Really? Am I the only one who thinks this is way beyond cheesy? A memorial of some sort is very cool, very classy. But I swear to God this is one step away from The Franklin Mint selling RJD statues along side Civil War Chess Pieces. People have their hearts in the right places, I just believe that it looks cheap.

Actually by looking at the actual picture of the statue it's bigger than lifesize:

I think it looks pretty good.

I think you're taking this a little too seriously. I think the statue looks fine. I'm no art aficionado or anything but I think it would be hard to tell weather or not it's cheap unless you see it in person and can get a true look at it.

Plus, if it does end up falling apart in a due to "being cheap" what does it really matter to you? It's not like you invested your own money in the project.

this is cheap and cheesy; and a misuse of His name. I think there would have been many ways of expressing what you expressed in a a cool classy way instead.

Precisely the reason that I stated twice "I believe". It's my opinion. It's what we do here, post our thoughts. Your opinion of my opinion is duly noted.

OK no need to come off like such a condesending ass. I was just merely stating you shouldn't take the whole statue issue so seriously. It's a nice jester for them to do it and that's all it is.

You come back with this reply and say I'm taking things seriously? I merely said it looks cheap, their hearts are in the right place, but something better could be done. You came back at me with so it's not your money, who cares if it falls apart... I'd say maybe it is you who took my opinion a little too seriously. Not willing to keep this thing going, I have an opinion on this statue, you disagree with my opinion, on to the next thread, OK?

No, I wasn't looking down on your opinion at all. Whatever, i'm not one to get into many arguements on here. So we'll agree to disagree and move on.

Any tribute to a rocker is good in my book. I used to drive down DioWay in Cortland, NY (Dio's and my hometown) every time I would go pick up my brother when I was a teen. It's funny, the street was just long enough to sing the chorus to "self portrait". My bro and I would sing

"Nothing is real but the way that I feel
    and I feeeel liiiike goooooing
    Down Dio Way!"

every time we drove down it, er well, prolly not every time.

    Anyways, back to the statue.

If someone doesn't have a facebook, most special pictures here:
I have and 2 pictures with Steve Minardi. From the small talk we had, I can say he is one very kind person.

    RIP Dio

RIP Ronnie James Dio! We will always remmember you as very good person, as the voice of the Universe! As the one who passed the final frontier in the music with his voice! A kind person with voice that even God haven't heard! You always will live in our soul, cause dreamers never die!

    Thanks for the pics...
I do have to say, I'm sure about the way he just comes out of the rock like that without legs...I would imagine there is a point to that but I'm not sure I like it though...

But still a great tribute, there's no denying that...Hopefully there will be more, since Ronnie deserves everything and more.

It amazes me favourably that, as a child of the "Cold War" and one who served in the U.S. Air Force orientated toward fighting that, which thank God never happened, how quickly and fervently our friends in Eastern Europe have embraced HEAVY METAL.

I remember watching the video of Iron Maiden Behind The Iron Curtain back in 1984 chronicling their tour of Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia. It was so cool watching the people going absolutely apeshit over Maiden.

Back when I was serving, I never could have envisioned a statue of Ronnie James Dio being erected in Bulgaria, so the fact that it is happening is just amazing. Yes, it may be cheesy in a sense but to me it's just great that it's being done...a tip of the hat to the citizens of Kavarna, Bulgaria.

OK, philosophising over...is there going to be a statue or memorial (in addition to Dio Way) in Cortland?
He is not here. He has risen!

Dio definitely deserves a statue. I think it looks great.
