Default Black Sabbath book news X2

    FIRSTLY -

Black Sabbath and Philosophy: Mastering Reality (The Blackwell Philosophy and Pop Culture Series) [Paperback]

    http://www.amazon.com/Black-Sabbath-...8328017&sr=8-7

Pre-ordering now for about $11, will retail for $18 when it's out, currently scheduled for October 2012.

From Amazon: "A philosophical look at heavy metal's dark masters of reality, Black Sabbath.
Black Sabbath is one of the world's most influential and enduring rock bands. Dubbed "the Beatles of heavy metal" by Rolling Stone, they helped to define a genre with classic songs like "Paranoid", "Iron Man", and "War Pigs", songs whose lyrics reveal hidden depth and philosophical insight. Their songs confront existential despair, social instability, political corruption, the horrors of war, and the nature of evil. This book explores the wide range of profound ideas in the band's music and lyrics to help you understand Black Sabbath as never before.

    - Discusses and debates essential Black Sabbath topics and themes, such as the problem of evil, "War Pigs" and the nature of just war theory, whether or not Sabbath is still Sabbath without Ozzy, and whether "evil is in the ear of the beholder"
    - Gives you new perspectives on Black Sabbath's music and lyrics
    - Provides a deeper appreciation and understanding of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and Ronnie James Dio (((Fuck Tony M and Glenn, I guess, eh? - PAULIE)))
    - Brings some of history's heaviest thinkers to bear on the band's music, from Aristotle and Nietzsche to Schopenhauer and Marx

    --------------------------

SECONDLY - I was just reading a new interview with Bev Bevan (from late 2011, but just published two weeks ago), who had this to say: "My good friend Tony Iommi has just released a book called ‘Iron Man’, which is a terrific read actually, and came out in hardback just before Christmas. The paperback comes out I think in July or August but so does the talking book CD and you can download it from all sorts of places, and they’ve asked me to narrate the book. So, that’s a first – I’ve never been a narrator before!"

So it looks like there'll be an audio book for Iron Man then.

    All the best,
    PAULIE

That sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a read. I love philosophy and I'm always analyzing things, so I'll probably enjoy it. When the book comes out, someone should send a copy to Geezer and ask him what he thinks of the author's interpretations.

Just because Tony Martin isn't mentioned in the description doesn't mean he won't be mentioned in the book. Of course, he still probably won't, but we can always hope.

As for the Iron Man audio book, I would ideally like Iommi himself to read it, but he's busy enough. I never really liked the idea of autobiographies read by someone else (unless they're from the 1800s or something, that's understandable) but it'll be interesting to hear Bev Bevan read. It'll probably be weird to be talking about himself from the POV of someone else.

I empathize with enemies until we’re dying right

Bev has just finished narrating Tony's "Iron Man" audio book.

And, he's just started writing a book called "Inside Move," recounting the history of The Move.

    All the best,

Another update from Tony on Twitter which pointed to this info at the Iommi site:

    Audio Book now available

    11th December 2012

Good news, the audio version of my book is now available, taken a bit of time but we've all been busy! I had a go myself but wasn't comfortable when I listened back. Normally you just get an actor to voice it but I didn't want someone who didn't know me or the music business so I asked my old mate Bev Bevan as he already has a radio show and lived some of the chapters with me! I'm really pleased how it's turned out.

    SO! Here's the link to Iommi.com, http://www.iommi.com/index.php?story=177
where he links to a clip of Bev talking about doing it, and there's also a link to Amazon to buy the audio book and hear samples.

    All the best,
    PAULIE

    And holy cow, it's long!
