Glad to hear Megadeath getting more time than the opener, not into Cookie monster vocals and am as psyched to hear the new Megadeath songs as much as see Iommi again. Tomorrow's the day

I've been listening to some of the new songs and I can't WAIT to get this album. Sleepwalker, Gears of War, Washington is next, and even the Tout le monde remix sound fucking amazing. Im sorry to say...on a black sabbath forum...they're alot better than the 3 new sabbath songs

United Abominations was reviewed in Kerrang today and it got a very good review (4 out of 5), so i am very excited to be picking this up when it comes out. Although i am somewhat sceptical about some of the songs i have heard, A Toute Le Monde (really what was the point in this, i think dave only done it becaus he felt he lost out on a previous chance of commercial success of a single, he even mentioned the demographic appeal of christina scabbia when discussing why he used her instead of lisa marie pressley), Play for blood and Never walk alone sounded quite generic and i found them quite iffy but i only listened to them once, Washington is next only listened to that once as well and although i wasnt overly impressed i felt there was potential for it to grow on me, Sleepwalker i loved and although dave did have some lapses of silly lyrics in this (eg. "did i give you concrete shoes?") it was still great with classic megadeth sounds in it, but my absolute favourite from what i've heard and what is definetly one of my fave megadeth songs of all time is Gears of War, just pure awsomeness, made even better by the fact that it was made to go with the awsome game of the same name.

Don't worry, I would think the same, but let's face it: Megadeth is a different breed compared to Black Sabbath, so you're not really doing any damage here saying these tracks are better. Here's to the new album.

Maybe I need to get into this band. I never did.

So all I got to do is to find the most ridiculed and hated album and it'll surely become my favourite, over anything classic and cool and popular.

Thats the spirit, I think the hated album by Megadeth fans it the Risk album. I personally love this album. I think you might like it.

It doesn't sound lame in the slightest. Thanks to you for leading the way by launching this thread on a band that is a special favourite of yours, mine and of a lot of our friends out here too. When this thread was all brand new, I wouldn't bet on it grabbing 100+ posts, but it has swelled pretty quickly over the weeks and I'm glad as you are 8bit, that we all helped keep the conversation rolling on. And we are not done yet, cos I reckon loads more opinionated posts must surely be coming up regarding 'UA's impact on us all.

***To me, Risk is a deflating dud, Youthanasia hardly any better, The World Needs A Hero quite a bit improved but still nowhere near Megadeth's finest, and Cryptic Writings, just maybe the best of this quartet of what I'll always regard as Megadeth (Lite) catalogue. Countdown to Extinction was the forerunner of this slippery slide to that frustratingly flaky, commercial hard-rockish sound and style, and simply pared-down metal records.

I bought United Abominations today and i all got to say is................................................ .........................WOW!!! FREAKIN WOW!!! Great stuff, Dave really seems to have found himself again and surrounded himself with other musicians wanting to succeed as much as he does in carrying on the megadeth name and tradition. Just an amazing album i absolutely love it, frontrunner for album of the year for me right now (although Ozzy next week so i'll need to see how good that is). I just though i'd come on here and let all you other megadeth fans know just how great this album is, i'll give a quick run down of how i rate the tracks from best to worst.

Gears Of War (5 out of 5, just love this song, an all time fave megadeth song for me now)
    Sleepwalker (5/5, classic Megadeth)
United Abominations (5/5, would have liked the song to last a bit longer, on songs like this dave normally goes over the tope with the voice over sort of thing but it fits perfect on this song)
    Washington Is Next (another 5/5)
    Play For Blood (5/5)
    Blessed Are The Dead (5/5)
    Amerikhastan (5/5)
    You're Dead (5/5)
    Burnt Ice (5/5)
Never Walk Alone...Call To Arms (3/5, really didn't grab me as much as all the others did)
A Tout Le Monde (2/5, really what was the point in doing this again?)

Overall i give the album 4/5, the pointlessness (if there's such a word) of re-doing A Tout Le Monde, and then not really changing it up at all, stops me giving this album a perfect, but aside from that i would give it 5/5. Hope you all enjoy UA as much as i did.

I just ordered it yesterday, but I have to wait for it because I didn't put in for fast shipping. Sokay though, I can hold out. The concert already proved that some of the album is AMAZING. As to celebrate Megadeth, I updated my avatar. Cheers Droogies.

