Default Re: 10 Best Black Sabbath songs EVER!

I'm voting for my faves at the moment, which for now are (in no order):

    Lord of this World
    Hand of Doom
    Heaven & Hell
    Sign of the Southern Cross
    Buried Alive
    Born Again
    Hot Line
    Lost Forever
    Nightmare
    Evil Eye

Actually cancel that, I am extremely hooked on Buried Alive, Hot Line and Lost Forever at the moment - simply equally excellent songs in my opinion.

The only varience is the balance of songs depending on the mood and era I'm rotating through at the time, though there will tend to be more Dio and other post-ozzy tracks.

    Into the Void
    Neon Knights
    Disturbing teh Priest
    Zero the Hero
    Glory Ride
    Anno Mundi
    Virtual Death
    Evil Eye

It is hard to choose only 10 very best out of that many songs.
I have a hard time with the Martin albums because I like it all so very much. However the older songs can't be ignored as they made Sabbath the band that I love so much.

    My Top 10 Sabbath songs?

#1) Spiral Architect- in a league by itself for me

After that, in no particular order...

    I
    Buried Alive
    Lonely Is The Word
    Megalomania
    Johnny Blade
    Psychophobia
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
    Disturbing The Priest
    Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Follow The Tears- get over it or sue me... it was Sabbath!

I know it's 11 songs listed... damn Michigan Public Schools.

I have thought long and hard about this. What makes Black Sabbath so great is they made so, so many great songs. I looked through IommiRules' list very carefully and you know what? I love every one of the songs he listed. Love them. And yet, not one of them cracks my own top 10 list.

    Mine, in chronological order:

    Black Sabbath
    War Pigs
    Into the Void
    Heaven and Hell
    Neon Knights
    Die Young
    Sign of the Southern Cross
    Eternal Idol
    Sabbath Stones
    Computer God

Strangely, if I cheated and added an 11th pick, it would be Follow the Tears.

    Symptom of the Universe
    Heaven and Hell
    Breaking Into Heaven
    Sign of the Southern Cross
    I Witness
    Disturbing the Priest
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Cornucopia
    Mob Rules
    Master of Insanity

These are the 10 I thought of off the top of my head. If I sat and thought for a long time, the list might have been slightly different.

Honorable mention (#11 and #12) Kiss of Death and Born Again

I'll just stick with the Ozzy era because I already have the Top 10 firmly fixed in my mind from another thread. I havn't considered including the other eras as that would need some serious consideration and working out. Anyway the list:

    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    Symptom Of The Universe
    Spiral Architect
    N.I.B.
    Fairies Wear Boots
    War Pigs
    Junior's Eyes
    Air Dance
    Hole In The Sky
    You Won't Change Me

Honourable mentions to : Wheels of Confusion, Tomorrow's Dream, Thrill Of It All, Megalomania, Lord Of This World
My name is Lucifer please take my hand.

This is such a monstrous task that usually I wouldn't even try, but I'm giving it a go. The following songs are not in any specific order:

    Bible Black
    A National Acrobat
The Sign Of The Southern Cross
    Heaven & Hell
    War Pigs
    Killing Yourself To Live
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
    Children of the Sea
    Solitude
    Lonely is the Word

Honorable mentions: Spiral Architect, Children of the Grave, Computer God, Country Girl, After All (The Dead), Black Sabbath, I, When Death Calls, N.I.B., Iron Man, Mob Rules, Die Young, Sabbra Cadabra, Over & Over, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Snowblind, Fear, Born Again, Zero The Hero, Symptom of the Universe

I just felt I had to list so many honorable mentions, because most of them could appear on my top 10 tomorrow. And I could as well make a list of contenders for the songs that received a honorable mention
"The consequence of conscience/Is that you'll be left somewhere/Swinging in the air"-Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) R.I.P. King Of Metal
"Just take a look around you what do you see/Pain, suffering, and misery/It's not the way that the world was planned/It's a pity you don't understand" - Geezer Butler

I'm glad to see you hold Falling Off The Edge Of The World in as high regard as I do. That song just screams masterpiece with its sad dark intro, then the thundering slow Riff, then fast Riff with such a spectacular solo. To me this song has some of Iommi's greatest Riffs and I believe this is geezer's best bass work ever. We must not forget dio's great performance. I really hope this one wins the Mob Rules survivor. The songs has it all really.

