Ronnie, you were a one of a kind person who never had a bad word for anyone and always cared about everyone around you, as well as being able to blow everyone's minds with your awesome singing. You will be sorely missed, but your music will live on for an eternity. RIP Legend.

The Man on The Silver Mountain has passed...........his music has been a part of my life since 1978.
I first saw him in concert in 1980, I last saw him (and got to meet him) in 2009. I raise my glass to my favorite singer of all time and a true gentleman.

    RIP RONNIE

16th of May is my birthday, I was having a great time today, I`d played The devil you know twice. To my eternal dismay, I discovered that Ronnie had died this morning leaving the world of rock music with a gaping chasm to fill. Where ever you are Ronnie, Heaven or Hell, long live rock n roll, and your memory. Thank you for so much.

This is a sad day indeed. I've been listing to Ronnie's voice since I was a kid. Whether it was in Sabbath, Rainbow, or solo he had one of the most amazing and talented voices in the music world. There is now a void, and no one can really compare to this master that's been with us for countless decades.

I hope he'll still be busy rocking Heaven and Hell now! R.I.P.

    RIP - Ronnie James Dio

I salute you, the King of Rock N' Roll

I am deeply saddened today at this news. I was in shock last night seeing the rumor, then waking up this morning and seeing it was just a rumor, he was alive but in very serious condition.

Been working around the house all day listening to Rainbow/Sabbath/Dio. Came in to clean up and have dinner. Looked at my e-mail and saw the e-mail from Joe. Overcome with sadness. Cancer sucks, and is a terrible disease.

I thank Ronnie, Tony, Geezer and Vinnie for setting aside their differences and making TDYK. Heaven and Hell are my favorite Sabbath line-up, and it is an awesome "swan song" for Ronnie. I have been very fortunate that I was able to see them play 6 times since they re-grouped, and 3 of them in an 8 day time frame last summer, capping it off with the final show in Atlantic City, NJ.

Ronnie is now "Breaking into Heaven," and it is quite a bit louder there today, as the voice of metal has gone home.

    RIP RJD

"A Rumble OF Thunder, I'm Suddenly Under Your Spell"

These were the first words I ever heard Ronnie sing. And the quote is autobiographical.
I became a fan of his from the first time I heard him. While I'll admit to not liking every DIO album, I always thought he was in a class by himself in terms of his talent.

Thanks Ronnie for all the music you've given the world.

My thoughts are with his family & bandmates today. This is not going to be an easy thing for them to get over.

Truly a sad day. I never met RJD, but to say he was a big part of my life because of his amazing talent would be an understatement. The world has lost a legend today. RIP Ronnie! You will be missed.

This hurts. It seems like our heroes will live forever. At least, Dio's voice can still fill me when I'm empty, lift me when I'm down...

I've said this since 1980... no one sings metal better than Dio. And he was a better fit for Iommi & Co. than Ozzy ever was.

I've been listening to TDYK for the past few minutes.

I shed a tear for him and his bandmates.

Today, we mourn the voice of metal.

Rest In Peace, Ronnie James Dio.

    Just saw the official news.

    Absolutely devestating.

Ronnie James Dio - musical legend, R.I.P.

I think I'll have a chat to mates of mine in town to see if we can play a tribute show to Ronnie in the future, to remember him, his music and how he has touched the lives of so many of us here and elsewhere.

    \m/

Thank you Ronnie for all the inspiration and wonderful music in my life for the past 25 years - there will never be another one like you - you really were the Last in Line.

Terrible news. Put me in a real melancholy today that will linger for awhile.

But I am glad he is no longer in pain.

And, as a poster put it, he can take his place on the Silver Mountain, in the pantheon of Heavy Metal GODS. That voice is legendary and will never pass away.

My prayers and thoughts to his family and friends and to my fellow Dio fans.

Gonna be playing Dio's music all night tonight.

    "Here's to you!"

I broke down and cried today. I don't remember when the last time it was that I cried. He shouldn't have died. He wasn't supposed to. He was supposed to put out another album, and tour, and make more amazing music with the greatest band of all time... But all that is dust and ashes now. I don't know what to say. I don't even know what to do right now.

