Default 3 best Tony Martin songs?

...for those trying to enter the TM era world - and daunted by the volume of material - what are the best 3 songs to listen to that might spark a love affair with this era?

    My suggestions:

    The Shining
    Eternal Idol
    Psychophobia
    Back To Eden
    and maybe Anno Mundi

...sorry that's 5, but never mind
I don't need wings to reach the sky
And I don't need hands to hold you tight...

I think The SHINING sounds very Dio-ish, I remember thinking, wow, they got a singer who sounds like Dio, which at times, Martin does...

    1. Kiss Of Death - my fav TM era song, ironically, it's the last song on their worst album. I hate the production (except on this song, it almost sounds like it wasn't recorded durring the same sessions) , very steril, and Martin's voice sounds course, strained throughout, like they recorded it just off a tour, with no rest.

    2. The Shining

    3. Nightwing

    honorable mention:
Psycophobia, an over looked gem..love it.
    When Death Calls

so far listen to shining... also gillen version - very similar voice to martin --- i like both, but gillen more because he has a SOUL touch.

but the song sounds a bit pop for my taste.
    was it a hit?

No it wasn't, there was a video of it though, but I see what you mean, it is very memorable, dare I say a catchy riff? I think it's one of Tony's better ones, which means it's 1 of 100's...

Anno Mundi = very powerful song and they really took time with this one. Martin has fantastic technique! Perhaps missing a unique character - but I like his voice. The harmonies a great... a bit queenish.

this song sound a bit like BS!

Yeah Anno Mundi is one of the best from the Martin era. The song is really good to listen to on a cold and windy autum/winter night. It fits the atmosphere so well.

Also, I think it has one of Iommi's better riffs. It's just so heavy, crushing and evil

So many...hard to pick just three...

    But

    When Death Calls
    The Shining
    and perhaps the Valhalla Trilogy

Virtual Death and Headless Cross might be on that list on some other day...along with Anno Mundi and Sabbath Stones.

Eternal Idol = the song is a bit boring for me... however I LOVE the chorus!!! very very bluesy, and give me the shivers! I like the end too.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIDY0peBBt4 = ROCKnROLL!!!

Back To Eden = more cool RnR!!!

...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fgzaxsh17JE this is cool! I like Martin's lower register!

Yes, Annu Mundi is great and the production and time put into it show... I always liked The Sabbath Stones too, but always wished that the guitar was brought out front more in the mix, cause the riff is classic Sabbath. Both songs have some of the best vocals I've ever heard from Martin or anyone for that matter. The guy could sing!

Even though the song Heaven In Black is just ok to me, nothing special, I always thought the name would have made a great Sabbath album title... or come to think of it, it would make a great band name to follow up H&H with wouldn't it...?

back to eden = COOL! love geezer pounding bass!

I Witness = this is excellent ROCKnROLL! ...hey Im gettin to like this stuff

    - - -

Im starting to see there is a lot of good stuff here with Martin - and I am beginning to feel that it is really a pity that they did the 97 reunion as opposed to just carrying on with TM making more and more albums. They were really on a roll at that time, album after album..... it is a pity that that ended....

Nightwing = beautiful --hot drumming.... the VERY end goes nuts, the fade out is too quick!

Anno Mundi - just really well written
The Sabbath Stones - epic as all hell, sweet bridge
Kill in the Spirit World - reminds me of the book Night of Knives by Ian C Esslemont
Cardinal Sin - plenty of attitude

Also The Shining, Headless Cross, When Death Calls, Nightwing, the Valhalla trilogy, Psychophobia, Forbidden, Kiss of Death...

Aside from the rest of Cross Purposes, I don't really like any more Martin.

Eternal Idol doesn't count for me, since it's a Ray Gillen-era album IMO

Devil & Daughter - The song that got me into Sabbath and made me love the Tony Martin era!
    Ancient Warrior
    Kiss Of Death
    The Sabbath Stones
    Virtual Death

There are so many more I could choose though!

    GLORY RIDE!!!!!

A very good rocker with a catchy chorus. All around a really good track. Like most Martin era stuff the song doesn't get the love I think it deserves.

All off one release but they just rock the house:

    Psychophobia
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Dying For Love- Lighter, without being soft or mushy

3A) Virtual Death- it is just SO heavy

Surprised I haven't joined in on this thread yet.

Anyway, I would have to say :

    Cross of Thorns
    Kill in The Spirit World
    Back To Eden

I would also suggest Raising Hell, Scream and The Kids of Today from his solo Scream album

    Cardinal Sin (Fucking awesome song!)
The Law Maker (Fast and heavy song for sure, one of the faster Sabbath songs!)
Rusty Angels (Really nice and melodic tune)
