    Default I'm in love

Hung out in a music shop where a friend of mine works for a few hours at monday, waiting for him to get off work. So i just spent the time testing guitars & basses. There i found a Fender Special Baritone. (I'm currently playing rythm baritone in a band, and i own a Yamaha Drop6).
I've never really been a Fender-guy, always been Gibson, but this one. Oh my god... Shaped like a Fender Jaguar. And it had so clean feeling while playing it. It cost 9600 Nok, about 1600$, so it's way out of reach, but some day... My Yamaha was probably some 6-700$ new, i don't know, i bought it for a very special price. But, man you'd really feel a big difference from 600$ to 1600$. I'm so in love, i just had to rant about it somewhere...

    Check this beauty out:

Another affair i've been having lately is John Lennons 59' Gibson Special, known from Live in New York City.
It's something with the mix of the cherry finish and the black pick-guard. And i've been very fond of flat Les Pauls for a while.

So the other day in the shop, i saw this Les Paul Junior in the same style. Very strange playing that small neck, especially since i'm mostly used to playing bass and baritone at the moment. Felt like i was playing an ukulele. But it was cool too, when i'd get used to it, there would be some places where that short neck could be useful. And it was only 6000 Nok, 1000$, i'll probably save up for that one first, since i've got a baritone that works well, but my regular guitar sucks, so i really need a new one.

Someone else who's had a big romance lately?

These guitars look beautiful, I'm not a guitar player but my favorite is the Fender Jaguar, so I really liked the look of the first one :D My most recent affair must be the Minimoog Voyager which I recently got a chance to play, it just struck me how great it looks and sounds. One of the first things I played was the intro to Rainbows "Tarot Woman" and instantly I felt that I really never wanted to leave the store haha ^^. I know you probably expected guitar pics, but hey, keyboards are awesome as well

I've always liked the Jaguar too, also it's predecessor Jazzmaster, and followup Mustang, in a guitar point-of-view. If i ever was going to buy a Fender, it would have to be one of these. Or a really good telecaster. Otherwise i'd just go for Gibson. Les Paul for a heavy/thick guitar, SG for a thin ("telecaster"'ish) sound, but still heavy, Thunderbird for a good heavy, but clear bass. But i've never tried any Gibson baritones yet, so right now, on the baritone-issue, i'm all Fender.

John Entwistle (of The Who) did something i'd like to try some day. He put the neck from a Fender P-Bass on a Thunderbird, calling it Fenderbird... With the heavy body of a thunderbird with the clair, punctuating neck of the Precision-Bass, it must've sound awsome!

The day i'm rich i'm going to buy a good old Hammond, a melotrone, and one of the nice old moogs. I always like playing arond with things. But my shop-list untill then is: A new guitar, a new baritone, A better amp (which a friend of my will build like a good old amp, only cheaper), a new bass (my 2000 EB-0 works fine, but it's tender) & amp (once again custom built amp), two drumkits, one big to be my main, one smaller which i can do more technical stuff on. A studio..
So the keys are a long way down the line... But some day... ;-)

I just continue to have a love affair with my SG, yes it is an Epiphone but it is the 64 reissue and it has two humbuckers and it's sound quality is just..!!!

But just this week I brought a 30W valve amplifier of a brand none other then Laney!!!!! I pick it up tomorrow and I am so excited! When I pick it up I'm dropping my Fender Strat off to get a humbucker dropped into the bridge so hopefully the guitar with have a little more kick!
Won't you help me Mr. Jesus?

Let us know about your experience with the laney, i've always wondered what the new Laney's are like.

A new little affair of mine:

A Fender Jaguar standard/baritone double-neck. Would be handy, as i'll jump alot back and forth between regular guitars and baritone alot.
Found this beauty when looking for something like this, and it really looks nice.
A bit of a big body, maybe, so it might feel awkward while playing the baritone, but it's probably just something one'd have to get used to.
Will probably have to carve a bit out of the body so i can fit a humbucker, especially on the baritone-part
Also found the same model with baritone/fretless bass double neck, which also looked very interesting...

I was wrong in my last post. The baritone/fretless bass wasn't a Fender, but a Maxetone.
    Still looks pretty sweet, though...

Thought it was time to bump this thread as today is the day when I finally got to bring home my most recent purchase, a vintage Eminent Solina String Ensemble. This is the synth that opens "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" with those incredible strings and imo the greatest chorus effect known to mankind. However, since it's so very limited, I mean it seriously only does strings, it's not too expensive. I even got one in extremely great shape, both in how it looks and how it sounds! Needless to say, I'm in love and couldn't be happier right now!

    _______

A friend of mine resently got one of the supposedly first portable Hammonds. For free! Cause the dude who owned it was moving or didn't have the space for it or something..
The amp is a bit f***d up, but it works fine for jammin' (oh, how many nights i've either done the keys or playing guitar along with someone else on the keys).

