This Issue's Lyric:

As the misty morning rolls away to die
Reaching for the stars, we blind the sky"

Subject: Rules of Hell Box Set Update

A couple of days ago I posted the news that there will be a box set based
on the four Dio era Black Sabbath releases. I posed some questions of band
management regarding some details on the set, and I can now bring you an
update based on what I found out.

Individual Releases: The albums will likely eventually be released on their
own, but no plans yet, and even that's not for sure. For now you should
consider them part of the box set only.

Remastering: This is not the same remastering sessions that produced last
year's "The Dio Years" releases. This is a totally new remastering session
from the Dio Years sessions.

Five Discs: The press release stated that there would be five discs in this
release. The five discs will be Heaven & Hell, The Mob Rules, Dehumanizer,
& Live Evil. Live Evil will be two discs as it was when it was originally
released way back when, so that's where we get the fifth disc.

Extra Tracks: There are no extra tracks here, the albums are as they were
originally released. I specifically asked about the alternate version of
Mob Rules (Heavy Metal soundtrack), and the alternate version of Letters to
Earth (TV Crimes Single). Was told they're not being included. Less clear
are the two versions of Time Machine. The 1992 version released in the US
had two versions (standard & Wayne's World). The WW version was not on
versions outside of the US. Since this is being released by Warner/Rhino,
it's likely the one on here will have both, but I don't know that for sure
at this time.

I was told the "new" extras will be extensive liner notes and things along
those lines. I also do not know at this time what the packaging will look
like. One of the emails I got said that had yet to be completed, so I doubt
there's full decisions made on this stuff yet. Once I get some artwork and
further details, I'll be sure to update straight away.

Joe,

Thanks for the great news about this tour and for keeping us so well
informed as to any updates. I can't wait to see H&H again.

From the press release, it seems like Judas Priest will be headlining. Is
there anything definitive to confirm the order the bands will play?

Thanks again,
Eric Goldberg

[ Ed Note: I haven't seen anything about that, no. Something else I just
thought of is whether the box set is going out under the name Black
Sabbath or Heaven & Hell. Don't know the answer to that. As for the
live band order, it wouldn't surprise me if they rotate that between
Sabbath & Priest. But that's a guess. I don't have any info on that. ]

It's about time horns

At first I was thinking "Awesome, a bonus disc!" and then I remembered that
Live eviL is sometimes two discs. D'oh.

> I never liked "Rock 'N' Roll Doctor" until I heard Gillan sing it.

You're not the only one. He also shone a new light on the oft overplayed
"Black Sabbath"...and he totally rocked out Supernaut. Not to say it wasn't
good before, but I like it way more with that wah pedal all over it.

Thanks from me too --- it is very, very good to have a well-moderated,
well-maintained mailing list in the today's world of forums, blogs and
whatnot.

The situation with Hear 'N Aid CD is this: It is no longer in print. It has
never been released on CD outside Japan, and it has now been out of print
over there for a year or so. However, there are copies of this being sold
on Ebay all the time, for example at this very moment there are two of
these on Ebay:

Hope this helps,

So the question is who is headlining Judas Priest or Heaven And Hell? I
mean who is going to be the last band on the bill?

> BLACK BOX II ANNOUNCED
> A personal note: That leaves "Black Box 3: The Everything else set". Bring
> that on too, guys!

And what's going to be on that box? Let's see. Born Again, Seventh Star and
Eternal Idol. The rest of the catalogue with Tony Martin was on IRS labels
which is not owned by Rhino.

Born Again - yeah, it would be nice if Rhino remasters it.

Seventh Star was released at the same time CD format was introduced. So
Seventh Star released on vinyl, CD and cassette at the same time. But it
was never released on CD by Warner Bros in America. So yeah, it would be
nice if they remastered it.

Eternal Idol was primarily released on CD format and it is fully digital
recording. Why would anyone bother to remaster it if it's fully available
as is.

[ Ed Note: Why'd they bother to remaster it in 1996 then? But the 96
remasters weren't from the Warner masters, they were from a different set
of masters. ]

I have a question about Disturbing the Priest lyrics. Where does the first
verse of lyrics come from. Is it some sort of prayer, psalm? The reason I
am asking is 'cause the band Grave Digger has similar lyrics, but it is not
Black Sabbath cover. Not even close.

Thanks.
