Now its Heaven And Hell - The Sign Of The Southern Cross live in Bournemouth UK, the last date of the 2007 tour.
The Sign is one of the best songs in the entire catalog of Black Sabbath, the riff is just beyond brilliant, and Geezers Bass line is pure perfection....and the lyrics...awesome.

"The consequence of conscience/Is that you'll be left somewhere/Swinging in the air"-Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) R.I.P. King Of Metal
"Just take a look around you what do you see/Pain, suffering, and misery/It's not the way that the world was planned/It's a pity you don't understand" - Geezer Butler
"If god is in heaven/How can this happen here" - Phil Lynott (1949-1986)
i just put on the dio years collection and let it play really..
plus stargazer, long live rock n roll and holy diver... :(
It's kinda weird... the evening of 15 May I went to sleep and as I always crash to music I was looking through my playlists on iTunes trying to decide what to crash to that night. I chose a list titled: Rules Of Hell. It's Sabbath/Dio from all four albums and when I awoke the next morning I was greeted w/ Children Of The Sea... not a bad way to wake up.
After waking up though I saw the news about Ronnie. At first it was false, but the outlook wasn't too good. As the day dragged on the word was confirmed that he was gone. Since then I haven't listened to anything Dio related... just a little too much, if you know what I mean.
Finally, today, I am listening to Dio and still just in awe of his gifts. Bible Black and Follow The Tears from TDYK just rock, but now I am listening to Dehumanizer. This album is such a favorite of mine. So many great tracks...
Computer God - After All {The Dead} - Sins Of The Father - Too Late - I - Buried Alive
Coming here and reading everyone's thoughts makes this time a little easier.
Let me go I've found addiction
And it makes me feel alive...
+ Take me back +
I must have the Bible Black...
Ah, the sweet bluesy waves...with Dio in my ears I can see the deep blue starlit sky through those bleak clouds of rain...
The Elves - You Shook Me-Rocks Boogie

Streetwalker, sweet talker...Ronnie James Dio, you've been so good to me...
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
I got around to Angry Machines and now it's the touching ballad This Is Your Life...
The only Dio song (perhaps one of the only songs Ronnie's ever been involved with) that does not have a guitar on it, just Ronnie and Scott... A pure Ballad, something that, I remember when I first heard it, is totally different, never thought Dio would do anything like this. So beautiful and so full of emotion. This song actually reminds me of some of nice ballads on Savatage's Streets album...If Jon and Ronnie would have ever shared a stage together this would have been a great song for them to play together.
A really touching song that again has found a whole new meaning...
-Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper. Oh how I need to be free of this pain but it goes over and over and over again-

