Black Sabbath Concert Review
October 4, 1995
Castro-Rauxel, Germany

A review by Marcus Meyer

Black Sabbath - October 4th, 1995 (Castrop Rauxel-Germany)
Support: Tiamat

I can only write on this concert from my memory. At that time I was working near the town of Castrop Rauxel and very glad they played there - although that must have been one of the strangest places they ever toured! Today, back with Mark I (and Geoff Nicholls), they wouldn´t do this kind of club-gig. In 1995 Black Sabbath were: Tony Iommi (guitar), Neil Murray (bass guitar), Bobby Rondinelli (drums) and Tony Martin (vox) and they came around to present the "Forbidden" album.

As support they had "Tiamat" from Sweden, who presented their album "Wildhoney". They offered a combination of Heavy Metal and ProgRock, among other things also some coverversion of Pink Floyd´s "Set The Control For The Heart Of The Sun".  Good Stuff!

After a short break it was Sabbath. The set list from that gig:

Intro: " The Omen "
Children Of the Grave
Neon Knights
The Shining
The Wizard
Get A Grip
Headless Cross
Iommi solo one (short)
Rusty Angels
When Death calls
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Can't Get Close Enough
Was Pigs
Mob Rules
Black Sabbath
Heaven & hell
Iron man (encore)
Paranoid (encore)
Outro: Laguna Sunrise

The gig was far from being sold out, but I was glad I was there. I had a good feeling about the line-up and the reunion thing was not at hand at that point. Special features of that concert were a smiling and seemingly very happy Tony Iommi, a very convincing Tony Martin (I was quite disappointed with his deliverance on the "Cross Purposes Live"-Set and feared the worst!) and a setlist to feature some very old, "never before played" tunes like "The Wizard" and "SBS" - Great!
