I actually don't mind the production and mixing that much. It has a raw power to it. In a way it reminds me of the early Sabbath albums.

Count me in too. Forbidden is ALOT better than those stupid critics make it sound.

I'm in! I can't understand why peopel hate it so much, it's a great album (of course, what Black Sabbath album isn't great?). I had no problem with the production either.

I've weighed in on this in the past. Go read my review of the album on the site's discography page.

Every time I listen the song Forbidden, I start to think that Tony Martin wrote the lyricks for Tony Iommi. I bet that Iommi was always telling "You can't do that" and the lyricks were Tony Martin's revange :-).

    There's a Forbidden fan club??

The album isn't bad, but it isn't all that good, either. It's OK. I just wish Iommi had kept Bobby Rondinelli around for that one.

Never did find out why he left towards the end of the CP tour. That's one of the few bits of the band's history that is unknown to me.

When I saw them on the CP tour in L.A./Hollywood Rondinelli was an absolute beast on the drums. He was such a perfect fit for the band, it made no sense to let him go. Cozy Powell was very, very good, but Rondinelli was and is great.

I remember an interview with Rondinelli where he said that, at the end of the tour, his then manager tried to renegociate his contract with Iommi without asking Bobby about it. Apparently, Tony wanted to keep Rondinelli but the manager asked for so much more money that Tony decided to let Bobby go. When Bobby knew about this and fired his manager, it was already too late.

And when the offer to play festivals in South America came on the table, Iommi and Geezer tought it would be a great opportunity to reunite the original line up. They started rehearsing with Bill and Ozzy but, right before signing the contracts, Ozzy decided he wouldn't do it and left. Tony Martin stepped in his place and so the Iommi / Martin / Butler / Ward line-up toured for the South American dates (I got this second part from an interview with Bill Ward).

Bill was supposed to stay for the following record but things didn't work out. He and Geezer left and were replaced by Neil Murray and Cozy Powell. When Cozy left during the "Forbidden" tour, Rondinelli had had the opportunity to explain what had happened in 1994 to Tony Iommi and so Tony hired him back.

    Hope this helps

Tony Iommi Fact #216: In fact, most demolition companies don’t use explosives to collapse buildings, only a good stereo and a copy of “Dehumanizer”.

    Wait, wait...

    So, let's debate THIS part:

So what you are saying is that there was ANOTHER "you are fired" chapter on Tony Martin history on Sabbath? I mean, if they rehearsed with Tony there are only two scenarios:
    1) They did it behind Tony's back
    2) They fired him and then hired him back.

If the first scenario was the case then, well, what douches for treating TM that way!!!

Yeah, it really seems like Iommi didn't believe in what he and Martin had created towards the end of the 80s... Imo what they created in Headless Cross and TYR was the only possible stable future for them, it wasn't any new version of the old band, it was a new band. I just wish Dehumanizer never had happened... I wish Iommi had changed the name of the band, as it turned out Geezer had a saying in whether the TYR line-up should live or not... As much as I love the Mob Rules line up and the 70s line up imo they had their time and it is a shame that no one wanted to accept that and give the new band the credit they deserved. Nothing bad about Dehumanizer, CP or Forbidden, all INCREDIBLE albums, but imo not much compared to what I imagine could have been.

Just got this album from a friends girlfriend of all people. Great album, it seems every Tony Martin album I hear I always think this is his best album to just go re-listen to a previous one and think the same thing all over again. The songs are great, I like Illusion of Power, takes a few listens but the Chorus is so powerful, and Ice T's contribution is kind of cool and I hate rap, but he's not rapping, just doing some spoken word. His demonic backing vocals are cool too, an easy effect but cool nonetheless. Damn, I need to make a cover of this song.

Some of the choruses on the backside of songs go on forever, could have trimmed some songs a bit but thats pretty minor when all you have to do is hit next when you've got enough of the song. The riffs are powerful and hard hitting, the vocals and drums are fantastic. Crappy cover art but I live by the don't judge a book by its cover mantra.

Don't understand how people have issues with the production, sounds modern to me. I like how it sounds. It's not muddy at all.

Only song on the album I would call somewhat lacking is Shaking Off The Chains, the riff and song are too choppy sounding.

Illusion of Power- Very Cool Song, great riff. Powerful Chorus. Probably should have gone with a different song to open the album though.

Get a Grip- Another really good song, the riff and drums are rockin. Martin is top notch as always. Love the message.

Can't Get Close Enough- At first it bugged me a bit with the way it opens. But it grows on you. By the time it starts rockin the song takes off.

Shaking Off The Chains- Has some cool lead lines in it. The song's main riff is rather choppy though. Don't really care for the monotonous vocals over it either. Some parts of the song are far superior to others. Alright song, but worst off of the album.

I Won't Cry For You- Reminds me of something that could have been on Cross Purposes. Kind of gets old towards the end of the song with all the chorus till the end stuff in the two minutes. Cool song, but would have been better had it faded out after the solo.

Guilty as Hell- Great riff. Just a really solid song.

Sick and Tired- I'm sure this is a song all of us can relate to at least at some point in our lives. Great riff as well. Fantastic song. Kind of has an 80's vibe at points but I don't mind that. I like a lot of music from the 80's.

Rusty Angels- Great uptempo song. Think its really cool, the solo is smoking too. Love the lyrics.

Forbidden- Truly great riffing. Lyrics are great. Chorus kind of bugged me a bit in the beggining but it grew on me.

Kiss of Death- Possibly the best song on the album. Great tune. Love how it changes up in the bridge of the song. The could've kept this going for another 5 mins and I'd have been fine with it.
