Default The Iron Man sports the Iron Men

You may have to click on the link, it won't show up on my preview. Anyway, I know he referenced the band in the 2nd movie by saying in court, "I am Iron Man" don't know if the band was referenced in the first movie b/c I haven't seen any of them.

I saw the trailer for one of the movies in the theater where they used the titular song's first few seconds of gloriously ominous intervals with string bending (before the effected vocal intro) as a musical cue. I thought that was a pretty judicious use of the music, not the obvious riff. Never saw the movie, so I'm not sure if that made it into the movie or not.

The last line of the first movie was "I am Iron Man" and it transitioned straight into (a cover of...) the song for the credits.

Fun fact: In the comics Tony Stark actually named himself after the Sabbath song.

The song IM was played as credit music in the first movie. And I just saw The Avengers (Iron Man is in this movie too). Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man) sports a Sabbath Tshirt with the new tour NSD face. Pretty cool! lmL

The design used for the shirt was pretty smart. The flight suit references the Iron Man armour and the triangle on the forehead references the arc reactor in his chest. Even the album title is an in-joke, since the arc reactor (and by extension Iron Man) are what keep Tony alive.

I thought sabbath named the song after the comic book hero.

According to wikipedia the song and character have no relation but I seem to recall a sabb saying that the song was inspired by the character

That's not what he's saying. Obviously the Iron Man character came first (1963).

In one of the comic series (I don't know which), Tony Stark (Iron Man) chooses the name 'Iron Man' because of the Black Sabbath song.

Marvel uses a sliding timeline for their comics, which has everything subtlely shift forward. So even though originally Tony Stark became Iron Man in 1963, well before Black Sabbath formed, in the current stories hes only been Iron Man since the late 90s. So now its established that Sabbath is Tony's favourite band and that he named himself Iron Man in tribute.

Ok thanks for clarifying. But what about the song, was it comic-book inspired??

No. Geezer came up with it. The title came from Ozzy hearing the riff: "It sounds like a big Iron bloke walking around".
Well I don’t want no preacher telling me about the god in the sky
No I don’t want no one to tell me where I’m gonna go when I die
I wanna live my life, I don’t want people telling me what to do
I just believe in myself, ’cause no one else is true

Is it odd that I never even noticed the Black Sabbath shirt in the movie?

Yes, even if you were stoned you should have noticed it. Now give me two Iron Man's and one The Writ.