Ten is far too few, you can't even cover all the albums with a top 10, lol. Would need it to be more of a top 25-30 to make a decent list. There are many many songs that rank dead even for me, more than ten, lol.

---------- Post added at 03:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:21 PM ----------

Here I'll make a top 40. In mostly chronological order. They aren't rated 1-40, just listed.

    1. Black Sabbath
    2. N.I.B.
    3. War Pigs
    4. Iron Man
    5. Electric Funeral
    6. Children of The Grave

    22. Heart Like a Wheel/Angry Heart/In Memory
    23. Nightmare
    24. Headless Cross
    25. When Death Calls
    26. Nightwing
    27. Computer God
    28. Afterall (the dead)
    28. Letters From Earth
    29. I
    30. Sins of The Father

    38. Rock and Roll Angel
    39. Follow The Tears
    40. Breaking Into Heaven

Now I don't feel like I've left too much out. I do feel somewhat bad for leaving Eternal Idol and Forbidden out for the most part, just haven't listened to them enough, although I think they are great from the few listens I've given them on youtube.

Here's my rather predictable little list (chronological):

    Black Sabbath
    War Pigs
    Iron Man
    Fairies Wear Boots
    Sweet Leaf
    Embryo/Children of the Grave
    Killing Yourself to Live
    Never Say Die
    Heaven and Hell
    Neon Knights

Too many honorable mentions to mention them all, but they include Falling Off the Edge of the World, Voodoo, all of Vol. IV and side one of Sabotage. I really wanted to include something from the TM era just to show how all inclusive I am, but I couldn't honestly do it.

It varies for me personally; kind of depends on the mood I'm currently in.

    Still, in no particular order

    •I
    •Black Sabbath
    •Solitude
    •Heaven And Hell
    •Children of the Grave
    •Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
•The Sign of the Southern Cross
    •Eternal Idol
    •Spiral Architect
    •Iron Man

Honorable mentions: The Wizard, Planet Caravan, Computer God, Born Again, and finally Lonely Is The Word

To be fair, though, I seem to have found something in just about every single one of those albums that appeals to me. Top 10 is kind of narrow that way.

I notice my earlier post just included Ozzy era songs because that top 10 ws fresh in my mind, so here's a top 10 from the other eras. You never know in another 9 months I might merge them into a single top 10!

    Neon Knights
    Children of the Sea
    Die Young
    Over And Over
    Zero The Hero
    The Sabbath Stones
    Computer God
    Too Late
    Cross Of Thorns
    Psychophobia

    Martin Era:
    Don't have his albums either.
Well I don’t want no preacher telling me about the god in the sky
No I don’t want no one to tell me where I’m gonna go when I die
I wanna live my life, I don’t want people telling me what to do
I just believe in myself, ’cause no one else is true

Impossible to pick ten from all eras; It's pretty much impossible to choose ten from any era really (except Gillan and Gillen), so I'll compromise and try and pick ten from each era like Ochlocracy did. With Ozzy and Martin, I don't think I can truly pick ten so I'll just pick ten OF my faves.

    Ozzy
    Black Sabbath
    N.I.B.
    Planet Caravan
    Hand of Doom
    Sweet Leaf
    Children of the Grave
    Wheels of Confusion
    Who Are You?
    Symptom of the Universe
    Junior's Eyes

    Dio
    Neon Knights
    Children of the Sea
    Heaven and Hell
    Turn Up the Night
    The Mob Rules
    Computer God
    TV Crimes
    I
    Fear
    Rock and Roll Angel

    Martin
    The Shining
    Ancient Warrior
    Glory Ride
    Eternal Idol
    Black Moon (Eternal Idol version)
    Anno Mundi
    Cross of Thorns
    Psychophobia
    Virtual Death
    Immaculate Deception

To safeguard my philosophy until my dying breath
I transfer from reality into a living dead
I empathize with enemies until we’re dying right
With God and Satan at my side, from darkness will come light
