BA for me too. Both albums came out in 1983 and both Sabbath and Ozzy were coming out of (or trying to come out of) periods of turmoil; Sabbath having sacked 1/2 the band (Dio and Appice) and having gone through the whole Live Evil debacle and Ozzy having lost Randy, then going through a number of lineup changes leading up to BATM.

Born Again by a mile. I have a lot of time for BATM, listened to it a lot back when it was released. However I still listen to BA a lot, it's superb!

Read`the thread in the early morning...Today is my long run day...put Born on Ipod...found myself repeating a lot of the songs...good album to run to ...hypes u up...good stuff..even with the cheesy cover and videos...

Too bad they could not continue with Ian (even thou i dont care for his lyrics or screams..He brings a LOT of energy in the songs)...for at least another album...

    + Billy on Drums!!!

But I voted for BATM...being the ozz fan i am...

    Cheers,

    Born Again, definitely.

Both albums are absolutely great! However, I am a bigger fan of Iommi, Geezer, and Bill as opposed to Jake E. Lee and whoever else. BATM is my favorite Ozzy-solo album though.

BATM. Born Again would lose out against MANY albums. I've never been able to get into it. There's tasteful screaming and then there's screaming just because you can, whenever possible. I'm not a fan of the latter.

Born Again all the way! Don't get me wrong I like BATM but Born Again is way better. Favorite song on it is Disturbing the Priest

Born Again. I just wish Gillan's vocals weren't so comical at times, but minor gripe!

Born Again easily! Bark At The Moon has too many poppy 80s songs on it...one of my least favourite Ozzy albums of all time...

Where as Born Again is pure heavy metal onslaught and Ian's vocals are pure magic.

"Can't you see the mighty wall of power? It keeps waiting, waiting in the gloom..."

It's Born Again all the way here... but I think it would have been interesting to put in "Holy Diver" in the poll as it came out the same year, then the decision would have been much harder.

Born Again, easily. With all its flaws, it is still very interesting and great. Bark at the Moon on the other hand is mostly boring where my ears are concerned.

I have to go with "Born Again".
I wonder if one cover inspired the other, they both have a horror theme going on.

Born Again, never been a fan of BATM. Besides the title track there aren't any tracks I really like while Born Again has at least 4 songs I like.

No surprise hear but I went with BATM. I absolutely love Born Again, my favorite non Ozzy era Sabbath album but nothing moves me like Ozzy's voice. I think the title track is one of the best Metal/Hard Rock songs of all time on BATM. Jake's guitar playing is insane on it. I also think think the songs You're No Different, Waiting For Darkness & Now You See it are classics as well. I love the Max Norman production and thought Ozzy did a very solid job after the loss of Randy.

The one thing I will say about BA is that I think Sabbath improved upon their previous album (nothing against MR) and Ozzy had to follow the best album of his career.

Ian has never said Born Again is weak. He said that the mix of the album was weak and that it made the songs sound wrong. He has often stated how much he actually liked songs like Trashed and Disturbing The Priest. Hell he even re-recorded Trashed with Tony on his Gillan's Inn album!

Bark at the Moon simply destroys Born Again. Actualy, Bark at the Moon is possibly my favourite Ozzy album, beacuse it's just so well made, and Jake E. Lee is a quite good replacement for Randy Rhoads. The album is just sooo listenable, while Ian Gillan is almost unlistenable with the dark Sabbath sound. If it weren't for The Dark/Zero the Hero and Trashed, Born Again would be THE worst Sabbath album of the 80's.

Born Again, by a large margin. Some Iommi's most aggresive riffs, Geezer's pulsatingly sinister bass and some of Bill Wards best drumming (not that he has ever had a bad spell in the studio with Sabbs). Even the arrogant twit of Ian Gillan (after reading comments made about Blackmore & Hughes Can't stand him - Blackmore is no saint granted. Mk 3 & 4 Purple blow Mk 2,7 and 8 out of the water, especially vocally) cannot ruin the album with his OTT screaming and shockingly bad lyrics (though fewer here than in Purple - or the shell of band touring today). Credit where due, Trashed Lyrics were ok as were those to Disturbing The Priest and Born Again.

BATM, beyond the title track does little for me. I am not an ozzy fan as such, but I picked up a few of hjis albums either for certain tracks or because I like the guitarist. I am a fan of Jake E Lee. Ultimate Sin on the other hand was a very strong album.

Agreed. BATM is the last Ozzy solo album more solid than not. I bought BA the day it was released, and saw the tour. I have tried several times (including about 1 month ago) to like the album but I just can't get into it.

Actualy, to top it, with no disrespect to the great late Randy Rhoads, but I just think that BATM is the greatest Ozzy solo album. The songs are wonderful, and the album is just so listenable. Great, amazing album.

Born Again of course. I can't wait for the remix Deluxe Expanded Edition. I really hope they do a good job and give us something worthwhile like a bonus live concert.

Bark at the Moon. There are some good songs on Born Again but not enough to call it a masterpiece . to me B.A. sounds so uneven. It has its ups and downs.

Really? Born Again is uneven but this is not written about Bark At The Moon?

Side 1 of BATM is majestic and brilliant. The best vocals Ozzy's ever laid down, this side of the entire Sabotage and Ultimate Sin records, as well as some of his best lyrics.
Side 2 of BATM is mostly putrid and just silly. Some of the worst vocals Ozzy's ever laid down, this side of Blizzard Of Ozz and Down To Earth.

The album fails from poor track listings. No matter which version you have, all the best songs are at the beginning of the album. The entire band and Ozzy are in top notch form, with the Ozzman even sounding like he is at the top of his game. There is even a level of diversity that is not present on the later albums, as well as his two previous where he was supposedly at his "best". Rather it is speed metal and glam metal in the title track and "Rock And Roll Rebel" respectively. Or with hard rock and Jazz-y ballads with "Now You See It" and "Your No Different" respectively. The latter finds Ozzy at his greatest in terms of lyrics and vocals, he almost comes across like a 'good' vocalist, and the lyrics are logical. The riffs on the aforementioned songs all are great, with their driving forceful rhythms and soulful room to breathe, you can find yourself lost within the atmosphere of them.

The album's first single, that being the title track, was quite possibly it's best ever, going on to become a staple of Ozzy's live performances, and arguably, his signature tune. Guitarist Jake E. Lee is in fine form throughout, also scoring high marks with the upbeat "Rock And Roll Rebel" and the elaborate "Now You See It". But by comparison, Ozzy, Bob Daisley and Tommy Aldridge's contributions take a serious nosedive into irritating musical clichés, especially on the monotonous blues of "Spiders", "Slow Down" and the unbearably cheesy lyrics of "Centre of Eternity", that kill th excellent music. At times, Ozzy still can't help but sound derivative of any song recorded during Sabbath's era with him, and besides the always present Sabbath similarities, he also alludes to early Motown artists on the chorus of the dreadful "So Tired."

All things considered, however, Bark At The Moon remains one of Ozzy's best solo all-around efforts.

This is silly, there is no contest or comparison worthy of mention accept the year of 1983 in common. Born again prevails on so many fronts and levels I don't have time to even list the top 10 reasons!

Bark At The Moon!! No contest! I don't understand why anyone would try to put BORN AGAIN up against actual GOOD ALBUMS. It can't win. It's a "guilty pleasure" at best and barely that!!

I don't get the point of doing any polls with solo Ozzy albums on this site. You could put Blizzard of Ozz against Forbidden and Forbidden would win in a landslide.

Excellent choice for album vs. album lol! Both are oustanding. I am a major Black Sabbath and Ozzy fan. I cant' decide. They are both sooooooo good!
