update.. Franklin, I think there is a pretty bad echo in that place even when standing at the floor. Part of the problem I think is that the opening bands didnt get a very good mix to begin with. The Sword played great but it was hard to make out what the guitars were doing at times. Yet, Kyuss sounded first rate. So I think it could be a case of favoritism with the sound engineers, or something of that sort. Despite that issue both bands really delivered in spades. Kyuss played 2 & 1/2 hours. But they played just about every song I wanted to hear. So it was a great night on those terms.

Thanks for the update. I chose to attend a college basketball game with my son instead and we had a great time. It sounds like you enjoyed the concert despite the problems with the sound mix.

Now, so I can keep on topic, here is my Occupy Wall Street theme song: Vio-Lence I Profit. You probably could benefit by having the lyrics handy while listening.

Feeling Taken, God Do I Hate. Pinstriped, Blacktied, Corporate Minds That Hate. All That They See Fit To Be Theirs. Giving Nothing Except Only To Their Heirs. Disease Kills Constantly Unseen. The Rich Pad Their Pockets, And Fulfill Their Money Schemes. Human Waste, Sucking Off The Cement They Beg, You See Nothing, You're Too Innocent. All That You Hold If You Owe, They Have Sold. Interest Indeed What I See Is Greed I Profit Off All That You've Got. Give It To Me. Others Worse, They'll Fuck You With Greed. Friendly Investment, On Their Minds Embezzling. Foolish Suckers, You're Born Every Day. Use Them, Confuse Them, And Then They Are Kicked Away. Rip You Off For All That You're Worth. A Quick Scheme Your Dreams Are Face Down In The Dirt. Bleeding Hearts, They've Got No Conscience For You. You Luck, Shit Luck, You're Fucked, You're Through. All That You Hold If You Owe, They Have Sold. Interest Indeed What I See Is Greed I Profit Off All That You've Got. Give It To Me. I Know I'm Not Against A Quick Buck. Profit Margin, I'd Like To Have One Myself, But Then, Some Scum, Money Is All That They Want. Immaculate Dreamland, For Their Needs They Will Rip You Off Give Me Cash, Give Me All That You've Got Fill My Pockets, Hand It Over, Do Not Conserve. Rich Making Poor Is All I Want To Be. I Profit, Embezzle, Cold Cash For Me. All That You Hold If You Owe, They Have Sold. Interest Indeed What I See Is Greed. I Profit Off All That You've Got. Give It To Me. Sifting My Hands, Through The Color, The Money, The Green I Must See, Only This Is No Dream. I'm No Longer The Scum On The Street Not The Bum That You Scrape Off Your Shoes As You Turn.

I just bought six new CDs, among them the latest from Symphony X called Iconoclast. I'm still in process of listening to this for the first time. However, so far, my favorite song on this album is track #9, When All Is Lost. I think there are a few Symphony X fans here at b-s.com. Hopefully, this song will strike a chord and inspire you to check out more from this excellent band.

This is from The Provenance, I hope someone enjoys it:

Her kisses burn across my face, I know she's wrong for me.
I cannot hold back and lack of passion feeds the blind.
Her soft skin and craving eyes, I know I'm not supposed to,
Then comes the rush that closes my eyes and we kiss away.

She leaves her mark somewhere inside, not very deep, but still.
She says I'm only doing this for me, and I know what she means.
It could have been with anyone, it wouldn't have mattered at all.
I felt nothing, neither did she, we only kissed to feed the blind.

So brief and meaningless was the passion that we shared.
So fine and innocent, a single word would have torn it all apart.
I've tried to picture me, my life and what I've never had,
Please don't reject me even if the picture turns out sad.

This is my life and I have lived through ups and downs.
    I know I'm not a wise man but I'm neither a clown.
And for the first time in my life I really can't tell good from bad.
I hear what you say but I will cherish the brief moments we had.

Is it a world of hurt where people meet to feed the blind,
Close the doors for all mankind if only for the briefest time?
Forget and give yourself away, whatever can I say.
Is this a world of hurt with people crawling through the dirt?
For the first time in my life I really don't know so help me out,
I know that I'm blind so please feed me, I need it so badly.
I don't need wings to reach the sky
And I don't need hands to hold you tight...

I've been digging on the latest Cynic release lately "Carbon Based Anatomy." It's not a Metal album whatsoever; just straightforward Progressive Rock. But these guys are doing it right (IMO), they're focusing on catchy melody more than their musicianship. Those that arent aware Cynic are/were a progressive Death Metal band. They've dropped all the Death Metal trappings for this latest EP, but to me it doesnt loose anything by doing that.

    Enjoy

Blackfoot is one of my favorite bands, and they are always on a regular rotation on my CD player/play lists. It's a shame they are so underrated in the eyes of the public, because most of their material is just as good or even better than the classics of their peer like Skynyrd. Blackfoot probably strikes me the most of all the Southern Rock acts, and it might be because of how they incorporate much heavier elements to the typical Southern Rock sound. I think a good definition of their sound would be Southern Hard Rock

Marauder is their strongest effort in my books, and the following track is the absolute crown jewel of their whole cataloque:

"The consequence of conscience/Is that you'll be left somewhere/Swinging in the air"-Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) R.I.P. King Of Metal
"Just take a look around you what do you see/Pain, suffering, and misery/It's not the way that the world was planned/It's a pity you don't understand" - Geezer Butler
"If god is in heaven/How can this happen here" - Phil Lynott (1949-1986)

Firebird is a band I first got acquainted with earlier this year and remember being very impressed. But for some reason I had forgotten about them, until yesterday when I miraculously remembered the band and headed to YouTube. And I'm glad I did.