I'm gonna order 'UA' tomorrow on Amazon for express shipping delivery so I can have my hands on it by Sunday latest. I'm hopeful that I'm gonna like the entire album and find it to be much better than some of the latter-day Megadeth records I don't care much about. That said, this whole thing about a microwaved 'A Tout Le Monde' being on this latest, much-hyped album irks me greatly, cos I never could stand that tune and regard it as emblematic of some of Megadeth's highly cheesy, commercial poppy tendencies they so gladly flirted with for most of the '90s to the present day. If they had also included something like a revamped 'Crush', to name another obvious candy song, on here, then I'm certain I wouldn't wanna buy 'UA' at all.

Anyway, here's hoping for a great new record and more talk later.

Just back from the Megadeth gig here in Glasgow and all i can say is WHOOO!! FUCKIN-A!! Amazing show, best gig i've ever been to, but the choice of venue also helped that. For those who are going to see them at some point this year then you are in for a treat; amazing performance, perfect set list filled with classics and 3 new tracks (and like one song i don't enjoy, but who cares the rest is perfect).

I saw Megadeth at the Sauna Open Air festival June 7, 2007. It was my fifth time seeing Megadeth live, and it was easily the best and fastest show I've seen from them. Here's their set list:

    1. Sleepwalker
    2. Take No Prisoners
    3. Set The World Afire
    4. Skin O’ My Teeth
    5. Devil’s Island
    6. Gears Of War
    7. Wake Up Dead
    8. Hangar 18
    9. Kick The Chair
    10. She-Wolf
    11. Tornado Of Souls
    12. In My Darkest Hour
    13. Washington Is Next!
    14. Reckoning Day
    15. Mechanix
    16. Peace Sells
    ***
    17. Symphony Of Destruction
    18. Holy Wars... The Punishment Due

That's what I call a Speed Metal show! Unbelievable!

Megadeth are awesome, all of their albums are great. Mustaine is a great guy, though he is very moody.

And I would also like to say that Risk is one of the most underrated albums of all time.

Speaking of which, I got my hands on the import version, and I finally listend to the LZ cover "Out On The Tiles".

Previously I mentioned that Dave rented John Bonham's drums for Shawn to play on, and they very prominent on this track. The guitar and bass work however were of a modern approach to this LZ classic, sharper and more edgy then the original. Dave Mustaine on this song is no Robert Plant because he didn't raise his voice high enough, but to me he still did a very good job. At the end of the track they fade out and then fade in with a little rendition of the intro to Kashmir. I could only wish this song could match up to the original a little more, as oppose to Sabbath's Never Say Die! track. If you ever get the chance on the import somehow, pick it up if you like to hear the LZ cover track.

I won't tell you ALL that I think. Lemme just say what I've often both felt and said out loud: one of the luckiest and best things to have happened in the entire metal scene of the 1980s is Dave Mustaine's axing from Metallica which saw Mustaine follow his destiny into launching what turned out to be a rival act that beat Metallica, on every level, in my book.

Dave Mustaine was, and remains, a far better rhythm guitar player, lyricist and singer than mister Hetfield ever was, even in his brief early heydays. Chris Poland,(then Marty Friedman, but really mostly Chris) unleashed tons more of the craziest, scorchingly fast and furious, breathtakingly memorable lead guitar riffs and licks, than Hammet and sidekicks could ever conjure up. Gar Samuelson (RIP, immortal friend), on drums, was so many leagues above and beyond a second-rate poser like Lars Ulrich, that most fans of either/both bands, seem to find it hard to even compare the two in any half-serious manner.

Despite both bands going the pared-down, mainstream, commercial metal route in mid-career, I still reckon that Dave Mustaine had more 'metal' in his car keys than the entire Metallica crew had in all their equipment or the music they so shamelessly peddled (post-AJFA). Megadeth, to me, just had more attitude, adventure and dare to them all the time, recorded many more exciting, memorable thras metal-rock songs, were certainly flashier, more compelling live performers, and even at their most commercial, poppy guises, remained interesting, relevant and 'metal' enough to have my respect and continued fond feelings.

Can you even fantasize about Metallica being even remotely capable of making a record that could rival Megadeth's 'United Abominations', today??

My favorite Megadeth has to be Youthanasia. I can sit an listen to each instrument individually and be blown away by the presision. The guitar harmonies are outstanding. I really like Cryptic Writings too.......
It's tough to choose between them, Youthanasia only wins cos it was the first I heard completely. Countdown to Extinction would be a 3rd place contender then Risk, but that's a little patchy.

Let me tell you now, about a friend of mine. He tried to shoot them lights, with whiskey and the wine. He didn't get so far, ah his gun was wrong. Now my sweet friend, where's your song? Shoot out the lights, shoot out the lights.