I'm sure Dio's up there, in the great gig in the sky, slaying dragons and riding rainbows. He was an amazing man, a humble man, and an amazing vocalist. You can't knock him for anything. He deserves the most respect in the world. RIP, Ronnie. You'll be missed, for as long as I walk this earth.

    Goodnight, sweet prince.

This took some time to sink in with me. But I'm just floored right now. I had to run around earlier today and knowing that he was in a bad way with his cancer, I popped "Heaven and Hell" into my CD player. My favorite album of his. One that got me through some tough times. I have been listening to "Mob Rules" and "Dehumanizer" after coming home. I feel like crying a little here. At the same time, I feel so lucky that I got to see Heaven and Hell last August at Red Rocks. It was a relatively short show, but it more than made up for that in the quality of the setlist and the music. Dio was undeniably energetic during that show. I'm so glad I was there to see it. To me, it was incredible. All of the members were. But Dio's energy was extremely dynamic. Rest In Peace RJD. Hope you enjoy Rock & Roll Heaven.

I've given so much income to this man, and he was worth every penny. The Heaven and Hell shows I've seen are great memories.

And I thought he was going to be ok...

Default We just lost the nicest guy in metal.

This is one of the saddest and worst days in heavy metal and for all music. We just lost the nicest guy in all of metaldom, a devastating blow to all of us here in the Heavy Metal Community. I am completely devastated, in shock, and disbelief that we have lost such a great guy and great vocalist. I am thankful and grateful to have had the golden opportunity to see Dio live on five occasions. I regret missing half of Heaven and Hell's set back in 2009 because I was late but I am still glad that I made it to see Ronnie one last time, although I wish that there had been many more afterward. Ronnie James Dio will always be my number one favorite singer, no one else will have that spot and no one will ever replace him and his work will never be complete. I was confident that Dio was going to beat cancer but cancer truly sucks as it has robbed us of the people that we were close to rather they were our family members, close friends, or our favorite musicians. We all need to pray for Dio and most importantly, keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. He still lives on in us and he would appreciate it if we remember the good things about him, pray for him and his family, and remember who we are and be proud. Thank you Ronnie for all the great times I had listening to your music and seeing your shows. You will be missed.

When I first read the news in the morning, it was like a sucker punch. And then it was said that it wasn't true, and I breathed a sigh of relief wondering how some joker could post such horrible news. Then a few hours later, I saw Joe's posting (from Pilgrims of Sabbocracy) and I thought, "Oh no! It's really true."

It's been such a sad day today. I've been playing Rainbow's Live in Munich 1977 DVD. I've had the pleasure of seeing Ronnie live several times and it was always a treat. He loved his audience and had such a gifted voice to share with us. His spirit rests with God now, and his memories with us.

This song will always remind me of his glory. Ronnie's finally caught the rainbow and sailed away on ships of wonder.

Like everybody else here I am deeply saddened by Ronnie's death. I still can't believe it. Obviously I didn't know the man personally but Ronnie and his music have been such a fixture in my life for the past 30 years, with very few days in that time period in which I didn't listen to at least one RJD song. In fact it was just about 30 years ago when I first put the Heaven and Hell record on my turntable, not knowing what the hell to expect, and on came Neon Knights and then Children of the Sea, and I was fucking hypnotized and mesmerized and simply just blown away, becoming an instant fan, and have remained one ever since. I'm just so thankful and grateful that Ronnie rejoined Tony, Geezer and Vinny back in 2007 and gave us so many more thrilling moments these past couple years.

    Default Words can't express...

...words cant express what I feel right now...didnt know where else to go....Ronnie James Dio....second concert I ever saw in 9/27/1985 in Charlotte, NC...last saw him in Boston 8/28/2009, and man was he, and the rest of Sabbath, on top of their game. One concert in particular in Charlotte, around 1997, 1998 there werent more than 200 people in the crowd, and he made a point to say...it doesnt matter there's not many people here, what matters is, YOU are here. Swear he made eye contact with everyone and just gave the show of a lifetime.

