[ Ed Note: This is an email given to me from Bill Ward about the
anniversary of Cozy Powell's death a couple of weeks ago. ]

H! Everyone.

Thanks, Joe, for reminding us it's been ten years since Cozy died. I think
about him from time to time. I've always been grateful that our last phone
conversation ended on a high note. I felt we were both sincere with each
other, sharing mutual respect when touching on our individual histories in
Hard Rock/Metal.

Over the years, death has sometimes come quickly to old friends, and I've
felt the pain and dilemma of not returning a phone call as I would have
liked to, but didn't; not being able to say a proper good-bye in life;
being upset, or undone, or unresolved from the last conversation, then
feeling the loss of that end. With Cozy, I felt we had the perfect ending
conversation. We talked from the heart. In hindsight, our conversation
seems gift-like, fitting perfectly into the great order of things. Cozy
died about ten days after he and I spoke, maybe sooner, I'm not sure.

OK. Drum students - listen to this man. Check out the band Rainbow.
Listen to "Stargazer." Cozy is a master. Listen to the top of the song -
that's Cozy Powell playing. Discover this giant of Rock drumming. He
lives forever on records and in our hearts.

Thanks, Coze - nice work.

ALRIGHT!

Heaven and Hell with Motorhead!!! I love this rumor. Judas Priest, I saw
them at ozzfest years ago. Brought back some ol memories but I could live
with out them. JUST MAKE SURE Motorhead comes along with Heaven and Hell.
That will rock.

Also, I kept my promise and spent almost $900 bucks to party right at 2
Heaven and hell shows last year. I will shoot for the $1500.00 mark this
year smile Going though tight times in NE Indiana. If anyone here wants to
help a brother just send me an email. I have also recently received my
edition of the box set and pictures of the Heaven and Hell tour at Radio
City NY. Its Heavy Metal TITS!! It's a damn shame the bands or technology
couldn't offer us cool things like this along time ago. Rock on brothers
and sisters, freedom and magic to everyone!

I've always just been checkin out the emails from you. I appreciate the
reading,, but I'm not good at writing. All I can say is that ,,when they
all were gathering at Bethel, NY, I was discovering Sabbath,,and brought it
on to all my old hippy friends. When I heard "War Pigs" for the 1st time I
was stuck on them guys. So now even tho metal has gone so hi-tech. Black
Sabbath is the true nature of what metal is today. I appreciate all your
work,,,and sorry that I dont comment.

Joe,

That tour mate. Heaven and Hell supported by Priest and Motorhead. That's a
tour to dream of. Love the list by the way. Have received for years and
never responded once, but it's great. Glad you managed to keep it going.
Really look forward to it.

I love all the Sabbath line ups and remain a big fan of Tony Martin. He was
so underrated. I totally agree with the view of Ozzy's involvement being
dictated by Sharon. It would be good to see an original Sabbath reunion for
the 40 year mark, but to be honest I can live without it if the tour you
mentioned goes ahead. I love Rob Halford. Last saw him at the Albert Hall
London England in 2006. He reckoned it was the first time a British heavy
metal band had ever played the Albert Hall and I reckon my 7 year old son
was the youngest person there. The first thing he saw as he peeked through
a crack in the doors was Gillan performing Black night. That's got to be a
childhood memory to affect someone's whole life!

I recently played some friends the Heaven and Hell LP on vinyl and I
believe it's the only way to truly appreciate it. Butler's bass just falls
into every old pit and groove in the record. Dio is still an amazing
performer. We saw Heaven and Hell at Wembley in November 2007 and it was a
damn good gig.

Like I said thanks for keeping this posting going. I look forward to seeing
the lyric you quote at the start of each mailing. I love to hear from other
fans and it seems I am not alone in liking the various line ups. Sabbath
are a big part of my life. Keep going mate. You're doing great.

Best wishes to the family.

Cheers,
Andy

Greetings fellow fans of Sabbath

First up, my personal thanks to Joe for maintaining this list and his
website through what has obviously been a trying time in his and his
family's life. My thoughts go out to you.

Now, to all the Sharon haters. This list becomes something of a "blame
Sharon for the war in Darfur" opinion piece sometimes, and as much as a I
acknowledge and recognise her influence in the ongoing saga of the Original
4 getting together to record a new album, you have to remember (or go and
research) her role in Ozzy's life post his sacking from Sabbath. Sharon is
Ozzy's wife and his manager. For all we know she may not even like Black
Sabbath's music. Her interest, professionally and personally, is to
protect the interests of her husband and number one client, Ozzy. Ozzy is
a grown man, and for all the stuttering and shuffling we see on The
Osbournes, I bet there's still enough shrewdness in his drug adled brain
that understands that Sharon knows whats best for him. Remember that she
picked up a drug-fucked, broke musician who had been sacked from Black
Sabbath, then survived his abuse, and despite his head biting antics got
him record deals that saw two fantastic solo albums, (and a handful of okay
ones) and turned her into a hot property music promoter and manager.

