I'm not aware of any other remaster tragedy by Megadeth. 'Killing... ' remaster is awful for sure. The RIP remaster, like I've pointed out earlier, is a slap in the face to all die-hard Megadeth fans like me. Thank god, I never lost my original. Then there's 'Countdown to Extinction' . That remaster is actually rather good (the sound is a bit more powerful and gives you a harder kick overall). Nothing serious to complain about. Personally though, I always prefer and listen to the original '92 CTE release. The few changes in the songs(guitar solos and other arrangements) in the remaster don't wow me too much. So I guess the remaster wasn't even really necessary. I still always listen to the original CTE which is great enough on its own.

8bit, have you got all the Megadeth albums like I do?.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm a cd hunter myself, Megadeth is another feat I want to collect, so I'm just asking around. CTE remaster I'm keeping due to the fact I don't trust Ebay that much, and if it's almost the same, unlike RIP, then that's fine by me. Killing though, the only complaint I have is These Boots, which I tracked down somewhere else to get the original. Sometimes I don't pay attention much to quality on some cds, but I look for the ones that are the real thing AKA Blizzard/Diary 95 remasters and RIP original release. So yeah, I guess pretty soon I'll get all Megadeth. Already did Sabbath, Van Halen, and Metallica. Slayer also until the new release came out, and still need the box as well. Zeppelin just recently finish as well.
Let me tell you now, about a friend of mine. He tried to shoot them lights, with whiskey and the wine. He didn't get so far, ah his gun was wrong. Now my sweet friend, where's your song? Shoot out the lights, shoot out the lights.

Rust In Peace.
As a matter of trivia, I actually got Rust In Peace to 8bit Fighter (who started this thread) and got him started on Megadeth . . .
I'll get Christ Illusion to him if he wants it too *wink wink* And yeah, his Slayer collection came from me.
Our first band, though, was Sabbath.

Hi LostandTorn, you deserve a whole lotta credit and a personal tribute from me for spreading the word about two of my all-time favourite thrash metal warriors---Slayer and Megadeth--and winning us a fantastic new recruit in 8bit Fighter. Good on ya buddy. Don't wait for him to ask, just go ahead and get him 'Christ Illusion' . I was slightly unimpressed on first listen, but now I love CI, and I think it belongs up there among Slayer's finest. And if 8bit gets lazy, make sure you land Megadeth's 'United Abominations' on his lap in 2007.

First off, I'm not lazy. I want it later. Second off, no way in HELL I'll pass up United Abonimations. For now I'm just happy for what I have. I wouldn't say I"m a new recruit, but if that's what to call me, fine. Just as metal as anyone else.

Hey sorry 8bit. I think you took my comments the wrong way. I was just kidding about you not missing out on any of the great collection that LostandTorn has got you into. Of course, you will buy and get what you want when you want it. Fine with me.

Sokay, I accept your apology. My friend is a bit of a show off, and there is nothing better than for me to beat him at his game. It's why I like Dave Mustaine so much: badass guy that wants nothing more than to be number one, like his fight against his former bandmates of Metallica over in the 80's. But back at topic at hand, I just recently got "Hidden Treasures" and I wonder why Dave deleted it. Any thoughts...?

I think he wanted for it to be limited, and sorta live up to its name. If you're a big enough fan to track down a copy of the CD, you deserve to have all those rare songs on one disc. That kinda thing.

They have had a roller coaster career - when they are good (Rust in Peace) they are one of the best in the world, when they are bad (Risk) they are at the bottom of the pile....

I saw them live in 1990 and they were very energetic but not that sharp. Saw them play last week on last show of the Gigantour for 2006 and they were really top notch.

I actually like Risk. Their current line-up is definitely solid, so I'm hoping for a good studio album come March.

I used to like Megadeth quite a bit when I was in high school. I still think "Rust In Peace" is their high point.

I heard "Gears of War" on Sirius. Found it kind of dull.

TAKE ME WITH YOU! LOL. No seriously, I wish I was that lucky. Now as for Megadeth though, they are a really good band. *Jack Black impression* REEEAAALLY GOOD. Dave Mustaine kicks major ass. If you want a sample of one of their songs, there is the demo released on the front page on Megadeth.com for the upcoming album mentioned in my last post.

hey 8bit, I'm sure gonna check out the Megadeth site right after I log out of here. But if this is indeed the real, final word about the new album's release date, then at least my hopes and long wait for United Abominations wouldn't be in vain after all.

