    Default Martin's statement on Dehumanizer

Here is what Tony Martin replied to my statment about the Dehumanizer / Martin involvment:

The truth is.. Ronnie started it.. the band got cold feet cause ronnie allegedly started to stamp his authority on stuff and they got me back to try a few things. I was already working with my solo thing and was a bit messed up with what i ...was gonna do, ie carry on solo or return. Iommi had contacted me within a few weeks of them starting saying it wasnt goin that well... I went to his house to meet him and I said i couldnt do it cause of my solo thing i had signed with Polydor in Germany. ... The dehumaniser thing went ahead with Ronnie, but Iommi kept in touch and the u-tube video you may have seen where i am talking to Ronnie backstage was where Iommi suggested that I may be back.... I had been invited to be there .... I do wonder if it was planned. Either way it seemed no time at all before i was asked to rejoin.. But the talks were happening just weeks after Ronnie had started. .. If i may say though .. the Dehumaniser album wasnt that bad"!!!!! I quite enjoyed most of it! And if you are wondering what it was I was saying to Ronnie on the video.. ...I'll tell you another time

Wow, that's pretty awesome, definitely would like to know what he said to Ronnie. How did you get him to reply to you?

interesting read, thanks for sharing! although, TM is very much mistaken on one part: Dehumanizer was an epic, crushing release...certainly far superior to "wasn't that bad." That being said, out of curiosity I would still love to hear what his recorded versions of some of those songs sound like

Given the way Tony Martin was jerked around a lot, I can't say I blame him for how he feels.

Yeah if I were him I'd have a hard time listening to the album due to having a bad taste in my mouth. Also when he says "wasn't that bad" I take that as a figure of speech to mean that he liked it despite everything that was going on at the time.

Would love to hear Martin sing material from Dehumanizer; checked out youtube and found him singing Time Machine live. Does anyone know what other songs from that album he sang live or recorded demos for?

Thanks for this Ed! Nice little read! Clarified few things that we've been talking about here too.

Tony only sang Time Machine, it was the opening track for the Cross Purposes Tour...he never sang any other songs live.

I asked him if he could remember anything about his version, and this is what he answered:

Well I didn't have the same melodies as Dio did when I went there... And I have the feeling that it was just an exercise to make sure they had the right thing going on. I wasn't given much time to really get into it... Just a day or so.. but clearly they were concerned enough to ask me to go there and see if I could make something of it. So i remember it as just a kind of one off visit really.

That's how the English, Canadians, Australians, and New Zealanders spell it with an S, where us Americans spell it with a Z.