I'll have to check out the model, and maybe find a pic of it so you know what i'm talking about...

I love old keyboards, though i only pretend to know how to play them...

---------- Post added at 04:41 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:13 PM ----------

Sooo, i just had to call the guy to find out about it. The organ is a Hammond X5.
The amp on the other hand is probably not the original, the only info on it is it says "Super X250" and it has an effect-button which says "space-sound" (which don't work, btw... ) They've (he and my belowed guitar&electronics-expert who's living in the same house) have been trying to research it without any luck. Maybe you know something about it?

No new love in sight for me, I'm sort of married to my trusty Tokai ALS-48 BB 500€ guitar, but the tone (after pup change) and the playability are top notch. I don't feel any need to upgrade at the moment. Especially after installing Gotoh Magnum Lock tuners three years ago. Handy system, if I happen to break a string during a gig (not that I've had many gigs or have any ahead of at the moment). And I don't think I've broken a string for years already, after changing to Ernie Ball strings.

I do dream about acquiring a Strat though, with an olympic white or cream finish. Don't have the money for that at the moment though, and I have more important purchases in my mind (a new 4x12 cab, possibly a new PA system, a Stetsbar Pro II for my LP etc...).

Strat is such a versatile instrument, and it would be nice to have a single coil guitar in addition to my Tokai LP. Well, I do have a cheap Squier strat (my first electric guitar), but it is what it is

I'm getting a new guitar though, one that nobody else has. An acquaintance of my father - who is a really proficient carpenter and enthustastic music fan - is making me a guitar. He has made numerous guitars before, and the one I tested was good locking and felt really sturdy as well. He uses some finnish wood which name I can't remember at the moment, so it will be unique in that aspect too. It's body shape will be somewhere in between of a strat and EVH's Wolfgang. When the time comes, I'll probably ask him to fit it with P-90 pick-ups, again for the sake of versatility. But it will take time before he gets to that point, he has just started the work with the body

And the best thing? He only charges for the parts, he does the work purely for enjoyment!

Truly I am in love with this guitar that provides me utmost comfort in playing music. It is my mode of entertainment through which I could be able to play any kind of music without any hassle. And of course its music is awesome.

I have little knowledge in the world of old hammond organs, mainly because I realize it will take me a long time to get one. I already have an acoustic piano, getting another instrument I just cannot move myself doesn't seem like the smartest move I could make :D Funny that you mentioned the X-5 though, there is one for sale here in Sweden for about the same price as I got my Solina for (http://vend.se/ad.php?135167), kinda cool that it has a built-in spring reverb! Is it working on your friends organ?

I've never heard of that amp before, but my best guess is that the "space-sound" is an attempt at creating a leslie-effect without the actual rotation? Anyway, I also love old keyboards, though not only because they have the vintage sound. I mean, no matter how dumb it might sound, the Solina was actually in a way the best keyboard I could buy. I needed string sounds, not organ/piano/clav/synth, just great synth strings. None of the VA/poly-analog synths of today even come close, for THE SAME amount of money or even more. As long as that's the case, there's no question about it for me :D

The thing about the X-5 is it's demountable, so if you want an old hammond, but still be able to move it around, i'd say go for it. Might need some help with the amp, though...

I've got no idea what that is, and neither do they. We just press the buttons till it sounds cool...

It does actually rotate, but i think the thing is it isn't rotating quite right. Probably one of the reasons the guy got it for free.

Yeah I guess, though I'm so happy with the organ sound in my digital keyboard that I don't think it's worth it at this point Getting a leslie speaker might be, but those are also hard to move and very expensive. Other than that I'd love to replace my digital keyboard with a real organ, but if I REALLY should replace it I also need a Hohner Clavinet D6 and a Fender Rhodes at least... you see where this is going, infinity :D Playing 20 minute gigs with that set-up is not even a joke anymore, it's just crazy haha :D

Oh, that's still cool though. My brother had this crazy idea to build a rotating speaker from a turntable... I still wonder if that's possible... I'm hoping to be able to learn some more about amps as well as keyboards, hopefully I'll be able to learn how to maintain and repair at least some aspects of my Solina in the future for example. If I succeed in that, I might actually be able to go from there and in x years be able to actually construct what we talked about in a thread you created a while ago: An analog synth with a key between every key, able to play a chromatic scale with quartertones... It's very far ahead, but it might be possible one day ^^

A new love have dropped into my mind. Or rather an idča. I'm want to buy a cello. But not to play it in the regular way. I'll equip it with a pick-up so i can plug it into an amp, turn on the fuzz, tune it like a bass(/guitar), hold it like a guitar (Peter Steele-style) and make it a Hard Rock instrument. I might even consider using a pick instead of a bow.
The idča is using it like a rythm guitar in a band.

Oh, all these crazy idčas one can come up with.. If i only had the money to realize them...