Remember how all of us avid Megadeth fans were hanging on Dave's every word and were initially promised a January release. That was deferred, to widespread discontent, to mid-March. And now you post this info about a May release. I don't expect Dave to be a sleazy tease with us all by constantly pushing forward the release. But I sure expect him to be true to his word when he says (as he has often done so already) that UA is gonna be a return of sorts to the early thrilling thrashy sound and style that I mainly love them for. Don't know how it's for you 8bit, but I just can't wait any longer to hear the entire album through and tell you all how I feel about it.

my favorite megadeth album is killing is my business...and business is good. Megadeth is my second favorite thrash band only under slayer and they are consistently good and kick metallicas ass. I understand Dave's anger at metallica. Anyways back to my favorite megadeth album... skull beneath the skin is just awesome and is my favorite song from the whole album. Peace sells... is my second favorite.

I'm not at all worried for Dave's past postponing for this album. We already gotten Gears Of War and Sleepwalker out on the site, so it would seem that they have atleast a month to finish up the final touches. I'm actually curious on the Led Zeppelin cover "Out On The Tiles" and how it's going to sound like. Is it going to be truefull to the original or is it going to tear it up (in a good way). I thought that it was cool for Dave to rent Bonham's original drums for Shawn to use.*

* I don't remember when this was said, don't quote me on this, but I read it on the Megadeth site.

United Abominations tracklisting revealed :

MEGADETH: 'United Abominations' Track Listing Revealed - Mar. 4, 2007

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update via the band's official web site:

"The tracklisting for the new album is going to be 11 songs for the States (including 'A Tout Le Monde'), for Japan it is 12 (including 'Out on the Tiles').

"It is very likely there will be bonus material from the future release 'The Making of United Abominations' (working title) included, which would be included on releases in these two territories, as well as special exclusive tracks for major dealers in the U.S. [This doesn't include drugs or arms dealers].

The track listing, as of today, is:

01. Sleepwalker
02. Washington Is Next!
03. Never Walk Alone
04. United Abominations
05. Gears Of War
06. Blessed Are The Dead
07. Play For Blood
08. A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free) (feat. Cristina Scabbia)
09. Amerikhastan
10. You're Dead
11. Burnt Ice
Japan Only
12. Out On The Tiles (LED ZEPPELIN cover)
(However this special track may appear in extraordinary circumstances)

The B-sides for special editions are:

13. Black Swan
14. The Bodies Left Behind
15. Special Live Track

This is all for now. We are greenlighted to announce our next wave of tour dates tomorrow morning at 7:30ish EST. Be prepared to be very happy American Droogs! I can't wait!!!

Ok i really don't see the point in them putting a newer version of one of their older songs onto this album, if this new version of A Toute Le Monde was simply bonus material then fine, but its right in there as part of the album, at this point i really don't care too much for this idea, however if when i hear the album this song adds to the whole experience of the album then fine.

Just bought and watched "Megadeth : That One Night", must say it was pretty good, certainly the performance of the band was great and the fans were brilliant too, my only gripe with it would be the tracklist, there quite a few songs on there that i dont like (namely those from Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings and Risk). I must say that if some of the songs on the setlist that night had been put on the dvd tracklisting instead of a couple of others i would have been more pleased with the dvd. And what i found astonishing was that not a single song from Killing Is My Business was played, and i dont mean just on the dvd but their whole setlist for that night didnt contain one song from that album. Anyone else seen it and what are your thoughts on it?

I just got it. I think it's great. Much better than Rude Awakening (better sound, audience and performance). The atmosphere is great. Yeah the set list could have been better, but I liked it still. I loved I'll Be There! They played Rattlehead on that tour in Finland, damn I wish they had played it on the DVD.

My only complaint is about the drum sounds. The drums are not loud enough, especially the bass drums.

45 minutes is about right for a support band. This is Sabbath's gig.

New interview from Dave :

Less than a minute into United Abominations opening track, “Sleepwalker,” Dave Mustaine and Megadeth make their intentions clear: to deliver nothing less than a jarring, shocking and absolutely awe-inspiring rude awakening to the heavy metal community.

A classically tinged intro; that instantly recognizable, nerve-rattling, gut-wrenching chug-chug; that unmistakable, sneering wail; and then BAM: Wake Up, Heavy Metal Masses!

Wake Up, Dead! Megadeth is back to spark your mind and stir your soul with a shot of adrenaline that forces you to react.

United Abominations possesses an arsenal of weapons sharpened and honed like no heavy metal album before it. The venomous raw aggression of Killing is My Business…And Business is Good!, the political bite and bile of Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying?, the haunting darkness of So Far, So Good…So What!, the razor-blade mega-riffing of Rust in Peace, the sheer song-craft of Countdown to Extinction and the personal-demon-exorcism of Youthanasia and Cryptic Writings all coalesce into a career landmark album.

