Hey RLP4ever, we got ourselves another Thrash/Speed Metal fan here.

With that out of the way, I like to say welcome to the bands, and man, that's an impressive list you got there. I myself like the "big 4" (Anthrax, Megadeth, Metallica, and Slayer), but have heard some stuff here and there from your list, like Voivod's cover of Pink Floyd's Astronomy Domine. I'm very happy that out of the big four, Megadeth is your favorite with your liking of the whole catalog, which over the years, have very different eras (Roots, commercial, back to their roots). I'm guessing you're bit disapointed with Metallica's Death Magnetic? Well for me, it's not that essential, but I can see why. Again, welcome to the boards.

    Thank you!
Metallica was really important band in my life,I started to listen to rock music with them,Sabbath and Motorhead, but when I discovered the after '88 albums I was really disappointed.I do not like the black album. In fact,it has some good riffs and songs but,"the jump" is too big to me.I mean...you cannot put it after And Justice...,which is such a great, cold, technical album.I even do not wanna talk about the Load/Reload albums, which are fuckin' country music....Played by the MOST POPULAR METAL BAND!?!?No thanks.
St Anger is so wrong....the drums are terrifying,James simply cannot sing anymore...there were no guitar solos....
Death Magnetic is good in a way that it's made in the right way,but still...This band is lost forever. They've become a pop icons, instead of mythical metal legends. My opinion.
Megadeth are my second favorite band(of course the Sabb's are N1).Dave also commercialized his music, but he did it in a way, that you can sense the unique Megadeth sound and feeling in all of his albums, even in the AOR oriented Risk. The last two studio albums(The System and United) are so fuckin' great.Dave is eternal!

I can say that there are a lot of bands which are better that those who are most popular in thrash scene. The underground is a mine.
As an example you can take Coroner, who are classic technical progressive thrash band from Switzerland. They are insane. One of the most genius bands ever existed.
I salute you with two of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GV_S-HMdJaI & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4q_e1Qqb6m0

I'll be happy to talk with you about the mid 80's classic stuff - thrash, speed, power etc...
I can say that in my collection there are only great bands, many of them forgotten and underrated.

P.S.Excuse me for my english, which is not really good! :(

^^ ..yeah, 8bit, why do you think I jumped right in straight-away when I noticed this.. And he's calling himself Thrasher, no less..

A very warm welcome to you ThrasherBG..You are already seeing, on this page on your thread, two big-time, thrill-seeking thrash-speed metal freaks, i.e 8bit Fighter and myself, here on this fantastic board of Sabbath and rock-metal fans, of all types. You obviously ain't no pushover when it comes to snapping such a sizeable and impressive thrash classic collection. As a fellow thrash freak, I'm proud of you, buddy. From your list, I reckon I've got about 60% of those albums, myself. It's incredible that you actually OWN---not merely heard of----so many tons of thrash bands and albums. Of the rest off your list, I'd love to seek and buy many of the discs I still don't have, and there are some bands here that I honestly haven't even heard of. And there are some bands that I have in my collection that I don't see here. Either way, thrash never got 'old' for me. I owe thrash/speed metal a huge thank-you for being my first, true, terrific gateway into all the 'extreme' metal that I otherwise love and listen to the most. *And hey, Thrasher, your English is just fine. So speak your mind, whenever you wanna.

When I was 11 years old my father bought me Exodus's "Bonded By Blood" and then it all started! :D

The reason why you do not see some bands in my collection is that I own only music that I really like and I listen to.I've listened twice more bands that those in my collection(even bands with only demos) but these are the ones which I like, love and listen. You cannot like everything.
Here in Bulgaria(perhaps you know an ex-communistic country) we all like thrash metal, cause when the communists fell down, the first real metal band that played around was Sodom (back in 1991,legendary concert which the band say it's their best). \,,/

I think that there are a lot of great band which didn't became famous,'couse of their roughness and aggression, but the good music is good music.
I really love progressive-technical-thrash bands like Coroner,Anacrusis,Believer etc. - they are unique and they've made music that's like no other.

P.S.Great signature, for shame of my nickname I love INXS and Michael!

Hats off to your dad for having both the head and the heart to make such a great choice of metal for his junior. If only more dads were like that. Mine wasn't. And I had to bump into my first metal courtesy my metal-loving older sister. My first love bite of thrash was most probably Anthrax's Fistful of Metal...For me, there was, as the saying goes, no looking back, from then on.

Oh mate, you're pretty bang on correct about that. I mean, it's actually always been much the same for me. I've long gotten rid of almost all the albums I realised I simply did not like or just stopped caring about. Besides, I have intentionally NOT bought many albums that I was certain that I didn't even feel like listening to or had slim chances of ever enjoying. Today, I'm completely one and the same with you about how I only own albums that I really love and wanna listen to, from time to time. And yet this still means that I have approximately 800 metal albums in my personal collection, while I have obviously heard way more bands and albums. Haven't we all, to varying extents??...And oh, you bet 'you cannot like everything'...I hope you/I never do.

