Default Who's the best drummer in this era? What do you think?

Well let's see, we have Eric Singer, Cozy Powell and Bobby Rondellini. I have to go with Cozy 1st and Booby 2nd. I really like Cozy's drumming style.

I agree Cozy is one of my favs. Bobby is a wonderful drummer and his work in Rainbow and on Cross Purposes is awesome. Eric's not a bad drummer either, he did a fantastic album with Badlands and of course is now in Kiss.

I loved Bobby Rondinelli's playing on Cross Purposes, way more interesting than Cozy's straightahead rather bland style. I don't like drummers who play "ahead" of the beat, like Cozy, he sounds "cold" to me, so he's never been a fav. of mine. Rondinelli is awsome, like Bohnam meets Bill Ward, just heavy and all over the place. It's the one album without Bill Ward that I can truly say the drumming sounds like an integral part of the music.

Cozy hands down! I wish he'd been the Dio era drummer too. Really close to having him on Dehumanizer... Too bad it didn't work out.

Cozy was probably best although Rondinelli got the best opportunity to shine on a studio release. If Cozy had been on an album that wasn't so "straight" (well, he sort of did on "Forbidden", but that was also an attempt to be minimalist, so again he didn't really get opportunity to shine) then it he would probably win no contest for me. Maybe if he had ended up on "Dehumanizer" or had some other opportunity to work with Geezer on a studio release, then that would have done it. As it was, he was pretty much required to play "square" on album, and unfortunately there are no official live releases featuring him (here's crossing fingers that we'll get some live stuff on the deluxe "Headless Cross" or "TYR"), so his moments in the catalogue are decent but not great. Rondinelli got opportunity to play with "negative space" a bit more and thus I figure his work shows more.

I can't possibly decide... but I can explain. cozy powell is my favorite drummer of all time, I mean, Rainbow Rising, his solo album "Tilt" etc, it's just wonderful stuff. But despite me being VERY sceptic against Rondinelli when I first listened to Cross Purposes I must confess that he does a good job, just as good as Cozy. When it comes to Singer, I find his drumming very very good, it fits very well into the sound of Seventh Star and Eternal Idol, but I think Sabbaths sound changed alot from EI to HC... so I can't really compare him with the other two.

Rondinelli on Cross Purposes & Cross Purposes Live blows away all the other drummers easily, including Powell.

None of them were slouches on the sticks.

Cozy Powell was long my favourite drummer before he ever joined Sabbath. At best count, I have at least 14 albums in my collection that he plays on. I had tickets to see the Forbidden tour but the gig was cancelled.

Eric Singer would be my choice of drummer if Iommi and Martin somehow buried the hatchet and worked together again. I got to see him when he was in Gary Moore's band. He was excellent. I also got to meet him; nice guy.

Bobby Rondinelli, of course, did sterling work on Rainbow's Difficult To Cure and Straight Between The Eyes (my favourite of the Turner era), as well as Cross Purposes. I saw the CP tour and he was very good...visually he reminded me a lot of Eric Carr.

I never heard any of Terry Chimes' work with Sabbath so I can't really say one way or another about him.
He is not here. He has risen!

I say Rondinelli. Simply because he's the only one of the three I saw live. So I can't speak for the others. But man! I don't know if it was the p.a. or what but every time he hit the bass drum it felt as if my chest would explode. Fuckin Killer! So my vote goes to Bobby Rondinelli.

Definitely Cozy Powell....would like to see (hopefully if their is a new TONY MARTIN fronted sabbath in the future) SIMON WRIGHT on the drums.I find him to be pretty similar to Cozy. Solid Powerful, precise and musical... the man is a machine on stage

Cozy Powell, definently. Of the three, Eric Singer is my favourite drummer. But for Sabbath it's Cozy, hands down.

Cozy Powell of course! Cozy's drumming was awesome, he gave so much power and energy to the songs. But I also loved Rondinelli's drumming on Cross Purposes and Cross Purposes Live, really groovy.
