    Default Budgie

Any fans of the Welsh wonders Budgie here?

I love the early albums with Tony Bourge, they are among my favourite 70's releases, especially 'Bandolier'

Obviously, despite the fact they never had any huge commercial success, they have had some considerable influence, with songs covered by Metallica, Soundgarden and Iron Maiden, and artists such as Megadeth, Pentagram, Cirith Ungol and Firebird all singing their praises.

As pioneers of metal go, they deserve some respect I think. Either way, they were a great band.

Tony Bourge was a hell of a guitar player! I have Bandolier and Never Turn Your Back On A Friend- both great albums. It is too bad they never (and still don't) got the rep they were looking for. One of my favorite bands.

I love Budgie! Waaaaaaaaaay underrated and one of my favorite bands of all time. Tony Bourge has influenced me greatly.

Oh, he is a legend IMO, hugely undervalued. He could do heavy as well as anyone, and he did more subtle stuff like 'Parents' too. I just listened to 'Impeckable' and the Tredegar album earlier, not quite as inspired as early Budgie, but there was great variety in his playing.

Such a pity he wasn't involved in the gigs from recent years. I like Craig Goldy, but he wasn't a great match, nor was Simon Lees. I liked Big John Thomas during his stints with the band though. Not quite as interesting as Bourge, but a more than decent player.
