Thread: Iommi Fused

    Default Iommi Fused

Im always surprised at the lack of attention or comments given to iommi's fused album. Has to be one of THE most underated albums. Was there not alot of promo for it or something or is it just that way in the u.s. and its popular everywhere else? I do remember at the ozzfest during the same year they had a semi trailer with graphics for fused painted on it. I wish he wouldve played second stage or something and showcased it. I think alot of peolple not knowing about it would have been surprised how good it is. Sounds very up to date with what was out there at that time.
I think its a great album that sounds totally like him but nothing like sabbath. Alot of musicians put out solo albums that either sound like there original band with them more in the front but weaker songs or go of the deep end trying to prove they can play other things. This one does neither. Just sounds like a badass new band. Sound quality/production is awesome too. Sad some short run tour couldn't have been done. Some of glenns best stuff too.
I still listen to it all the time! Any one else's thoughts on this album?

100% agree . His first solo album is amazing too . Not the same feeling . First , Glenn ' s presence is quality assurance and his previous productions with Tony have always been masterpieces ( Seventh Star and "8 th Star" ) .Bob Marlette production restores a fabulous sound and the work of Kenny Aronoff's just monstrous .Tony was able to connect the power and melody with the right mix . I re-listened to it a few days ago , and it' s always the same pleasure .

I don't know if it's underrated here so much. But in the general metal community I don't think it gets much acknowledgement, which is frustrating. It's a surprisingly great album with equal hooks, and power. I disagree that it doesn't have a Sabbath vibe; The Spell, What You're Living For, Resolution Song (among others) all have tons of Sabbath atmosphere. But it has it's own vibe as well, and Glenn's vocals are so great next to the riffs. This is my favorite collaboration with those two for sure.

As for promotion, I recall Tony talking about taking that album on the road at one point. But the activity revolving around The Dio Years album & ultimately Heaven & Hell pulled him in the other direction.
"From the book, the word is spoken. Whispers from forgotten psalms. Gather all around the young ones. They will make us strong. Reach above your dreams of pleasure
Given life to those who died. Look beyond your own horizons. Sail the ship of signs."

I tried to listen to this album many times because I wanted to like it. The songs are good, the production a bit too slick for my liking, but I find the vocal style dreadful, i can't really stand it, specially on the opening track. I'm not familiar with Glenn's latest material, so i don't know if that is his usual style nowadays, but it sounds a bit forced to me, almost fake. And painful to listen to really. Sorry.
I am happy somebody else enjoys it though.

Hit Parader & Metal Edge magazines had a half page ad. Iommi appeared on MTV2 Headbanger's Ball in support of it. I heared some of the songs on satilite radio channels a few times. Iommi did severial radio interviews behind it. So it did get some push in the rock world. Without a music video it's kinda hard to promote it on much tv.

Yea i kinda know what you mean about glenn hughes, i personally dont notice so much on this album but i will say live he can definitely tend to over sing sometimes to the point where its almost embarrasing. (Not to mention the prancing around stuff).
