]

Subject: Spinal Tap reference on Sab website

Hello -
First off all, I want to commend you on your excellent Black Sabbath
website - I've just spent the last 6 hours or so perusing it (while
exploring other related or linked sites as well). Damn, it is incredibly
thorough, very informative and well organized!

...Especially the timeline page, which has to be the most complete overview
of Sab history (and the entire, non-Ozzy history), anywhere - congrats and
thanks for all your efforts from a fan like myself.

I did notice that you frequently asked for contributions & corrections, so
I thought I may take this opportunity to pass this on to you, for whatever
it's worth.

Over the years it's been widely reported about Spinal Tap's Stonehenge bit
being influenced by the Born Again tour... which I've always accepted,
being both a Sab fan (who saw that Gillan tour in Cleveland, my first Sab
show) and a musician. HOWEVER, (he states importantly, lol), today, in my
web-browsing (following a quest for info that I had based on my newly
received Ian Gillan DVD that I am going to watch after this), I came across
the Wikipedia article on Born Again and This Is Spinal Tap... and this
statement:

"The film may have inspired the real-life band, as the Stonehenge sequence
appeared in a 1982 20-minute demo of the film. Led Zeppelin had also had a
Stonehenge stage theme in the final US concerts held in Oakland, California
in July 1977, so the sequence in the film may have been a reference to
that."

There was also a credited link, on one of those pages to a Spinal Tap page
that also seems to corroborate the 'late 1982 to 1983' filming of the
movie. From star Michael McKean (extracted from This Is Spinal Tap, the
Official Companion, edited by Karl French), found at
http://books.guardian.co.uk/extracts/story/0,,371343,00.html We began
writing, casting and crewing in the spring of 1982.... Peter Smokler's
camera rolled late in that year. Rob edited the film over the next year,
and the film was released in March of 1984.

IF the Spinal Tap Stonehenge sequence was in the 1982 demo, and then filmed
late 82, assuming it wrapped early 83, then edited 'over that year'... then
the whole 'Sab influence the Tap' belief may be erroneous! (Including your
factoid on the Born Again page). Could this be the de-bunking of a very
widely & generally-accepted myth?!?!

I have tried to find more info (just at this sitting, mind you) on the web
about the actual filming/production dates of Spinal Tap, and so far have
only found that one reference. Curious, eh?

So there ya go - I'll leave it up to you to take this any further.. now
that I've finally got that bit out of my system (and at least have it
written out for future reference), I'm gonna pour a drink and watch the
Gillan documentary! Once again, great job with the site - as someone who
got to see the Glenn Hughes '86 Cleveland show (he sounded a bit rough &
looked uncomfortable but I don't remember it being horrid, lol), I commend
you!

Sincerely,
Eric "Eroc" Sosinski
