This is one of my fav albums. My favorite song is Trashed. I love the music and the story behind it. Keep It Warm is a good one too. Not a typical Sab song, but that's what I liked about Gillan's time in Sabbath. In fact I think I might go take a listen to the cd now.

I do love every song off of this album but for me it is the title track. Born Again is simply amazing. It is so beautiful and haunting at the same time Every time i hear it the song gives me chills. My favorite Sabbath song after Ozzy left and it is a top 10 Sabbath song for their whole career. Just brilliant.

Born Again sure is one of the saddest tracks I have ever heard. Even though Gillans voice is not totally struck by sadness like Glenn in "In memory" or Coverdales "Soldier of Fortune" there is some kind of desperation to it. "Look at this prince of Evil, fighting for your mind" for example. It is begging us to wake up, to be born again (also reffering to the band Black Sabbath I guess but I believe it has a deeper meaning). I really really really want to cover this song, but my voice is nowhere near an acceptable level. But it's the thought that counts anyway, and the thoughts in this particular song are many and subtle. Those who say this track is boring should try something called imagination I mean after all Black Sabbath began with a really easy but scary song, these elements are found in BA as well, and to me it is one of the greatest types of songs.

I don't see Born Again as the saddest Sabbath track - though Changes and Solitude would rank up there - largely thanks to Ozzy's singing, which captures the mood of the songs perfectly, I think Over and Over off Mob Rules holds that title - it's just completely bleak.

Born Again to me is something far more primal and stirs up different emotions in me instead of sadness - alongside Trashed it is my favourite track off the album.

I think that Tony's end solo off Born Again is the greatest solo he's done on an album - shows a lot more emotion in his playing and it's a real showcase of his talent as a guitarist.

If he ever does another album with Ian Gillan, I'd love him to do more atmospheric stuff like Born Again.

Heh heh, you guys are MUCH bigger fans of this album than I am, for many years I hated it, but I've been warming to it much more lately. Still can't stand the second side tho, 'Keep it Warm' 'Hotline' just are plain silly to me. However I don't think the mix is as bad as most people do, you really need a good audio system/headphones for it not to sound screechy or boomy, it's a very particular mix. Now to pick my favorite track, Disturbing the Priest is a close second to Zero the Hero. Although I think Zero's lyrics are ridiculous, I absolutely LOVE the guitars and all those haunting sound effects in it, sort of like the air raid siren at the beginning of War Pigs. They REALLY make the song a masterpiece. (cept for those silly lyrics DOH).

Born Again is truly majestic. I picture those faded tapestries and all. Maybe they performed some scary exorcisms in that room.

Majestic is a very good description of it. Whenever I am writing mode, rather it be poetry or story, I listen to music as background and when it comes to Sabbath the title track is my most preferred track.

The ambiance is propelled by those cryptic and subjective lyrics, which is why I can never understand why some call the song a power ballad about love. I mean, only Ian knows what he was singing about and the lyrics are extremely subjective but, where is the love story?

Can you feel the mighty wall of power?
It's waiting, waiting in the gloom
Look at this prince of evil
They're controlling our minds
And they use us for fortune and fame
The gray and plastic retards all floating in circles

Maybe I am missing something but with music this morbid and dark and lyrics that evil and hateful in scope, I don't see how the song is a love story. I guess it doesn't matter however, since the song is beyond words in every single way.

Well it is easy to state that, but I find BA sadder because Changes and Solitude are sad on an almost default level. It is almost like the songs are telling you that you are supposed to be sad. Don't get me wrong though, I love both songs, with Solitude being my favorite on MoR and Changes my second favorite on V4. But BA actually makes you work to find which emotion it is really going for. Even the chimes used by Bill Ward seems to have a special meaning, purpose and significance...

Absolutely, I've loved that solo from the moment I first heard it. Since BA was the first Sabbath album I ever heard, it took many different albums and years to find a song where Iommi plays that emotional, of which I think Nightwing succeeds in.

I wonder if any of the guitarists here have ever really learned the solo to Born Again.

Like MachX, I've been starting to warm up to this album lately. Although I still think it's an patchy entity, it has some really great tracks that save the album from being a total lackluster. I'm eagerly waiting for the new remix...

To answer the question, I would have to say the combo of The Dark/Zero the Hero or the title track, can't really choose between them.