Sure I know about Bulgaria. Real pity that I've been to Poland and Hungary before, but never to Romania, the Czech Republic or Bulgaria, yet. I hope someday, I'd be able to stand in some concert venue, on a cold winter day, in Bucharest, and enjoy watching with young Bulgarian metal maniacs, some hot-shot thrash acts make the skies rattle over us.

Oh, absolutely. There's gotta be very many bands that didn't quite 'make it' or get all the attention or praise they deserved, for several different reasons, not the least of which might be the overly aggressive and abrasive attitude and sound to their all-round cool metal music that somehow failed to crack the odds stacked against it in the time, place, people circumstances surrounding it, at the time.

Yup, Coroner and Believer were extremely good. I've never heard of Anacrusis. Wonder what you think of acts like Akercocke, or modern masterclass acts like Evile or Funerot or The Furor. There's obviously more, but like you said, you can't like everything. But when they are really THAT good, you should. But again, I gotta say, Thrasher, YOUR LIST, earlier, is about as cool and complete a run-down of quality, classic thrash as any individual thrash-mad fan can hope to 'hear' OR 'buy' and 'own' for himself.

And as for my sig, Michael had said it, he meant it, and he was quite right, to a great extent, especially in the context he had made that statement. And yea, I love INXS and Michael (RIP)...And Michael always had tons of really cuttingly funny, sincere, memorably true things to say.

Ohh,yeah!Hail to your sister! \,,/ The classic Anthrax is such a great piece of the history. One of the biggest bands od the 80's.I cannot listen to them after the break-up with Belladona. He gives Anthrax something unique.

You MUST find Anacrusis's Manic Impressions (1991) and Screams And Whispers (1993).If you cannot find the albums, contact me on the skype. One of the best and most unique albums in metal history.I swear. :D

Akercocke are good, but I prefere Obliveon, pretty much the band that influenced 'em,except the black metal waves in their music.Obliveon is one of the best death/prog metal bands, they are from Canada.Of the so called New Wave OF Thrash Metal ,the really great thing is called Violator from Brazil.Their album Chemical Assault (2006) has place in the 80's.It's unbelieveble.
Other good bands are Toxic Holocaust(last year's album was in my top 3 ) and Dekapitatorwith their second release The Storm Before the Calm (2007).Evile is too Metallica to me. Good but not great.

Oh yes, my sister (just three years older than me) is the original metal maiden extraordinaire. She listens to loads of all kinds of music, but is very clued into the extreme metal scene and digs lots of extreme music a whole lot. Not nearly as prolifically as me, but plenty enough for an average girl. Oh no, but she was never any ordinary girl... Of course, we often have our differences and opinionated arguments about specific bands and albums, but I owe her a fair fraction of my gratitude for leading me to awesome early-Anthrax. And yeah, like you, I have always strongly, by far, preferred the Belladonna-era Anthrax. Joey was no great shakes as lead singer, but I also agree, and have sometimes pointed out in different forums, how he is a 'unique' act and seemed to me to be seamlessly, uncannily synonymous with Anthrax---the natural, familiar VOICE accompanying the terrific thrash music in that original era.

I'm sure I'm gonna have to find Anacrusis and check them out really soon. The name sounds like as if they could be from Greece (are they?)---a country that has spawned quite a few very impressive metal acts. And I'm only assuming that they are full-throttle thrash, and not some hybrid of styles. In any case, I will seek their albums out. I have never heard Obliveon before, so they are another band I'd be interested to seriously sample. It's just that the 'prog' tag normally makes me really leery and apathetic about metal bands. I know what genuinely, overly 'prog' metal usually involves and I'm never quite happy with the results. And while I can take certain elements of 'progressive' styles in my metal, I really only can take so much. Just got a low threshold for overt, high melodicism and 'prog' standards, that's all. I know of Violator, but haven't heard a full album yet. They sound superb and have been on my wish list for a while. Time to act on that, without delay. Gosh, Brazil sure has partial bragging rights to more than just beautiful babes and beaches and champion football sides; they have also spawned some very talented and cool metal bands, over the years. Have you heard of their death metal legends, Krisiun? Toxic Holocaust are definitely an impressive act, though their black-metallish styles don't sound convincing and I'm very fussy about bm, anyway. Excepting their second album, I think I've got everything, including their superb release of '08.... Curious to hear that you find Evile "too Metallica"..Really? I just think they sound a rather more original, fresh, and exciting bunch among the new hotshots in thrash. Because you and I are hardly alone in feeling that a clear majority of 'new', contemporary thrash metal bands just don't cut it much. I guess most die-hard thrash fans of all the exhilarating thrash metal of the '80s and scattered randomly throughout the '90s can near-unanimously testify that those years, by far, yielded the strongest, best, most memorable thrash metal, to date. And I think Warbringer are alright and decent. Again, like most new thrashers, they oughta be a lot better. If only they seriously wanted to and tried. However, I love a classy act like Dew-Scented a lot.

