I'm not sure if they have or not. My guess would be no, but their tunes would sound fucking epic with a complete orchestra playing along with them. Hell, I'd go see an orchestra do their songs without any members of sabbath being present. I think they'd go over very well in that medium.

    No.

Some songs would work with an orchestra, but I'm not a big fan of that stuff...Purple made it work...Metallica made it suck...Doro made it work...so it is a bit of a hit and miss I suppose...

I do prefer straight forward metal though.

I remember this being discussed here before, can't recall where though But it's an interesting idea, and I would love to see the concert or buy a DVD. Just for fun, I'll list some songs from differen't eras that I'd like to hear/think would fit well with an orchesrta accompanying them:

    Ozzy Era:

    Black Sabbath
    Wicked World
    N.I.B.
    Iron Man
    War Pigs
    Solitude
    Children of the Grave
    Snowblind
    Wheels Of Confusion
    Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
    A National Acrobat
    Killing Yourself to Live
    Spiral Architect
    Megalomania
    Symptom of the Universe
    She's Gone
    Air Dance

    Dio era:

    Children of the Sea
    Heaven & Hell
    Die Young
    Lonely is the Word
The Sign of the Southern Cross
    Country Girl
Falling Off The Edge of the World
    Over & Over
    Computer God
    I
    After All (The Dead)
    Atom & Evil
    Fear
    Bible Black
    Rock & Roll Angel
    Follow the Tears
    Breaking Into Heaven

    Gillan Era:

    The Dark/Zero The Hero
Disturbing the Priest (would probably sound rather eccentric, I for one would love to hear this one!)
    Keep it Warm
    Born Again

    Martin Era:

    The Shining
    Nightmare
    Anno Mundi
    Headless Cross
    When Death Calls
    Evil Eye
    Immaculate Deception
    Cross of Thorns
    Kiss of Death

There are so many other songs too, but I didn't see any use in listing the whole catalogue

Short answer, NO. THIS WAS DISCUSSED QUITE A LONG TIME AGO, AND I WAS ALWAYS FOR IT, AGREE EPIC! I can see Iommi now, soloing out on Snowblind with the London Philharmonic thunder along, like the album, but only more epic, more awsome! Spiral Architek, and these are only the songs that come to mind that had string arrangements...She's Gone, another... Imagine Under The Sun, I always thought Iommi wrote in orchestrational themes anyway... at least a lot of the stuff sounded that way... opening crushing chords to Sabbath Bloody F'ing Sabbath, Philharmonic thunderring along..! That's something I'd like to see them do IF they reunited for one last hurrah, a full orchestra accompianment.

Of course some of their songs have had the classical treatment. The String Quartet Tribute to Black Sabbath came out in 2002 (I also have their Rush and Iron Maiden tributes!). Not exactly an orchestra, but some of the songs sounded very good. I forget the full track listing but Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Iron Man sounded amazing.

Additionally, there's the "Gregorean Chant" style recording Sabbatum by Rondellus using traditional medieval instruments and sung in Latin! It's not quite so accessible as the String Quartet recording but I remember War Pigs and Juniors Eyes were pretty good. I haven't played either in a while so I can't remember the full track listings.
My name is Lucifer please take my hand.

Tony Iommi could maybe re-record all the black sabbath songs on flute .

It might be appropriate to consider orchestra for a few select songs, but none of those songs are big "hits". Inevitably someone would wish to insert "Paranoid" and other usual suspects, and as good as that material is, most of it is rather minimalist in terms of instrumentation and should stay that way. I would never want to hear an orchestral version of "Sweet Leaf" for example.... ok strike that, I would listen to it, but would probably shake my head afterward.

I think an orch. version of "Sweet Leaf" would be great! It's one Sabbath's heaviest songs, and despite some people who think the lyrics are a little weird, the song is a crusher.. I can hear the thundering strings already! Iron Man would be epic..too.
