Dubstep kinda makes me wanna barf. Don't really consider it music. I mean, Skrillex is *kinda* cool, but it just sounds fake in the long run. I guess my main problem is anyone can do it and it's like an easy cash in. I've got a friend whose made his own dubstep (but that's okay, it was out of Elmo's World.) Took him like, an hour.

I can appreciate how people might think it's fun music or whatever, in some ways it is, but ultimately I can't really stand it.

I can respect your opinion on the "sounds like an easy cash in" part, but it most definitely is music, it fits the very definition of the word music.

Regardless though, I love it. Sounds fuckin' filthy, and that's what I love in music.

The closest I get to dubstep is Korn's work with some of it's artist on their new Path to Totality album. I must admit I really enjoyed Get Up! and Narcissistic Cannibal for what they were. I will also admit Skrillex can occasionally hold my attention. The problem with the genre is like said above is that it's an easy cash-in that doesn't particularly show talent all that well. Some people I know say that there is 5% of decent dubstep, and the other 95% is shit. And to be fair, I think that it's a fairly honest interpretation of the genre. I'm not a fan yet and I for the most part doubt I ever will be. For those who enjoy it, more power to you, I don't hear it personally.

Yeah, that's basically what I feel about it. If you like it, good for you, that's more music you like, but I personally can barely stand it!

It's just a different way of orchestrating I think, lots of cool possibilities with it. I've heard some I liked, some that seems crappy, just like with any genre. But in general, I'm all for it.

Indeed, I like it. I know it sounds like noise, or whatnot to some people, but then again I'm sure some people think the same thing about "that devil's rock and roll", so whatevs. I just think it's interesting, compositionally tbh.

I personally can't stand it, I've tried to give it some listens but it really doesn't move me in any way. The only images this music provides me with is some kind of dull, soulless disco where people go to have fun because they don't know how to. I really hate that sound that they all use, that kind of looped chainsaw-ish thing, but I can't blame the genre for "all sounding the same", that would be ridiculous. As ridiculous as saying all rock sounds the same cos of the distorted guitars :D

So yeah, emotionally every fibre of my body is just screaming of rejection. On the a bit more objective level I think it can be interesting to see how they do when they choose their samples to work with. As long as the song isn't "all about the beat" I can't dismiss it as unintelligent. I can respect someone who makes a horrible song but puts lots of time and emotion into the details. Clearly then they see something in it that I don't. However since I am so uneducated in the genre, it all sounds the same to me ^^

Never really checked out this genre before, but i took a quick listen to the tunes you posted here, and i must say, i really liked the brutal harsh sound of it, but i still feel there's too much techno/trance elements in there, and even a bit dancehall (with the chipmunk smurf autotune-voice used here and there).
No, i must say i do prefer the original Dub.

But ofcourse, with alot of ecstasy this would probably've sounded awsome!

I think what enjoyment of it I have comes from my enjoyment of industrial metal from over the years. Bands such as 2wo, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM and Skinny Puppy are all bands I still enjoy listening to and have some music of, so I think that has influenced me enough to enjoy some of it that I do. I do admit it can be really repetitive in many instances which is irritating and Skrillex's voice in particular I've always hated, so I think I will be able to enjoy some of it with the more chances that I give it.

I can't stand most industrial metal--maybe that explains it

So I have a dubstep project underway! If there's enough interest I will post some tracks.

Doesn't look like it... then again I bet SOMEONE is interested in hearing your dubstep project, so if I was you I would post a link to it in a new thread anyway. Honestly I won't listen to it cos I can't stand dubstep, but I think others might enjoy it so why not? :D
