Holy shit! New Heaven & Hell album in 2008!

This is a complete 100% about face from everything I've been told. Since this project was started, I've been told not to expect anything past the tour, which ends in November. It was all about Dio going to do a new Magica album, etc, etc, etc... Well, spin my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska - it looks like we're getting a new Black Sabbath Heaven & Hell album in 2008, from Dio / Iommi / Butler / Appice. Normally I wouldn't update sites on my anniversary, but this news was too hot to hold back. :)

I was just sent this press release and was told to post it - it will go out in England on Monday.

For Immediate Release -

There's been much speculation of a forthcoming Black Sabbath reunion with the original line-up with Ozzy Osbourne at the helm, but founding member Geezer Butler has adamantly denied such rumors.

"Heaven and Hell are currently in discussions with various record labels about recording a brand new studio album in 2008," says Butler.

Black Sabbath's recent incarnation as Heaven & Hell- fronted by Ronnie James Dio on lead vocals, sees the seminal heavy metal band undertaking a major UK arena tour this November. The band's moniker is taken after Black Sabbath's critically acclaimed 1980 studio album "Heaven and Hell" featuring the title track and the breakout hit "Neon Nights". Ronnie James Dio replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath in 1980 and the band went on to release four albums including 1980's "Heaven & Hell", 1981's "Mob Rules", and the 1982 live album "Live Evil", as well as the highly under rated "Dehumanizer" in June 1992.

Legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (Dio, Black Sabbath, Rainbow) shares the spotlight on lead vocals, original Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, plus drummer Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath) as they embark on a major 11-date UK arena tour starting at Newcastle Metro Arena on Sunday 4th November.

The "Heaven and Hell" UK tour continues at the Glasgow SECC (Nov 6), Sheffield Arena (Nov 7), Manchester MEN Arena (Nov 9), London Wembley Arena (Nov 10), Brighton Centre (Nov 11), Birmingham NEC (Nov 13), Cardiff Arena (Nov 14), Nottingham Arena (Nov 15), Plymouth Pavilions (Nov 17), Bournemouth BIC (Nov 18).

The Dio Years UK Tour Edition

It was brought to my attention that a "new release" is coming in the UK on November 5th. It's "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years - UK Tour Edition". This was the first I had heard of it, so I did some investigating, and a couple of emails to band management later, I have some details to pass on:

As the name suggests, this is a special re-release to coincide with the dates at the end of the 2007 Heaven & Hell Tour that take place in the UK. This will be a two disc release. The first disc is the same as the existing disc that was released back in April. The second disc has four live tracks. These tracks are:

  • Neon Knights (Live)
  • The Mob Rules (Live)
  • Children of the Grave (Live)
  • Voodoo (Live)

The live tracks were taken from the limited edition "Live at Hammersmith" release from Rhino Handmade back in May.

I was told that the booklet is pretty much the same as the original (except for the credits and whatnot added because of the second disc).

This is a UK only release, and is available for pre-order now from the Amazon UK store via this link.

Rumours about the UK Shows

I got this via an email from a Sabbath fan earlier this morning. It was regarding rumours of the Heaven & Hell set list for the UK dates. It said:

The PR agents for the Heaven & Hell UK tour are being told by the concert promoters (Live Nation) that H&H will be playing songs on the tour from the entire Sabbath catalogue, including Ozzy era songs. You know and I know this is nonsense, but they're only going on what the promoters are telling them.

So I forwarded off some inquires regarding this asking if the bits about "all eras" was crap, and as I expected, this was bogus. Band management response:

Correct, crap.

Those of you who were hearing rumors of other era tracks are being misled apparently.

The tour is almost over

If you haven't noticed, the tour is almost over. By my count there are just 15 dates left. Four in Japan, one in Singapore, and then 10 around the UK. The final date of the tour is November 18th in Bournemouth. I know I've been getting many emails all during the tour, and during my time off the last month or so about more dates, stuff into 2008, etc... But I'd like to point out that I've been telling people not to expect too much - and not to get your hopes up all during the reunion. It was schedule to run through about November or so, and that's what's happening. If you want some backup for this besides just my word, check out what Vinny Appice had to say on his own website about the end of the tour:

The US tour has ended. Our thanks go out to Alice Cooper, Queensrÿche and to all the fans who came out and spent the evenings with us!! This so far has been an amazing world tour! Mid Oct we move on to Japan for 4 shows and Singapore for 1 show. The UK is our final leg of the tour with Iced Earth and Lamb Of God on the bill. It's great to end the tour where the roots of Black Sabbath started and Heavy Metal was born.

The dates that were rumored to be happening in Germany at the end of the month appear to be not happening now. As far as I know folks, - this is it. Once the Bournemouth gig happens, it's done. Dio goes back to do more Magica, and who knows what Tony & Geezer will do. There's rumours all over the place about Sabbath again in 2008, but nothing official has happened there, just a few statements from Sharon Osbourne's office, and a more recent remark from Ozzy saying that he'd be headling Ozzfest 2008. Assuming that's true, if there is Sabbath in 2008, one would think it'd be Ozzfest again. Yawn.

New album with Dio? Doubt it. More tour dates with Dio? Nothing planned. What happens after the Bournemouth gig? Who knows, but probably nothing for awhile.

Japanese Tour Dates

As we get close to the end of the Heaven & Hell tour later this year, I wanted to say a couple of things. Thanks to all who have sent in reviews, pictures, etc. As you've noticed I'm horribly behind in putting these things up, but if you send it to me, I'll get it up once I get caught up, so don't let my inactivity lately deter you. I still want all submissions.

Second, I was sent an email this morning with the Japanese dates. They are:

October 20th - Tokyo - Loud Park
October 22nd - Tokyo - Forum
October 23rd - Osaka - Loud Park
October 25th - Nagoya - Civic Auditorium
October 27th - Singapore - Fort Canning Park

Yeah, I'm still here

I'm still here. I've been inactive lately. Had a lot going on in real life, the job's been a bit busier, and the site has suffered. You get behind, the pile gets bigger, and it all snowballs. I'll be back, I just don't know when I'll find the time right now to attack the huge mountain in front of me.

I did see this cool pic turn up on Eric Singer's site this morning, thought I'd pass it along. It's three generations of Black Sabbath drummers. Eric Singer, Bill Ward, & Vinny Appice. This happened when Bill Ward turned up backstage at a Heaven & Hell show. Alice Cooper is opening for Black Sabbath Heaven & Hell, so all three of 'em were there at the same time.

Thanks to Eric for posting the picture on his website.