I've been listening to Dio in his pre-Elf days (or, at least, pre-officially released Elf days).
In case no one has come across these before, they are definitely worth a listen. Here's the link:
http://www.padavona.com/mp3.html
For the last 8 days it's been all Elf and Rainbow for me...
Now that I remember it: the last Dio-esque song that I heard while Dio was still alive was "Stargazer", it was played through the house PA back at our local music venue on Saturday night the 15th.
Stargazer...
...one of the icons of Dio and all of heavy metal.
I can't believe the majesty of Dio's singing on this song, it's just so beyond & above anything that some other rock vocalist could ever do...This song is older than me and after 34 years of rock music development this song is still one of the few songs that have the exciting force to stop the blood in my veins with power & glory, taking me to the ancient times...this song was truly destined to be one of my top favourites, ever since I was a child I've always gazed at the stars in the heavens...Dio's gift to all of us stargazers!!!
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
The song which was probably written & rehearsed somewhere around my birth in late '79...
Children Of The Sea
Instantly recognizable, always exciting & mesmerizing, always powerful. Technically one of the most demanding songs from Black Sabbath, a song with a lot of detail and a very important rhythm section performance which has to be in this top notch form in order to properly deliver this song, there can be no "leaning back & forth" in this one. Vocally one of the most brilliantly shining diamonds from Dio, the intro alone shows who is the master in this business.
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Time and again, just like today, the albums Heaven And Hell & Mob Rules continue to amaze me with their fierce, gut-wrenching power, technical superiority and fantastic musical prowess. I just love to say it all over again: these albums are 2 prime examples of the best heavy metal in the world, the highest class of musical enjoyment, the albums that have become an integral part of my musical personality.
"Fell in love with a Country Girl..."
...it's my story too!![]()
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Rainbow - Stargazer (Live in Dusseldorf 1976)
My live in Dusseldorf cd just arrived today and this is the perfect way to start my Rainbow listening sessions. Ronnie does screw up the lyrics to this one, he actually sings the last verse on the place of the second verse but as usual he saves the day with some great adlibs once again. I doubt most of the people there even noticed the mistake. This was really the glory days of Rainbow, Ritchie was on top of his game and Ronnie was suberb to say the least.
It is great that these Live in Germany albums were made available to us all, they're a great testament of the greatness Rainbow was with Ronnie.
Unlike in Köln this time there was no encore, which means Ritchie was having one of "those" days again, but I am still surprised how inspired he was with his solos though.
-Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper. Oh how I need to be free of this pain but it goes over and over and over again-
Falling Off The Edge Of The World
One of Black Sabbath's most massive songs, this is basically a 3-phase prog piece - first the gentle intro, then the mega-heavy mid-part and finally the fast-paced gallop. Fantastic! And Dio soars above this behemoth of a song like no other, truly something many can approach but never reach. One of the most memorable songs on the album and in the entire Black Sabbath catalogue, all I need to hear are the first 3 notes and I know what's coming...I love this song, luckily I got to experience this song live from the masters themselves after years and years of utopia...
Cheers Ronnie, this is just one of the many jewels you left for us to enjoy and remember you from.![]()
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
I'm listening to Lord of The Last Day. I listened to Electra before that. I too have been listening to all Dio (Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Dio) all week. I consider H&H as Black Sabbath. What a legacy of music this man left us.
Rainbow - Long Live Rock 'n' Roll (vinyl), Gates of Babylon (video), Osaka 1976 (aud)
Dio - Sacred Heart (vinyl & live video), Evil or Divine (dvd)

Here in my home town we have a Wishing Well across the street from our main church...
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Rainbow - A Light In The Black
I've gotten this far already, listened through all of the Dio albums and now it's the end of Rainbow Rising...and what an album it is...a true masterpiece from start to finish...Ronnie's lyrics on this one are brilliant. It's got everything, magical ride to the past to the land of ancient wizards and sands, story of an over zealous groupie, mystical woman and making love...
A Light In The Black is a monster of a song...really fast riffing from Ritchie and some exceptionally galloping vocalisation by Ronnie...And the lyrics...again have taken a whole new meaning...Ronnie was a light for me so many times when everything just seemed so black. His music and lyrics carried me through so much sadness...and they keep doing so now and forever more.
-Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper. Oh how I need to be free of this pain but it goes over and over and over again-
The amazing song "Slipping Away"...The rhythm patterns of this masterpiece are just mind-blowing - not only technically extremely demanding, but also loaded with power and tasteful touch, a brutal package of excellence. One of the severely over-looked songs of Black Sabbath, this isn't among the most popular songs and I can't imagine why. In my mind this is a dangerously high-class song both musically and technically, I wouldn't want to even try to cover this song if I was a musician, this is so fierce.
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Some of the songs Dio performed at the 2008 Water & Rock Festival in Lahti, Finland...the very last time Dio would perform with his own band on the Finnish soil...Luckily I was there, front & center...
...and amazingly, the concert was full of my highest song wishes! The concert, logically devoid of any Black Sabbath songs, opened mind-blowingly with Holy Diver, they finally performed my coveted favourite Sacred Heart, the fantastic Rock 'n' Roll Children which I wanted badly for many years, the spectacular medley of the songs The Temple Of The King & Kill The King...there was the last chance to hear the beautiful medley of Catch The Rainbow & Long Live Rock 'n' Roll...there was also the final performance of the song Man On The Silver Mountain in its proper slow tempo...The concert also saw the return of the mighty heavy hitters Killing The Dragon and The Eyes...I didn't experience Dio on the Magica tour and none of us will ever get to experience the conclusion of the story, but at least I got the most powerful song of the first Magica album, The Lord Of The Last Day...
What a fantastic show that was, full of my dreams come true. It was like Dio had heard my prayers just before they made the setlist...
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
I've been listening to the Sacred Heart album lately. I haven't heard it a really long time. It's much better than I remember it. I always considered one of the weaker Dio albums, and although I don't now consider one of his strongest, it has many more good moments than I originally gave it credit for.
I've had a couple dio-fronted song on my mp3player following me everywhere for sometime now, with a couple of Queen or Deep Purple or Uriah Heep songs.. or Bal-Sagoth too..
Elf:
Black Swampy Water
Carolina County Ball
Wonderworld
Blanche
Rainbow:
16th Century Greenleaves
Stargazer
Gates Of Babylon
Black Sabbath:
Children Of The Sea
Over And Over
Too Late
Dio:
Don't Talk To Strangers
All The fools Sailed Away
Lord Of The Last Day
.
.
.
and too much more to call.. everything else i have in my collection