My silly mistake....I got carried away with my talk of the Eastern European countries and for a second I was probably thinking of the famous, once-powerful Romanian football club, Steaua Bucharest, and carelessly put it down as the capital of Bulgaria, instead. Thanks for the cool vid. With a name that sounds more like they could be some melodic-dm band, it comes as a refreshing surprise and relief to discover that these guys actually play proper, brutal-dm---which has forever been my own favourite metal, especially the American Brutal-tech Death Metal. Enthrallment will stay on my mind, next time I go looking for stuff to check out and buy. Poland's heavy-hitting representative like Vader, Decapitated, Behemoth are all too well-known and admired. Time to search for more out of Central/Eastern Europe. Man, I may have shiploads of metal albums that I adore, but I'm constantly lusting for more.....So much fantastic metal left to discover and love...So little time...

Joey is a singer, that's the difference between him nad the other thrash metal vocalists at that time (like Tom Araya as an example ).He is singing and that makes Anthrax's music really memorable, unique. My favorite album is "Persistence Of Time" - dark, aggressive and heavy.

No,Anacrusis are form USA,and they are not classic thrash metal, they are unique!Just like Coroner or Mekong Delta. They have their own style. They have 4 albums: Suffering Hour (1988), Reason (1990),Manic Impressions (1991) & Screams and Whispers (1993).The first two are more like technical thrash metal, a little bit bad produced, but still great. The last 2 are just phenomenal.Masterpieces! Check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOcBKfZXSdc & http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXNPb...eature=related
When I say "prog" I mean that the band composes it's music in unorthodox way ,not the Dream Theater way! :D
The same is for Obliveon, they are one of the most influential bands.
    From their debut: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9091PHVMjeo
From their second and my favorite album : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dXXAmlAI3Q (I bet you will open a beer after that one )

Have you heard of their death metal legends, Krisiun?
Yeah,I've watched Krisiun live in Bulgaria, they are not human beings. They are aliens! :D My favorite album is AssassiNation - really underrated one.
You should find Violator, and then you'll understand why I do not like most of the new thrash bands. The production is like in the 80's and they're not fuckin' around. The make thrash man, that's a serious diagnosis!!

I do not like that "fresh" thing on that bands. As I said before: good but not great.Of course this is my personal opinion.
You should hear one thrash metal band (from the late 90's),it's called Cranium and they are from Sweeden.Sick people. \,,/

Thrasher, it's just great to have such an intense fan with such a massive exposure to and knowledge of the thrash metal universe.

Yeah, you make a good point about Joey's greater emphasis on a more traditional type of metal 'singing' as opposed to the harsher, more aggressive shouting, screaming, snarling styles of fellow thrash vocalists (yes, Tom Araya included-good example)...It's just that Joey would drift into too much of a melodic style of singing (sometimes bordering on the singy-songy power metallish sort of way) for my tastes and wasn't exactly a terrific live performer, a lot of the time. Anthrax often seemed to badly need a more aggressive singer with a more powerful stage presence...But then like I said, and countless other fans will too, Joey was just oozing with charisma of a different kind and his voice seemed to be almost custom-made for the bouncy, adventurous, multi-faceted, yet heavy and intense thrash that Anthrax were delivering in torrents, during their peak, at the time. Joey and Anthrax are like siamese twins joined at the hip...I was sort of hoping for his comeback, reunion with the band for a few final hurrahs. Alas, it was not to be, and we're saddled with a guy on vocals, that I have next to nothing good to hope for.

Thanks for the helpful links to sample Anacrusis. I really like Mekong Delta that you cited here. I've always enjoyed quality 'technical-thrash', not a commonplace style ever. That's how a classy bunch like Sadus, with mainly their first three albums, never ceased to amaze and thrill me with their infectiously fun tech-thrash virtuosity. Anacrusis sure sounds like the finished article and I'm gonna buy their albums.

Ok, good that you clarified your point about the "prog" metal you talked of earlier. That's why I had explained my own understanding of and attitude toward the adjective when conventionally applied to metal bands. On too many occasions, 'prog' is just a polite euphemism for pussy metal... Haha, I love your reference to Dream Theatre here. That's the kind of 'progressive' plagiarists, fucking travelling tribute act and annoying retards that make me feel like spitting choice expletives at their most vocal fans.

Wow, Krisiun's been to Bulgaria. Lucky you! I sadly missed out on their last awesome shows here in Australia a few years ago. I was holed up in Korea, at the time. And, there's no doubt I'd be grabbing me some Violator really soon. Thrasher, although I listen to my favourite thrash discs pretty frequently, your arrival here just revved up my appetite for diving right into more and more thrash delights I haven't savoured yet.

