I love it .Im glad to hear that the band was thinking outside the Ozzy box. Its a shame that they didnt give this band a chance to grow .
Maybe `cause they sold their share of Sabbath name and material credits to Iommi

I don´t think so, bro. I really prefer the Glenn Hughes lineup, and Ray Gillen/Tony Martin's version for The Shining.. Dave DOnato have a good voice, and nothing else.

i opened http://www.myspace.com/rockdetector but where is the mp3?
Well i guess its the same with Ray Gillen we will never know how he would have sounded with Sabbath in a real working album !
What do ya mean? We have the entire Eternal Idol album with Ray, we know exactly what he sounded like
"I want to tell you, yeah
How Good It Feels
Sleeping here with you tonight
And that’s for real"

No ! They are demos like the Donato ones . Finished product was done by Martin !
The Donato ONE! Only one was released. And Rays stuf was essentially finished. Martin came in and rerecorded the vocals once Ray was out.

The finished product and the demos were quite different take a long listen. And i said ones because others were mentioned in the Never Say Die book .
There are three Ray Gillen demos. Period. One is a rought version of Eternal Album, with no guitar solos, and Dave Spitz playing bass ( I have it ), the second is the very comon version with Bob Daisley playing the bass, and all guitar solos ( I ave this one ), and there's a third version, mixed and ready to go to the stores... of course, this one never came up to general circles.. (Joe have it).
Bob Daisley's version is pretty good, I rate it as A+.. very diferent from Dave Donato's and Fenholt's.. this two have a very poor quality. But Ray Gillen's version have a very good quality and show how talented Ray was..

I agree . Have 3 versions as well . Dont have any problem with Ray but once again he never recorded the finished product , just the demos . Saw Sabbath with Hughes when he was not at his best , wish i could have seen Ray !

Why were Dave Spitz's basslines erased and re-recorded by Bob?

In fact I don't even think that Spitz recorded anything. I think he was put on "holydays" very early in the writing process and Bob Daisley did the whole thing. I mean, you don't hire someone like Bob Daisley just to re-record some bass lines, you want him to help writing his own stuff.

The bassline was re-wrote too man. If you give it a good listen, you will see that the essence of the bassline is diferent, with some diferent notes and scales..

Dave has told me his basslines were rewritten after Bob was brought in to help Ray Gillen with the lyrics. Ray was a great singer but wasn't really good at coming up with lyrics. This part is kinda in dispute in the Sabbath book.

No, no. Ray told himself that at that time, he was pretty imature to wrote lyrics FOR SABBATH man, that's why he left the work for Bob Daisley who had more experience about that. Three years latter, and in his own band, Ray wrote every single word for every single song for Badlands, and the lyrics are just awesome, check In A Dream or Seassons.

I've listened a few times now to the Donato recording
Glad he was fired
God knows as your dognose
i thought it was okay. did you listen to only the one song or are there others? if donato wrote the lyrics he did not do as good job and it shows not only on the demos but the white tiger cd as well.
does anyone have the white tiger cd ? is it any good or worth buying ? also there are others demos that Donato did but are not released yet !

the white tiger cd that was released in the 80's just suffers from bad production that is all. the lyrics are somewhat weak but the guitar work is great! there is a demo cd i saw on amazon.com it is called raw but it is not available. i got my white tiger cd on ebay used for 6.00. the guy i bought it from had 5 of them so i just paid like 2 dollars for the cd and 4 for shipping. Hows Daves vocals on this cd ?
not bad at all to tell you the truth. he has good vocal range and he doesn't seem to sing the same on all of the songs. two songs that stick out are rock warriors the re-mixed version and bad time coming. those are my favs on the disk.