Now it's Throw Away Children, the song made for Children Of The Night Foundation...a truly beautiful and touching song...I usually don't like child choirs at all, but here they work perfectly.
And Ronnie's voice is so filled with emotion you can clearly hear how important this song is to him. One of the most emotional songs he has ever done. A true masterpiece...I'm sad they never played this live, I'm sure it would have been great.
-Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper. Oh how I need to be free of this pain but it goes over and over and over again-
Any "Children" thing from Ronnie was always something special, he loved children the most.
I remember reading a comment from Dio: "All child molesters should be placed into one room and blow them all away"...
The song "Throw Away Children" is one of the best on the album and yes, the choir works very good on that one.
-----------------------------------------------
It must be at least the 10th or 11th run already with the albums Heaven And Hell & Mob Rules, these are just so damn good that I seem to be unable to let go of them...Of course, whatever I listen from Dio, it's magic. I guess today I will enter the realm where Murray The Chainmaster throws evil priests into the lake of punishment...
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Currently have "Walk Away" playing.
The week before last, I listened to my entire discography which includes all of the Rainbow, Sabbath, and Dio albums including live albums.
I took a little break, but since today is the day of the memorial, I think I will return to honor my old friend (although I never met the man, his music is so important to, and formative for, me, that I consider him a dear old friend).
I've been listening to a lot of Dio but at present I'm listening to In Dreams, to be followed by Prisoner of Paradise.
In my Stereo at present is Magica, H&H, MR, TDYK and LLR'N'R. I've cycled through Elf, Rising, Holy Diver and RB'sR.
Next in the stereo will be Live at Munich 1977 which has just arrived as well as Master of the Moon, Strange Highways, Dream Evil and Dehumanizer.
A very powerful song with an exceptional emotional performance - definitely a highlight. Killing The Dragon is a very under-rated album as is Master of The Moon. The song "Throw Away Children" is one of the best on the album and yes, the choir works very good on that one.
"But that is not the question. Why are we here, that is the question. And we are blessed in this, that we happen to know the answer. Yes, in this immense confusion one thing alone is clear. We are waiting for Godot to come."
- Samuel Beckett, Waiting for Godot

Sir Winston Churchill
Heaven & Hell - Breaking Into Heaven
The whole The Devil You Know album is a pure masterpiece there is no denying that...not a single bad song on the entire album....Breaking Into Heaven is one of the best ones without a doubt. Such a powerful and dark song. Ronnie's lyrics are especially good (but then again they usually are) and Tony's riffs are sinister through out the song.
A great way to close a great album. I have to say I never would have thought this to be H&H's swan song...I was always sure they'd do another album and another...but tragedy struck...but all in all this is a great way to end a career and a band....It took 14 years to get a new Black Sabbath album and this was worth the wait, no doubt about it. And this will also be the very last Black Sabbath album and it carries that torch with honor as well.
-Too many flames, with too much to burn, and life's only made of paper. Oh how I need to be free of this pain but it goes over and over and over again-
Since Monday, after finishing the first Dio-esque phase 1974 - 1981, I've listened to some Altars Of Destruction and Winterwolf, watched the Motorhead Stage Fright DVD and ran through some Axel Rudi Pell, his latest 2 albums Tales Of The Crown & The Crest...just as an intermission of sorts...
Now it's time to launch the Dio-esque phase #2...1983 - 1992...a mighty set of songs indeed, I could get stuck with these jewels for a long time...
Dio - Stand Up And Shout
Dio - Holy Diver
Dio - Gypsy

"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
One of my all-time favourites, an instant smack-in-the-face exciter!!!

An absolute classic with a powerful atmosphere, beautiful & beastly vocals from Dio, trademark Iommi riffing, Butler bangs out some cool bass lines, Appice ruling his world of power drumming...