RIP Ronnie James Dio....the legend. \m/

Last night, as I was preparing to go to sleep I had the same question I face every night; what to listen to? I crash out to music every night and lately I have been drifting off to some mellow music. Last night I saw one of the playlists in my iTunes called: Rules Of Hell. I clicked on that and went to bed.

When I awoke this morning the strains of Children Of The Sea greeted me. When I finally made it to the computer one of the first things I saw was: RIP Ronnie James Dio. I sat there for a moment, in some sort of shock while Sign Of The Southern Cross blasted through the speakers. Upon investigation I saw that it was just a rumor... but that Ronnie was not well.

I first became aware of Ronnie at the age of 15... when Heaven And Hell was released. The album was an instant classic. Mot of the kids at school loved that band. I remember the Black & Blue tour. I remember the way Dio's singing made me feel all those years ago. I was overjoyed when they recorded new music for The Dio Years and was absolutely floored when they reunited as Heaven & Hell.

Rock & Roll lost a great one today. Thank you Ronnie for the memories and the great music. And thank you for being a wonderful example of the human spirit. Everyone who came in contact w/ you said the same thing: That you were a genuinely nice and caring person. You exuded class - be it on the stage or off.

    You will be missed...

I was surprised and saddened to hear this news.
To Ronnie's family and friends (if they read this), my condolences.

I have been listening to Dio's solo material, as well as his work with Sabbath, Rainbow, and Elf for nearly thirty years. His voice was part of the soundtrack of my life, and the world is a better place because he was here. I never met him, but I feel like I have lost a friend today - and I hope he is in a better place.

Don't know what to type. Just still in a state of shock. Glad you are all here, writing your thoughts and reading mine. We are all hurt, the greater Sabbath family.

I passed on my love for Dio to my kids, who are also upset over the news. I have been listening to a lot of Dio lately, and my younger son (14) said to me this evening. It's really weird how much you have been listening to Dio's music. Now granted, I am a huge fan, but it has been almost non-stop Elf/Rainbow/Dio/Sabbath at my house for the past few days. I did not know what to say to him. I just told him I really wanted to listen to Dio's music.

    RIP RJD

I didn't want to believe it. The only time I've been as affected by the death of someone I never met was when Cliff Burton passed away.

Dio's singing has lifted my spirit for over a quarter of a century now. He was, still is and WILL REMAIN a part of my life. In the good and the bad times, music is like oxygen for me. And Ronnie was one of my favorite singers and songwriters. He collaborated with great artists and made them even better.

My favorite Ronnie moment will be forever the first Heaven and Hell tour, when they were in Montreal. This has to be one of the best concerts, if not THE best, I ever attended. To see a guy in his 60s in such shape and delivering hits after hits with intensity and passion was awe-inspiring. Being in my mid-30s and in some kind of life crisis, it lifted my spirit tremendously and made me start singing again (I had stopped 10 years earlier).

My deepest sympathies to your loved ones and friends. Thank you Ronnie, for being one of my greatest heroes and inspiration. You will live on forever, through the amazing music and performances you gave us all.

Like a rainbow in the dark.

I'm not a regular poster here anymore, but as soon as I heard the news, this is the first place I came. I figured I'd come back to post my condolences here. Unfortunately, though unsurprisingly, the forums were down. So I am just making it here now.

This is truly a devastating loss. Dio had what I would say is one of the most unique voices in metal, or even in music in general. When Dio got together with Tony and Geezer for Heaven & Hell to tour, I was pretty excited. I'm glad they got an album out and a tour or two before this tragedy. I think that this helps us as Sabbath fans, as we are not left so much to wonder what would have been if Dio reuinted with the guys. So I take this as some comforting, but nonetheless this is a tragedy.

Part of me wonders if this will have any affect on Ozzy's position in joining with Sabbath again. But I doubt anything will come from it.

RIP Ronnie James Dio. Your music will live forever in our hearts.