They are a fairly newish band, founded in 1999. Best description of their sound would be "Heavy Blues Rock". Their latest effort, "Double Diamond", is one of the best albums I've heard from the last few decades, an album that I recommend you all to check out. Here's one of the album's finest cuts:

I think it's bit ironic that the singer/guitarist is also a member of the extreme metal outfits Napalm Death and Carcass

Somewhat well known by the metal crowd, but still not given much attention, I've been listening to Uriah Heep lately.

Great song. I hadn't listened to it for a long time. Salisbury is a great album too that's not really given the credit it deserves. One to dig out again, I think.

Glad to hear you liked their sound. And that's not a bad comparison at all, although Firebird sounds much more interesting than Badlands to my ears.

Here's another rocking Firebird song from their 2009 effort "Grand Union":

I saw Firebird twice this year at the George in Andover. Second time me and my mate chatted to Bill Steer for a few minutes after the show - absolutely top bloke, asked us where we were from (Salisbury) and then he said "oh you must know Paul Di'anno then.... Maiden with Di'anno was my first ever gig" etc. Really nice open chap, and Firebird absolutely rule!

This is from the last Rush album I really liked and bought new, Signals.

This song could have been about me, and indeed the kid in the video looks a lot like I did in 1982.

Thanks, guys, for resurrecting this thread. I love the song Subdivisions. Hard to believe it's been 29 years since the release of the Signals album. I remember it like it was yesterday. Yet I cannot remember yesterday at all.

Kind of along the same train of thought (and era)...this is from what I regard as Billy Joel's best album, The Nylon Curtain.

This could easily describe my day-to-day life, and the little boy in the vid looks a bit like I did at that age.

Can't say i'm really that much into electronica, but there's some stuff i like. As long as it doesn't have the typical "thump-thump" techno-beat.
Infected Mushroom are great, ofcourse (well, they're considered Goa-trance i guess, but you get my drift...), and the Norwegian band R鰕ksopp's got some good tunes.

R鰕ksopp (with Erlend 貀e of Kings of Convenience) - Remind Me:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eo4u4JJAPGk&ob=av2e

R鰕ksopp (with Karin Dreijer Andersson of The Knife) - What Else Is There?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLpkXtM-VI8

This is a tune from the band Underworld. First time i heard this tune i had just smoked a big bong, and i was blown away.

    Underworld - Trim:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9L1hOZdzD0

A little advise; smoke a joint before you listen to it, if you're into that sort of things...

Edit: I forgot to mention the Swedish band The Knife, which is probably the best of them all. Especially the album Deep Cuts.

    The Knife - Heartbeats:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wcv3v6XfEvM (Check out the cool video)

Weird thing about this post, i put the least good first and the best last.

I have/had Sonic Attack on vinyl, bought late 1982. Possibly tossed (cries tears of agony), or else tucked away safely in the garage.

    Heads Apart http://www.myspace.com/headsapart

    Bio:
Heads Apart are a 5 piece Melodic Hardcore band from Peterborough England first formed in October of 1993 by three longstanding friends Sean Dunleavy Rich 'Angus' Mackman and Rob Baylis.

They swiftly recorded their first seminal 4 song demo and with the addition of phenomenal bassist Jason Greensides (then only 16) and 2nd guitarist Danny Frost (Rich & Danny had previously played together with Gizz Butt and Pinch in Metal mavericks Monkey Jungle and then the first line up of a re-formed English Dogs) and proceeded to leave a path of confrontational fun filled mayhem across many an east anglian club & pub and beyond.

By December 1994 they had released their 2nd demo the "No Spinach EP" and having secured financial backing from a long time friend of the band Del Taylor, they entered Backstage Studios Derby in July of 1995 with rising producer Andy Sneap (Arch Enemy, Exodus, Machine Head) and chopped out their debut album "Feisty" in a mere 5 days- A notable achievement as this was the first self financed full length CD by any Peterborough band.

Feisty garnered a 4/5 review in Kerrang Magazine and an international distribution deal with Cargo Records. Heads Apart went on to gig extensively througout 1996, being featured in literally hundreds of UK & European fanzines and narrowly missing out on a recording opportunity with Fat Wreck Chords.

But by 1997 things had moved on, Rich had quit the band for his new venture The Vow and Jason Greensides had also left to pursue a career in film making and media studies. Stu West (currently bassist with the Damned) was recruited and a 2nd album "7 Day Weekend" was recorded, but was never made available for national release.

Although Heads Apart have been on an indefinate hiatus since 2001 musical liasons still occur- Sean Dan & Rich play together in a particularly nasty Sex Pistols Tribute - Filthy Lucre - and Rob continues to play drums most recently with reformed 70s Punk stalwarts The Destructors 666. Rich also plays bass for Power Pop /Garage act The Contrast who's 7th album The God Of Malfunction was released on Steven Van Zandt's WickedCool Record label in April of 2010. .. ..
