I'm psyched: will be happy most of all to hear "Symphony of Destruction". One of their best. They make my top 5 bands list, though didn't buy "Risk" after hearing it. Prefer the more angry/crunchy sound........

I pray like crazy that the upcoming 'UA' really does live up to the massive crescendo of high expectations that surrounds it. Oddly enough, I count myself as a major Megadeth fan and follower, though I really only love 5 records off their entire discography--i.e the first four early, eternal classics and the superb 'TSHF'. I just don't care much at all about stuff like 'Risk', 'Youthanasia', and even 'Cryptic Writings' and 'The World Needs A Hero'. Which is why I'm holding out in desperate hope that 'UA' turns out to be exactly what Dave seems to repeatedly suggest that it is: a return to the original, old-time thrashy brilliance that made Megadeth many fans' MVP from time to time.

RLP i'm with you on this one, there is so much hype surrounding UA as a return to greatness that i too am praying it lives up to it, and judging by the Sleepwalker and Gears Of War demos (which get better with everytime i listen to them) it certainly should be great. Also in terms of what i consider Megadeth's best albums i would again agree with you, except i enjoy TWNAH. In terms of how Megadeth albums rank in my opinion i would probably say this : Great - RIP, PSBWB, KIMBABIG, CTE. Good - SFSGSW, TWNAH, TSHF. and just plain awful - youthanasia, cryptic and risk.

I just really didn't like youthanasia at all, i really didn't care for it, only decent thing about it would probably be A Tout Le Monde, and even then i'd probably say that the song is the best of the worst megadeth songs. but then all that is only my opinion.

Apparently on UA, there is going to be a remake of A Tout Le Monde (I think that's what it's called) with Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil. They've made a video of it and it's going to be a single.

Saw this on the Nightwish forums.

I never cared for songs like 'Tout Le Monde' and the new version is clearly no redemption for a dud from the past. Reminds me of the lousy album the song belongs to and the appearance it made on that ridiculous compilation 'Capitol Punishment' record.

I'm all uptight about 'UA' and even mentally preparing myself to be let down. Somehow and sometimes Dave's promises of a return to the early raucous sound and style don't ring entirely true to me. I wanna be proved dead wrong on this one and hope to listen to and love UA madly.

**I don't know too much about the Drover brothers' credentials. They must be good enough for Dave to take them on board for such a landmark comeback album. I just can't help but ache and clamour for Chris to be there instead. He's always been my clear favourite Megadeth lead axeman.

It's my first time seeing them live, I wouldn't care if Dave was a little sick, he'd still kick ass like Tony Martin. And how often does this happen, you know: Ronnie James Dio fronting Sabbath and Megadeth ON THE SAME STAGE!

EDIT: Might I add that I woke up at seven oclock in the morning on my day off from college to get good seats, I'm seriously in for this event. Check out where I'm siting (Circled in red).

Megadeth is one of my all time favorite bands. I think the first time I became aware of them was watching the "Peace Sells" video on MTV. (Dad: Turn off that garbage and put on the news. Son: This IS the news!)

I have heard every Megadeth disc except for Killing is my Business and Risk. I haven't listened to Peace Sells and SFSGSW in forever and need to pick them up. RIP is my favorite. After repeated listens I don't think the remix/remastered versions of "Take No Prisoners" and "Five Magics" are as bad as I thought they were at first, but I still prefer the originals, especially Five Magics. The bass and drums also seem to be much more prominent in the remix than in the original. RIP is the only reissue I have so far, although "Greatest Hits" features remixed versions too, some of which (Train of Consequences for example) I prefer to the originals. I think the songs on Youthanasia are pretty good overall, but it was marred by the production, where the producer thought everything had to be a certain BPM (beat per minute) and the songs tended to degenerate toward the end where the chorus was simply repeated over and over.

I too can't wait for United Abominations. Remember, Dave conceived TSHF as a solo album but was forced by EMI to put the Megadeth name on it, so UA probably has a little more of a "Megadeth" feel to it.

Unfortunately I had to miss it because of school work. That always seems to happen to me whenever a band comes down to the Bell Centre. But from what another Montrealer said in the Dio Years section, H&H were fantastic (not so sure about 'Deth though).