“It’s kind of a defibrillator for the metal community,” Mustaine says with his trademark grin. “Somebody’s got to step up to the plate, play solos again, and play heavy rhythms that are actually recorded live in the studio — because it ain’t the same six seconds pasted 300 times. Somebody had to do it again.”

And who better than one of the men who invented the style? A genre born of the marriage of AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and punk rock whose influence continues to dominate. Writing in the New York Times of a recent Megadeth concert, Ben Ratliff noted, “Mr. Mustaine was one of speed-metal’s originators, and his double-time riffs are propulsive; bending over his guitar, long blond tresses hanging down, he gives his solos the direct feeling of wrestling with the music as he plays it, with some chaos and aggression” (9/30/06).

Mustaine’s fingerprints are all over a particular style of attacking the guitar, of opening your mouth to speak the truth that’s on your mind regardless of consequence, of forging ahead and overcoming obstacles. This is a man that people who have felt the sting of rejection and the sorrow of failure have rallied behind for decades.

After a brief experimentation with more commercial leaning material on the aptly titled Risk, Mustaine began a steady climb to reclaim his crown with The World Needs a Hero and the critically hailed tour-de-force that was 2004’s The System Has Failed. What began as a solo project concluded as the answer to every true Mega-fan’s prayers. As Revolver hailed, “The System Has Failed is Megadeth’s most vengeful, poignant and musically complex offering since 1992’s Countdown to Extinction…it’s clear that are not just back, they’re paranoid, pissed and motivated to destroy” (September 2004).

And now United Abominations, with the Drover brothers (guitarist Glen and drummer Shawn) and bassist James LoMenzo delivering top-notch performances, Megadeth has reached a new peak.

“It’s really invigorating to go back to playing thrash and speed metal,” enthuses Mustaine. “I started playing this type of music because I loved the way it made me feel. When I started the turnaround with The World Needs a Hero and The System Has Failed, it was obvious this was going to be where the buck stops.”

With worldwide sales close to twenty million, a website that was arguably the first true rock n’ roll destination on the Internet and several releases universally considered to be among the best metal records of all time and his acclaimed cross-country Gigantour festival tour that he created and headlined in 2005 and 2006. Mustaine is a true legend. He conceived a band that would become the most technically proficient of the “Big Four” of thrash on a cross-country bus trip fueled by a desire to stake his claim. That band continues to innovate and inspire all over United Abominations songs like “Pray for Blood” and “You’re Dead.”

Rap-rock is dead. Nu-metal is gone. And after the people get their hands on United Abominations, all of the over-processed, computer sounding garbage clogging heavy metal’s arteries is about to go extinct.

United Abominations benefits tremendously from the true-to-life performances (blisters and all) captured in several recording sessions with long-time Megadeth cohort Jeff Balding and legendary metal-maven Andy Sneap.

“We were in the studio and Glen had put his rhythms down on ‘Sleepwalker.’ And Andy said to me, ‘You know you don’t really need to put your rhythm down there,’” Mustaine recalls. “And I said, ‘Oh yeah I do. My rhythm style is totally different from anybody’s.’ And as soon as I started playing, he goes, ‘That’s right! It’s an old-school digging in, innit?’ And I said, ‘Yeah Andy. That’s it.’”

Mustaine’s gift for outspokenly critiquing the slow moral decay of society is stronger than ever, from the Book of Revelations-themed “Blessed are the Dead” to the sure-to-stir-conversation “Amerikhastan,” a purely fictional song inspired by the Fox Network’s Emmy winning series “24,” featuring Keifer Sutherland.

“If you have the goods musically, you can say whatever you want, and [on this album] I basically said it,” states the man who once covered the Democratic National Convention for MTV News. “I said how I feel about the United Nations. I said how I feel about the New World Order. I said how I feel about the ignorance and apathy of our fathers right now that are leading our country who are just letting everything be taken away from us.”

“It’s OK to practice freedom of speech, assembly, the press, religion, except when it comes to making you unpopular,” Mustaine says with a particular pointed-ness. “When you take a stand for what’s right you often become unpopular. I’m not a really popular guy. I may be semi-famous but I’m really more infamous than famous.”

With United Abominations, it’s clear Megadeth have arrived at their finest hour, as illustrated by the near-deafening rattle of the guitar-tones, the overt blunt force of the lyrics, the complex yet catchy mechanics of the song-writing.

“I know there are some people who are prejudiced against this type of music,” Mustaine says. “But I’m ready to get out there and see what the response is going to be like from the public.

“I can say that I have absolutely made my best Megadeth record, ever.”