On the other side of the fence, Tony, Bill and Geezer all have their own
management teams too, all of which will be giving their clients advice that
is in their interests. We, the fans, will never know who ultimately said
what to who and started this tour and stopped that album being made, but we
all need to realise that with property as big as Black Sabbath, there are a
hell of a lot of business decisions to make and therefore a hell of a lot
of people involved who want their cut.

Ozzy is, ultimately, the one who makes the decision on his own behalf,
taking on board the advice of those he trusts. Sharon saved his life by
sticking by him when no one else did in the early 80's. That's over 25
years ago and represents a longer marriage that most in Tinseltown, and a
damned good reason to trust her advice.

So no, I don't like the fact that the Reunion officially started in 1996
hasn't brought out anything other than 3 new songs, and yes I saw HandH
live in Melbourne Australia, and yes I'd love to see the original 4
downunder, but I'm old enough to realise that it's not as simple as the
four sitting down in their local pub and saying, "yeah, let's record an
album". And I'm old enough to know that you can't blame just one person
for that state of affairs.

But to Sharon I say, could you let him do 1 more album with the
Sabs?????????? Pleeeeaaassseeeee?

cheers

horns

"it just isn't Sabbath without the original 4 and you all know it!"

Wow... you clearly do not represent the majority of sabbath fans. Tony
Iommi him self said that he got sick of playing "Paranoid", in reference to
the ozzfest set which was the same old songs over and over. I think we are
all tired of the classic line up. The DIO years line up from Mob Rules is
clearly the greatest Sabbath line up. And the fact that the Heaven and Hell
tour was so successful clearly proves it. Thanks Joe.

Firstly, thanks Joe for the heads up about Cozy Powell's anniversary. My
first memory of knowing about this shithot drummer was through VH1's Brian
May semi-unplugged sessions and where Brian was talking about Cozy. Cozy
was one of the reasons I wanted to hear the first Sabbath albums I got my
hands on, Headless Cross and Tyr, and I was impressed by the power behind
the songs, which I found to be an almost unbeatable blend of talents from
all involved in those line-ups. Cozy was one of those. One of my favourite
songs is 'Ressurection' by Brian May and his drumming through it always
leaves me thinking 'hell yeah...that's Rock 'n' Roll'.

Secondly, before I talk tosh about something I don't get the gist of...I've
no idea what's happening with the official line-up of Black Sabbath. From
what I understand Ozzy does and doesn't want to do anything, Tony and
Geezer do and don't want to, Bill's put down his drumsticks to scratch his
head in confusion (much like the rest of us)...but does it really matter?
We've got Heaven and Hell ("..A Black Sabbath line-up by any other name
still rocks as hard.." - Billy Shakespeare, if he was born in the last
century) and a promise of a new album from the Mob Rules line-up is good
enough for me. Judging by how long it's taken for the original four to get
the ball rolling I'm not fussed anymore. If the chemistry isn't there, then
fair enough. If Tony, the final word on Black Sabbath, the man who IS Black
Sabbath finds greater inspiration working with Glenn Hughes and Ronnie
James Dio than the rest of the official Sabs, then fine. Same goes for
Geezer and his projects. Same for Bill. Same for Ozzy. I'd rather have
great music from several overlapping Sabbath-related sources than have the
guys trying to force something to fit for a new Black Sabbath album. The
best Black Sabbath albums, like the best albums by anyone, have been
organic and natural, not forced.

Hi all.

Am I the only Black Sabbath fan who, upon hearing in the mid 90s that Ozzy
was back with Sabbath, said (out loud, mind you), "Oh bugger - it was going
so well, too."

The thing is, once Ozzy had left, it was sixteen years before he rejoined,
and I'd quite got used to the idea that the boys had moved on. Tony the Cat
had taken over after Gillan and his replacement were long gone, a decent
reunion of the Dio line up had taken place, and Tony the Cat had done
another couple of studio outings and a good live recording. I didn't want
Ozzy back. If anyone is really honest, he didn't (and still doesn't)
measure up vocally to any of the other singers with Sabbath, and that
includes Ian Gillan (who reckons he was the worst vocalist the band ever
had). If you want any proof of this, listen to Live Evil and the Live Cross
Purposes albums, as well as the Gillan fronted bootleg Born In Hell - the
singers on these can do Ozzy era songs with no problems, but I for one
don't think for a moment that Ozzy could even attempt most of the stuff
recorded with any of the other vocalists.

I still don't want Ozzy back. I much prefer the Dio line up - it's just a
shame that Bill Ward couldn't overcome his reservations and work with the
band again. I was devastated when the Dio line up parted in 1983, and I'd
probably be a bit miffed if they broke up again, so why would I want Ozzy
back in the band. He's done a great new comeback album, "Black Rain", and
H&H are doing their new Album. Everyone who should be recording and doing
well, is doing just that. There's a rainbow in the Sabbath sky, all sounds
great and all's right with the world.

Who am I to demand unnecessary reunions?

Just my ten cents.

Alan.
