My L.A. Kings took game 1 against St. Louis Blues tonight. St. Louis looks like a formidable opponent.

Welcome, Thelemech. Sorry your teams are out. It's been a weird year, where the teams the hockey nuts club typically root for are out, and my L.A. Kings are still alive.

The Kings are really laying out some on-your-home-ice whoop-ass.
The Kings are 5-0 on the road in the playoffs. I don't have the statistics at my fingertips, but I'd bet that's the first time that's ever happened.

My Wings stunk!!!!! Time for some changes in D-town.

LA is for real! I love that they killed the Canucks and are now on the brink of eliminating the Blues. How cool that the 8th seed is on the verge of dispatching the top teams in the west. I'm pulling for them, and hope they win the Cup!

H&H, your Red Wings didn't live up to the past this year but you've enjoyed a great run. Time to let another long-suffering fan enjoy the moment! :-) I'd love to see L.A. and Phoenix in the Western Conference Finals. L.A. and Phoenix were neck and neck the entire season so the fact one is a #3 seed and the other is a #8 seed is of no great consequence. I'm glad you're pulling for them, and I will be too. They have a long way to go before they hoist the cup. I'll not get my hopes up yet.

The Kings are the #8 seed, yet they are making mincemeat out of the Western Conference.

Yes they have. I have not been able to catch one WC or EC finals game, which bums me out. I have been traveling in the US this week, and although on NBCS channel, every darn hotel I stay at does not have this channel. I will be travelling in Canada next week, so at least I will be able to watch some hockey in the evenings, although at this pace, the Kings may Sweep the Yotes.

LA vs NY for the CUP!

My favorite team in the NHL would have to be the New Jersey Devils! Go Martain Brodeur I have a good feeling their gonna win it this year.

L.A. Kings in the NHL Finals!!!! We've beaten the #1 seed. We've beaten the #2 seed. We've beaten the #3 seed. Bring on the best of the east!! (Let's hope we have better success than the Clippers did against the Spurs and the Lakers did against the Thunder.)

Thanks. I know you're a Vancouver fan and L.A. had to go through Vancouver in the first round, but your team had their turn last year. Others know that I've been a charter member of the hockey nuts club (and I think this is our fourth season), and have basically sucked wind while everyone else's teams won. There's still a mountain to climb but our chances are as good as anyone's, better actually: Kings 50%, Devils 25%, Rangers 25%.

Congrats Frank! Just finished up watching the Devils beat the Rangers. NJ looks pretty good. Should make for a very good Cup match up. I am rooting for your Kings Frank! Not just for you, but for the franchise as well. They have never won a Cup, so it would be very cool to get a new team's name etched into the Cup. Let this be redemption for 1993.

    Go Kings!

Thanks, H&H. You may recall from my earliest days in the hockey nuts group enjoying everybody else's teams' successes while steadfastly rooting for the southern California teams. There are a HECK of a lot of Kings fans around here these days, yet I wonder where any of them were the past four years. As for the Devils, I thought the opposite: after getting a 2-0 lead they seemed to lack the killer instinct in the 2nd period, the Rangers tied it, and the Devils only won on a fairly fluky goal in close to the net. You never know who will win but I think our chance is as good as anybody's.

I do remember, and I also recall you wanting them to be a better team. I remember telling you to be patient, that I saw a young group that had a lot of talent, and given time, they would rise to the occasion. Here we are, that occasion has arrived. CARPE DIEM L.A. Kings! Now is your time. I am very excited for you and all of the Kings fans. I love this game, and I always watch to the end, and this year is no different. I will be watching and enjoying whatever unfolds.

It's extremely refreshing to see new teams in the SC finals pretty much every year! NHL is really even nowadays, any team that makes it into the play off stage has true chances to go to the end.

I'm expecting Kings to take the Cup, but Devils should make for a good opponent. And I hope Parise does well, and continues the same trend next year in Red Wings jersey with Datsyuk on his side (here's hoping)

Sweet!!!! The Kings take game #1 on a breakaway goal by Kopitar in overtime. I can finally get some dinner now.

With Lidstrom announcing his retirement, I am hopeful that with that cash and the cap space they have they try to go after Parise and Suter.

Looks like the Kings/Devils series is going to be a good one. Kopitar is such an awesome player, and one that I have been talking about for a few years now. He is the real deal, and one that the NHL needs to be promoting. He, along with other great players like Stamkos, get lost because they are always talking about Sid. I am looking forward to him winning the Cup and the Conn Smyth trophy and finally getting the recognition he deserves.

The sweetest moment (so far) in L.A. Kings history. Oh, and yes, I know you've talked about Kopitar since the early days of the "Nuts." It's all coming together now. Let's hope they can finish the job.

    That was an awesome goal!

I took the wifey out to dinner last night, and we rushed home so we could (well, so I could anyways) watch Game 2. I turned on the TV, went over to NBC Sports, and no NHL. I was saying WTF! So i did a quick check on my phone, and low and behold the darn game is on Saturday night. I was bummed, as I was so ready to watch a hockey game. I liked the good old days of hockey when you could count on there being a game every other night. Although very disappointed, the good news is HOCKEY TONIGHT!

Kings win 2-1 in overtime AGAIN. The miracle Kings keep on rolling. I took a chance, going for a walk to the park with my wife, son and dog before it got dark, then returned home again in time to watch the overtime period. So, I got some good exercise, some good family time, and a good hockey victory. BTW, great full moon tonight!

What a game. NJ dominated most of the night, but Quick is the man! WHen the Kings scored the first goal I said to the wifey, GAME OVER. She said, oh stop, there is a lot of game left. I told her, you know the stat, of how the team that scores first in the playoff always has the upper hand. LOL. I laughed and said, told ya so, when the goal went in in OT.

LA has room to improve, and they will. Sutter will get these guys playing better, which IMO means they are going to take this series. They did not play bad, but they were outplayed most of the game, but their hard work payed off, by getting the win. Can't wait until Monday.

The L.A. Kings struck out in their first attempt to close out the series with the Devils. I'm not willing to get my hopes up prematurely. After all, I just watched the Thunder take 4 games in a row from the Spurs.

SO I did not think NJ would roll over, but I also did not think they would take 2 in a row. We have a series here folks, and I'm not sure now what to think. I would like to see LA take it at home, but a part of me is saying this will go seven games. Every game has been decided by a goal (Except for one, which was a 2 goal game, and only due to a late empty net goal). It has been some great hockey to watch, and Iam still rooting for the Kings. I really would like to see them win it, as they have never won a Cup, but if it's NJ, I'm OK with that too. It would be cool for LA to win for you too Frank!

HELL YEAH!!!! So happy for you my brother!

That was one hell of a can of whoop ass they laid on NJ last night. When the Kings went on their 5 minute PP, I looked at my son, who was rooting for NJ, and I said a full 5 minutes, they are going to score 3 goals here, just you watch. He laughed at me and said yeah right, they will only get 1. He was not happy with me after the PP was over, I appeared to be a soothsayer...LOL I then said LA would score the next goal (my streak was going) and after that one I said LA scores the next goal, with the final being 5 - 1. well I was wrong on both of those accounts, but LA came to play, and to win it at home!

Again, congratulations Frank! Enjoy the summer with that Stanley Cup glow. It is a great feeling, and I am sure this will boost the number of people playing hockey in the area.
