Subject: New Tour and Black Box II announced

Today brings a major announcement from band management. I was just emailed
a press release which folks will find very interesting. The entire press
release is listed below, but I'll get to the bullet points of the thing
here:

Dates as to when these shows tickets' will go on sale are in the full press
release further down the page. The other bands on the tour besides Black
Sabbath er, Heaven & Hell are Judas Priest, Motorhead, & Testament. I've
seen Motorhead with Black Sabbath a few times in the past on the Cross
Purposes & Forbidden tours. Judas Priest will have a new album out, as will
Testament, and Heaven & Hell's new album I don't think will be out then,
but should be well underway. Could we see a new track during these dates?
We'll find out.

BLACK BOX II ANNOUNCED

When Black Box was released in 2004, one of the things not mentioned then
was "what about remastering all the other Sabbath albums?" Well, today
(part of) that has been announced. First off, I must state that this is NOT
called Black Box II. That's my own name. This is called "The Rules of
Hell".

I have already asked a few questions of Band management regarding this box
set, when I get some answers, I'll report back. What I've asked is this:

1. Is this a new remastering session, or is it the same sessions that
produced the versions used on the Dio Years?

2. Anything in the way of extras, or is it just the albums like it was in
Black Box?

3. Will there be Geezer (or Ronnie as the case may be) approved lyrics
again like there were in Black Box?

4. Will the albums be made available on their own, or only as part of this
box set?

Again, I do not know the answers to these questions - yet. When I find out,
I'll report back. This is very cool, as the Dio era albums need an upgrade.
I'm hopeful about the extras, because there are more tracks sitting around
than what were on the actual albums, so hopefully some of that stuff can be
released, too. Here is the official text regarding this set:

Heaven & Hell will be supporting the release of `The Rules Of Hell' a
five-CD boxed set available on July 22nd from Rhino Records which features
re-mastered versions of all four Dio-era Black Sabbath albums (`Heaven and
Hell,' `Mob Rules,' `Live Evil,' and `Dehumanizer') in a deluxe package
with new liner notes.

A personal note: That leaves "Black Box 3: The Everything else set". Bring
that on too, guys!

JUDAS PRIEST MP3 AVAILABLE:

While not directly Sabbath related, the same press release has announced
that you can download for free an MP3 from the new Judas Priest album,
Nostradamus here.

There's also a cool interview over at Billboard.com with Rob Halford
talking about the tour and Judas Priest's new album. Check that out here.

(Thanks Blabbermouth)

This is all very exciting news, and I really need to get off my duff and
caught up with old emails and submissions before a new tour starts!

If you want to read the official press release, it is available on my
website here:

Definitely you're not. Actually, the very first Black Sabbath I had ever
heard was "Headless Cross". I vaguely knew (this is 1989) that Ronnie James
Dio was a former singer, because I had an early '80s poster book from Japan
someone gave to me, that had a bunch of Sabbath shots and all of them had
Dio in it, but I saw "Headless Cross" on MTV, and the band's guest
appearance on Headbanger's Ball (Cozy and Tony) and really liked them. Then
I saw some Ozzy videos and asked "How come this guy keeps running around
playing Black Sabbath songs instead of playing his own" and someone told me
that actually he was one of the original Black Sabbath members and of
course most people told me all the new guys were "pretenders to the throne"
but to me, when someone says "Black Sabbath", the band that shows up first
in my mind is Martin / Iommi / Nichols / Murray / Powell. And in the mid
'90s, "Cross Purposes" was always in rotation on my disc changer. It took
me a long time to like "Forbidden" (now I like it a lot, except for the
production and the first song).

> and that includes Ian Gillan (who reckons he was the worst vocalist
> the band ever had).

I wish Ian Gillan's time in the band weren't so overlooked. "Born Again" is
in my top 5 fave Sabbath records. I am annoyed that when Gillan sang
"Heaven And Hell", he didn't include the part from "They say that life's a
carousel..." and onwards. I'd love to have heard him sing it. On the other
hand, when he sings "Rock 'N' Roll Doctor", the way he sings it, I'm almost
expecting him to suddenly shift to "Talkin' 'bout my Wheels Of Steel..." at
the end. I never liked "Rock 'N' Roll Doctor" until I heard Gillan sing it.

I'm not a huge Ozzy fan to begin with. I do wish that Tony Iommi and Glenn
Hughes can do more stuff together. I listen to "Fused" a lot. And I'm
listening to Tony Martin's non-Sabbath projects all the time. You guys ever
see him perform "Witches" at Candlemass's 20th's anniversary? I like his
version much more than the Messiah Marcolin version. I'm glad that Robert
Lowe is the new Candlemass singer (though I'm disappointed that Messiah
left to begin with), but it would have been cool if Tony Martin had joined
up.

> There's a rainbow in the Sabbath sky, all sounds
> great and all's right with the world.

Well, actually, there would be a Rainbow in the Sabbath sky if Don Airey
were back on keyboards, Bobby Rondinelli were back on drums and Bob Daisley
were back on bass. But that would be a Sabbath reunion of personnel who
were never in the band (Black Sabbath, that is) at the same time together.
I think they were in Rainbow together at the same time, though?

> Just my ten cents.

One thing that to me would make the 2008 tour absolutely perfect to me
would be if Black Sabbath did a Judas Priest and Motorhead cover, if Judas
Priest did a Black Sabbath and Motorhead cover, and Motorhead did a Judas
Priest and Black Sabbath cover. Oh yes, I'm very happy that Testament's
also in the lineup. Testament's "The New Order" was one of the very first
rock music albums I'd ever heard, before I ever heard any records by
Sabbath, Priest, or Motorhead.

Subject: Hear 'N Aid Project
From: "Christopher West" <christopherwest1911@gmail.com>

Hello all,

I'd like to thank Joe for maintaining this list. When I check my email,
it's usually the first message I check. To everyone who has contributed,
thanks. Cozy Powell is still my favorite drummer besides Vinnie Appice. I
guess we're all starting to get old. All of the legends of metal are
starting to go to the great metal concert in the sky.

Back in 1985, there was a project headed by RJD called Hear N' Aid. If you
search Youtube, you can find the video there. It's a great song. What else
would you expect? Dio had a hand in it. Anyway, in the Tampa Bay area,
there are several independent record shops that specialize in the metal
genre. NO ONE can get the CD for me. They claim it's not in print. I've
Googled it. Some sources say it's available, some say it's not. If a
website says it is available, it's ALWAYS out of stock. I have good, solid
evidence for both cases. If there is anyone out there who knows where I can
buy it, or where it's available, or at least just a lead where I might want
to look, drop me a line.

Anyone who is a Sabbath fan from the Dio era (now known as Heaven and Hell)
will undoubtedly love this song and video. It's got all the metal pioneers
on it: Halford, Dio, Yngwie, Appice...you name it. Great, great song. Now,
where the hell can I find it? I've been looking literally for years.

have my pre-recorded Hear N Aid cassette at home. smile ]