Best $20 spent this year, got the new Megadeath live DVD. Obvious crowd into it, and played most of what I wanted to hear (and like to hear May 10th). Sorry, not into costumes and tons of talking BS, they did it my way: stacks of amps and doing their job. To me an A+ and preserves them for me for years from now. Thanks Dave.

Saw a setlist from the H&H tour here but can't find it. Anybody got one from a recent show ?

This new album is literally (imho) the BEST Megadeth album since probably Rust, or Countdown. I like select songs from those two (Not quite as much as I LOVE the first two albums) and the new songs like Sleepwalker are at the level of Holy Wars, and Ashes In Your Mouth for sure. I can't believe it's taken Dave this long to regain his fire. But I think the Drover brothers( Mega's Guitar & Drums) being HUGE Mega- fans helps quite a bit.

Hi devstorm, remember me??. Your ringing endorsement of 'UA', gives me tons of hope about how I might feel on hearing the album when I finally buy and get my hands on my personal cd of Megadeth's latest after a long, anxious, frustrating and seemingly endless wait. I have only sampled three songs off 'UA' and I like them all. I'd sure like to find out if Dave's repeated hints of a supposed 'return to roots' sound (something that I personally desperately yearn for) actually ring true on this record. Also, your comment about the Drover brothers' impact on the record also makes me even more curious cos I don't recall hearing of them before all the news erupted about a new line-up recording a latest Megadeth album and Dave really promoting the brothers as well. But dev, when you say that the brothers' being huge Megadeth fans 'helps quite a bit' I can't help but feel that sort of thing can be such a double-edged instrument. I mean to have two band members that possibly idolize the guy and mainman like Dave Mustaine that hired them to come aboard on his ship, can very often mean that the guys can be a bit overawed or simply overly grateful just to be there recording in the same studio and sharing camp. That can mean that the guys---the Drover brothers in this case---risk being a little too restricted in truly expressing themselves and their true abilities. I guess that danger had been averted on this album at least.

I'll tell you why the first two Megadeth records remain my perennial favourites. It's a lot down to Chris Poland, a guy whose style and presence both inside the studio and out performing live, I find amazingly thrilling. After Chris made serious sparks fly on 'TSHF', I was desperately hoping he'd stick around for the next album as well.

Anyway, here's hoping 'UA' ends up ranking high up among my list of loved Megadeth albums.

Hey RLP, I sure do remember you.

I think the Drover Brothers are not so much "DAVE" fans as they are fans of Megadeth the band.

Just as some background on Glenn, he spent time with King Diamond in the late 90's and early 2000's. The first time seeing King live I was blown away by Glenns playing and became a fan of his instantly. I remember reading about his fondness for Megadeth even back then. And he mentioned among his favorite Megadeth cuts Good Morning/Black Friday, which has always been one of my alltime favz as well.

He also has been playing in his own band called Eidolon since the early 90's with his brother. Eidolon are a great Progressive /Power/Thrash band in their own right. Somewhat along the lines of perhaps Annihilator, meets Fates Warning, meets Megadeth. They have a good range of samples to listen to on the Eidolon web site. I encourage anyone reading this to check that site out.

Anyway I suspect The Drover Brothers being fans of the band might've just made sure the material, or their contributions to the material lived up to the standards set on those first Deth albums. I know what you're saying RLP. Sometimes having Fans in the band just create imitation without getting behind the impetuous of what created a bands sound etc. I don't get the vibe the Drovers are imitating anyone but they just bring that Megadeth vibe to the band and they compliment Dave so perfectly. I have no way of knowing who brought what into the writing of this album. But knowing Glenn & Shawns past performances in Eidolon, along with Glenns love for older thrash, (and knowing his overall musical influences which are many of mine as well) I just had a gut feeling that the Megadeth sound might finally be in good hands again. It's surprising to me that some of the stuff I heard last fall that was going to be in this album sounded pretty bland. But whatever they did to it since then really worked in their favor.

I can't say how others will embrace it. And while it's not a return to Killing or Peace Sells, it's sure head and shoulders above Euthanasia, Risk etc.

Anyway good to hear from you again RLP.

I'm eager to hear it, obviously a great band but members have to deal with Dave's well known personality and ego. I thought the brothers did well on the new live DVD though Mustaine got most of the shots and large above stage screen time. Its his band of course.

