To be honest I like it how it is, I don't think it would be that great to have a Doom Metal vocalist come into Black Sabbath/Heaven and Hell or whatever.
I think Candlemass could pull off a good Dio Sabbath set. But only with Messiah.
What do you guys think?
(Actually, I think Messiah should take Glenn's place, as guest vocalist, just sayin')

I was also talking about the fall gigs too. Candlemass could do a set or something. They did a Sabbath medley on Ancient Dreams I think.
I think he could do a nice job. Back in the summer of 2007 Heaven & Hell were headlining the Sweden Rock Festival and earlier in the day I bumped into Messiah at the backstage bar. He wasn't performing at the festival, but had come specifically to see Heaven & Hell play. So he was definitely a fan of Dio.![]()
Messiah is horrible. Well, hes alright if you want to hear opera-style bellowing with MASSIVE OVERUSE of vibrato.
Rob Lowe would be a good choice.
Rob Lowe is probably a better choice for Dio-songs but Candlemass without Messiah is weak. Lowe sounds horrible in the real Candlemass songs. He just does not fit, Solitude Aeturnus is a great band where he has his right place and is doing an honorable job.
It's not only the singing itself, Messiahs input on the vocal lines are so much better. Now, Edling is just a shadow what he used to be so it probably won't get any better than the reunion album but still...
Sorry for stealing the thread...
I think the Tribute is being put on by the surviving members of Heaven & Hell. They choose who would be the singers. If it's good enough for Tony, Geezer and Vinnie. Than it's good enough for me.
"I can honestly say it’s truly been an honor to play at his side for all these years, his music will live on forever." ~ Tony Iommi (Speaking of Ronnie James Dio)
i think the current Candlemass lineup with Lowe would probably be better for singing Dio-era tracks personally. right now they're covering Kill the King which Lowe is doing a fantastic job of singing. Messiah would be more ideal for an Ozzy-era tribute. i'm content with Glenn and Jorn though. i hope there's a decent quality recording of the show.
I agree the Rob Lowe fronted Candlemass is weaker (still don't mind them being called Candlemass though). Messiah cut loose a bit on the reunion album and ditched some of the more vibrato stuff, for me this made it his best performance for C'mass.
In answer to the original topic, I think Messiah would be a great choice to perform some Dio-Sabbath, but maybe not at the tribute gig. As others have said, that's down to what Tony & co wanna do.
However I think if Tony does future solo work he should consider linking up with Messiah for at least one track...

Lanqvist was never actually in the band but he does a good job on the first album and he also proved to have his voice in a good shape on the anniversary show a couple of years ago.
But still, when listening to live albums and stuff like that, Messiah is the winner even on the Epicus songs.
Well, I think it fits the music and he also has got a great feeling for the music. It's what Candlemass is supposed to sound like to my ears. With Lowe it becomes more generic metal (and he destroys the older songs live). But it also has to do with the way Edling writes songs these days and the production/sound they choose. If Lowe had been the original singer on the prime Candlemass albums then maybe I'd have a different opinion.
And on topic: Lowe would be a brilliant Dio-songs singer.
Totally of topic: Is Solitude Aeturnus still around?
Lanqvist is one of my favorite clean metal vocalists, period, tbh. I dunno. I've heard Messiah doing Epicus songs on live albums, and frankly I'm repulsed.
Diff opinions though.
