Haven't heard the entire Born Again album just 30 second samples off amazon. An I just bought "The Eternal Idol" Deluxe Expanded Edition the other day An I love it. I'd also heard that he had cancer from somewhere, but I'm not sure. I know I have always heard Aids too, that's why it caught me off guard when I either read or heard it.

No, Ray never had cancer... He died of aids, period. Man was a healthy chap all the way, he didn't even drink beer on regular basis... His usual drink was ice tea lol

There were some mystery's about his death. When he died, even Glenn Hughes dind't know it was AIDS that caused Gillen's death. What I once read in a interview, Hughes even denied the "rumor" Gillen died of AIDS on MTV.

Ray's illness was a private issue for everyone, man, only his most dear friends knew about it. If in 2011 the prejudice about AIDS is huge, imagine in the early 90's when it was called "gay cancer". Thats why I think is understandable that a man who make his living through his appearance to keep this subject private. I don't think his shows would sell too many tickets if the audience knew a man with aids was there, singing, not at that year.

Here, lemme drop some Ray trivia here: you guys knew that after Rob Halford drop by and save the day at Costa Mesa, in 1992, Ray Gillen stood at his house for some days? If my memory is right, he was there with his former girlfriend, Daisy. According to Halford, Ray was one of the best guys he ever knew.

When Ray first died I think Kerrang! said it was "stomach cancer brought on by AIDS-related complications" or something like that.
He is not here. He has risen!

I played a couple of times with his former bandmate in Badlands, Greg Chaisson (bass), and he confirmed that it was AIDS/HIV also.

As a side note, Greg rewrote the lyrics to Badlands' song "The River" from the Dusk album and recorded it on his own solo album It's About Time as a tribute to Ray after his death:

Do you have the lyrics to this song, Trog? Greg said in a recent interview that he felt that lyrics to this song, originally written by Ray Gillen, were autobiographical.
If that's so, it seems to imply that the "Brother John" in the song was possibly Ray's uncle, Nelson Bellber, who died at age 39 and who was close with Ray, and also a "major heroin user," according to Ray. (Ray had no siblings, so that's why I'm surmising this.) Do you think that Greg is implying that Ray had possibly used heroin and acquired AIDS that way, possibly from this aforementioned uncle?

In Greg's lyrics, song by another one of Ray's friends, the great singer, Rob Lamothe, it says "Jesus, Lord, forgive him." Do you think that Greg is implying that he thinks Ray perhaps had negligently infected some women with AIDS?

Do you know what became of Daisy or some of his other girlfriends, Ray Rules? I saw on this site that Daisy had been making comments on the now defunct site raygillen.com in 2005, so are we to presume that she did not contract HIV/AIDS? According to Eddie Trunk, lawsuits by alleged AIDS-death victims' families against the Ray Gillen estate are preventing the release of some of the Badlands albums. Do you think there is any merit to these cases? Do you know of any women who contracted AIDS after being with Ray Gillen? (Not that it could be definitely proven to be from him; though, in the eyes of the law, it is illegal to sleep with someone when you have AIDS without informing them first.)

What a voice and energy Ray Gillen had, I got into him through the Black Sabbath Deluxe Editions.
"Without Black Sabbath there never would have been an Ozzy, and without Ozzy there never would have been a Black Sabbath"
"If there ever was a band whose voice is so significant and distinct, that band is Black Sabbath and the voice is Ozzy Osbourne"

If I recall correctly from 'Metal Edge' magazine at the time I believe Ray had contracted pneumonia that was "reportedly AIDS related". A tragic loss to the hard rock world without question. R.I.P. Ray ( ).

The stomach ulcer was caused by AIDS, so it would still be AIDS related.