Thanks for talking back Dev and bringing me up to speed on the Drover brothers' background and past accomplishments. I reckon I have nothing too worry to much regarding the new album's quality and vibe. I'm gonna get it the soonest possible.

I can grudgingly settle for the fact that for numerous reasons 'UA' can't be (and actually isn't) a 'return to roots' a la 'Killing....' or 'Peace Sells....', two of four Megadeth albums that I genuinely love to this day. But I'd whole-heartedly welcome and applaud the suggestion from those like yourself that have heard the album through that 'UA' is streets ahead of '90s Megadeth material like 'Youthanasia', 'Risk'. And may I add that I'm very ambivalent about 'CtE', 'Cryptic Writings' and 'TWNAH' as well. So if 'UA' turns out to be the next best thing compared to the peerless first four by the band, then my long wait is about to be vindicated.

Dev, lately I've been listening to mostly DM records. A whole lotta Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Incantation, Immolation and Dying Fetus (death/grindcore???). You'd notice this quintet is mostly NYDM (brutal/tech), a style that I have learned to love and admire hugely, surpassing my love for the Florida heavyweights. Cryptopsy, though, are Canadian legends. What have you been upto musically??

I want to revise my earlier Praise of Megadeth's new release.
My exuberance was mainly focussed on the first 4 songs or so.
Yesterday I was driving around & made sure to skip through to the 5th song & beyond and there is a fair amount of filler. So for the record the good stuff on Abominations is GREAT! But it's not quite as solid through to the last notes. Still I stand firm on my opinion that it's much more of a valiant effort from Dave since 92.

RLP I actually haven't been into DM much since we last chatted.
I did like the latest ASESINO CD, which features Dino from Fear Factory. It's along the same lines as Brujeria. And the latest Dimmu is (imo) decent, although to me sounds a little too much like the last one which I wasn't as into as others. But since the DIO years, and Live at the Hammersmith Odeon came out, and I got a chance to see Heaven & Hell play a few weeks ago, I've been stuck on their albums, Ozzy's stuff with Rhoads, and a lot of Maiden lately as well. I'll always be a fan of the extreme metal scene. But I'm enjoying taking a rest from it. I've also been into an all instrumental band called Pelican, Amy Winehouse, a band called Blonde Redhead, the soundtrack album to Tarantino's Grindhouse(AN AMAZING FILM), and the new Rush that came out this week.

The more mainstream "traditional" Metal has influenced some recent songwriting just as somewhat of an experiment. But I'm not sure I'll be taking it to a band & get it recorded and on stage etc. It's just something for the hell of it. I do have an EP in process that is about half written thats very fast and intense at times. And I have some people enlisted to play on it when it's ready to take to the next level. But some of the material still needs some work & I need to add a bit more until it's done. I played bass on a new demo by this band calling themselves Kiss The Gun(Of which there are many with that name). This version are kind of a Foo Fighters/Pixies type of band. I was also asked to play some shows with them when they're ready. But I'm not sure whats going on with them at the moment.

AS far as the NY scene is considered I haven't found a lot thats really made me stand up and take notice. I saw DF last year with Cannibal and watch about 1/2 their set waiting for CC. But I just wasnt too into the material. They're fine musicians though. Cryptopsy has had some albums that were really impressive and inspiring to me, Whisper Supremacy is my favorite. I am looking forward to the new Nile CD. Their last one was such a return to form in my opinion. I am hoping they can keep the level of quality as high as they got it on the last one.

But back to Megadeth, I really do think this album is going to get Glenn Drover some new fans. This stuff is in the same class as the classic Poland & Friedman solo's.

I want to revise my earlier Praise of Megadeth's new release.
My exuberance was mainly focussed on the first 4 songs or so.

Last night was nothing but AMAZING. The new material kicked so much ass, LoMenzo and the Drover brothers matched up to the original material. I was very satisfied, especially with Dave, what a showman. And they even played Hangar 18, freaking sweet, they got more air time then Machine Haed, and that's what I just wanted.
Let me tell you now, about a friend of mine. He tried to shoot them lights, with whiskey and the wine. He didn't get so far, ah his gun was wrong. Now my sweet friend, where's your song? Shoot out the lights, shoot out the lights.