Btw, I wonder if you're much into punk/hardcore, grindcore music. I AM...up to my nose You're dealing with an incorrigible extremist here.

    About Anthrax and Joey:

After all,the most important is the way that the band sounds with him - unique.Maybe John Bush is better singer than him, maybe Joey cannot make the "true" fans happy, but I don't care.Hey,Dio can sing better than Ozzy, but I prefer Ozzy!Anthrax is Anthrax with Joey and their reunion showed it to the whole world.Alive 2 is incredible!

    About Anacrusis,Mekog Delta etc.:

Anacrusis is magic. If you find and buy their albums, you will not regret. They're all great, and different - each one of the albums has its sound, and the more you listen to it,the more you are goin crazy 'bout it.The rerelease of the debut includes N.I.B cover, which is really strange and beautiful.
Mekong Delta are one of my favorite bands, what do you think about their reunion album?I think is amazing!I salute you with my fav song of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cxPb...eature=related (amazing song!)

About Dream Theater and the proggers:

I love the real progressive music.Like King Crimson,or Van Der Graaf Generator. As you said Theater are "traveling tribute band".
There are a lot of great prog metal bands, but they all make their music in unique way, they're not combing all type of sounds. As an exaple I can give my all-time favorite album - Crimson Glory's Transcendence (1988).Pure magic.

    About the concerts in Bulgaria:

Many of the bands come to my country, because as I told you,we have crazy metalheads(remember the Sodom gig that I told you about).I have watched so many of the biggest and my fav bands here - Black Sabbath with Ozzy,Heaven And Hell etc.
The fans in Bulgaria are one of the best, the only fans that I can say that are more insane than us are the brazillians! :D Lst year Manowar made a Guiness record - the longest gig in history - 5 hours and a half non stop playing in front of 50 000 fans,it was fuckin boring hahaha!I don't like Manowar.

    About the punk etc. :

Dead Kennedys are one of my favorite bands. They are genius!Lyrics,riffs...I like The Misfits, but I'm not really into classic punk(like Ramones,Sex Pistols,The Exploited etc.).It just don't catch me that much. But Dead Kennedys are ... i have no words.

    About the grind:

I like some old-school grindcore bands like Repulsion,Naplam Death(watched 'em live twice - Barny is a monster),Carcass(I like everything they've done, one of the best bands of all time),Terrorrizer,Nasum.I like the classic stuff in death metal and grind. Not really into Gorerotted or any of the popular grind bands.Duying Fetus are good.
But we can discuss that at the death/black metal thread.

Thats quite a list Thrasher. Glad to see Blind Illusion made it there, amongst the others.
Such an under rated band! I wish they would have continued longer. Also glad to see a fellow Vio-Lence fan. Easily my favorite of all the 80's S.F. bay bands. Also Num Skull who were a GREAT Thrash/Death metal band. I don't see their final release When Suffering Comes on your list. It's a little different then Ritually Abused, much more of a technical Death Metal but good nontheless. Also I see a lot of Helstar missing from your list. Thats a band that seems to continue to deliver great power/thrash.

Also I agree with you as far as Warbringer and most of these newer Thrash bands. I think they have the look & even the production sounds old school in some cases. But the attiude is missing.

Blind Illusion is amazing band, criminally underrated!"The Sane Asylum" is such a great piece of the history. It shows how the music should be made.Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold should hear this album.
I did not enjoyed the last Num Skull album, but I wil give it annother try. You're right about Hellstar,it seems that I have forgot to add the albums to the list.I agree with you, that they are one of the few old bands that are still doing it right.

Anthrax and Slayer (both have great drummers) never did it for me of the "Big 4" and while I went through an intense Metallica phase, my listening to them has faded. I like the Black Album back to Kill 'em All.

Megadeth is my most liked of the big starters, I think they get better as they go despite a couple bumps and live enjoyed them most of the 4 (seen all). Mustaine may have a personality problem with constant line-up changes, but his sound/style fit my taste almost perfect.

Metal Church is a big favorite since they started, "Present Wasteland" is not on the CD list and is the best among their more recent CDs. Their stuff with Wayne is near perfect and I count the single "Wayne" CD as a must have.

Didn't see Metalium on the lists either. They're impressive live.

    Hello metalheads!
I have updated my collection list (the first post in this topic).
You can check it out and if there is some bands that you're looking for I'll be glad to help you find it.
I'll be happy if you wanna discuss some of our favorite classic 80's metal!

P.S. "Just me", you do not see Metalium in the list and they are not the only ones.Actually I collect only bands that I like, I love to listen to music and I do it all the time.Metallium, Cranium and many more are not on the list, they're good bands, but I cannot like everything, right?