"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Dio did not sing this, but it would of blown my mind if he and Freddy Mercury sang this together. As title of thread says, it's "Dio-esque", it's Princes Of The Universe.
Let me tell you now, about a friend of mine. He tried to shoot them lights, with whiskey and the wine. He didn't get so far, ah his gun was wrong. Now my sweet friend, where's your song? Shoot out the lights, shoot out the lights.
Do you like the dark YES!!!
Do you like the way it moves YES!!!
Do you come alive when neon kills the sun YES!!!
Are you hypnotized YEEEEEEEEES!!!
One of the classic songs in the "good time music" category, I mean I've shouted that YES!!! for many times...

On the cold, dark nights of the autumn/winter in 1999 I travelled in the bus, back and forth between my home and the barracks...long lonely hours on the road, watching the bleak clouds or the starlight...Dio reminded me where I was born and made me feel warm...
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
The song that really started everything Dio-esque for me, I remember getting lost deeper and deeper into world of Dio when I listened to the compilation album Diamonds The Best Of Dio over and over, I remember falling in love with his voice which just commanded me to listen more and more, on and on...of course, the overall musicianship & musical magic of this song and the entire album are something phenomenal. This song and the album represent some the finest work of Dio and, thus, some of the best rock & metal in my world.
Has any other rock & metal vocalist started a remarkable solo career like this after having reached the age of 40 and carried on with it for 25+ years?![]()
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Diamonds is in fact the album to be credited for getting me into Ronnie James Dios music aswell. I hadn't been listening metal for too long, and I thought that I should expand my music catalogue. So, I remebered this band that my dad used to listen a lot when I was a kid. I remembered cover arts of their albums, as those were the things that caught my attention instead of the music as a kid. I began to listen to one of those vinyls whos cover I could distinctly remember - one Holy Diver. Then I uploated other random Dio songs and later I bought the Diamonds compilation from a local store. I was hooked for good. After that I started to expand my Dio collection, then moving on to Rainbow (The Very Best Of album and my dads vinyls) and later on to Sabbath (The Dio Years).
In retrospect, I think that by finding the music of RJD I actually discovered many other bands that are now my absolute favorites. By listening to Dio era of Sabbath I started to listen more to other eras as well, through Rainbow I found Deep Purple and so on.
Currently listening to "As Long as it's Not about Love". I have only got to "As long as it's not about love" before swelling up and crying.
Such emotion.
One of the all-time best hard-hitting, Sabbathman-destroying heavy rockers ever made anywhere, a 100 % masterpiece with furious riffage, bad-ass drum & bass work, fantastic soloing from the young Rowan & of course the angry & high-soaring vocals from Dio...An instant go-insane-and-rock-your-ass-out song from the go.
Massive riffs coupled with one of the brightest stars of Dio's entire career as a vocalist. The gentle & soulful intro turns into a perfect roar in the best Dio-esque tradition. One of the three pinnacles of this album, maybe the highest & most beautiful one. I can't believe the over-looking & under-appreciation this song suffers from, this is a jewel in the truest sense of the word.
These are two of the many songs that were never performed live for me and never will be. I always hoped to hear these.
"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
Listened to Killing the Dragon while enjoying breakfast today. What a massive sounding and astonishing albumMagica and KTD are definitely in the bands top 5 albums IMO.

Right now it's Dream Evil. Sometimes overlooked but this is a really good cd. Title track is awesome
After years of having my self-made Dio-esque mp3s with varying quality levels on my computer (this is my 3rd computer during the last 10 years), last night I made them all again from my CDs starting from scratch. I made these with Dio in mind and for my own listening convenience (even though I very rarely listen to any mp3s at home, usually I tend to use my mp3s in my car, on some cabin weekends, etc.). Now I have all of my Dio-esque material with the same in-line sonic quality.

"HALLOWEEN RIFFS, WALL-TO-WALL GUITARS"
I love this song, with the melodic falsetto through the into, leading into the mean chunky heavy main riff. I remember I'd enjoy the occasional tipple of weed, and I was listening to The Mob Rules and that phasing part that pans from speaker to speaker towards the end of Sign Of The Southern Cross, where Tony is winding on his guitar volume bringing it up from quiet to loud, it sounded sooo cool....then there was the end that led into E5150, in my hazy brain state of mind, it sounded sooo trippy and heavy!! Ahhh, reminising..
