Default Why the hate against "Breakout"?

I think it's a fucking great tune, one of the best from NSD!. Cool riff, cool with the horns following the riff, great drum-beat, a cool time-change in the riff, and a fucking awsome sax-solo. What's not to like?
I'm actually a bit glad that Ozzy refused to sing on it.
It fits well as an intro to Swinging The Chain too.
I can understand some might find it a bit repetitive, but hey, it's only two and a half minutes long...

for me, it is the weakest song on the album, but i still can't understand the hate. I like jazzy songs like that. Maybe people can't stand it, because it is too jazzy?

For me this one really epitomises everything that's wrong with Never Say Die...it just does not sound like Black Sabbath at all. And the saxophone...worst idea ever.

    Horrible track on a horrible album...hate it I do...indeed.

But No Stranger to Love, The Illusion of Power or Get a Grip do? Hmm...

But ofcourse, you're allowed to hate it, i just can't understand why.
Like most of you can't understand why i hate Dio, Huges and T. Martin-Sabbath, i guess...

Well granted No Strange To Love is bit out there as well...very 80s sounding...actually the only really 80s sounding track Tony's ever done...don't like it either.

But Illusion Of Power has a strong riff as does Get A Grip...so both of them have the good old Sabbath signature right there.

But if you would put on any of the first 3 Sabbath albums and play them to someone who doesn't know Sabbath and then after that put on Breakdown there is no way in hell they would ever imagine it's from the same band...that's all I'm saying.

Well, if you play Love Me Do and Please Please Me to someone who've never heard Beatles, then played them I Am The Walrus, Tomorrow Never Knows or Within You Without You (just to name a few), they would probably not belive it's the same band either. Everybody evolves.

(Not trying to argue here, though it might seem like it.)

I'm just trying to defend what i think is a really cool song

No problem...if you llike the song that's cool...

To me Sabbath didn't really evolve..more like regressed really...from an awesome band to an almost bad band...luckily they realised it themselves too.

True. From 1979 it really went downhill, getting worse and worse, until they in the mid 90's realised it and brought Ozzy back

What about Pink Floyd? Morphine? There's alot of great music made with sax. Even Gwar used Sax at a point early on.

Hey it's not the best thing they have done I hated it when I was younger but I kinda like it now. It beats Illusion Of Power. Never Say Die is a fantastic album. I can see why people who love Journey, Joe Lynn Turner and Manowar would hate it.

Well I feel like I have to elaborate here...I actually do like the saxophone as an instrument...lots of great Jazz music that features the sax..even some rockier stuff...

    But in Black Sabbath...no...just no.

Charger is right. I love saxophone and i love jazz but that track seemed so out of place on that album it sounded weird. You could tell they didnt care.

I agree with Billy Underdog. Great track on its own, and also makes a good intro to Swinging the Chain. I think the sax riff is great, as is the solo.

I play in a Sabbath tribute band and we currently use Breakout as part of our intro, we have it cross faded into Supertzar which fades just before we come in. It's fun looking at people's faces. Half of them know its Sabbath the other half are totally confused!

I love breakout and i love saxophone, it' s always been part of r&r. That' s why i think the seventies albums were better than the later ones, they were unpredictable and experimental, I hope the new one will retain some of that spirit.

I love all of the songs on Never Say Die! People complain because it 'doesn't sound like Black Sabbath' but part of what I like about the album is the experimentation. They tried new things instead of staying in their comfort zone. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was experimental too. I don't think an artist should be held back by what they are percieved to be by their fans. If Black Sabbath wanted to do an instrumental prog rock album, I'd be all for it, as long as they're doing what they want to. Artists always should explore new things in my opinion.

Every one of Sabbath's albums were experimental, it's just that certain experiments were successful and others were on TE and NSD!

    Exactly. Could not agree more.

I've said it before - MUSIC fans like NSD. Narrow-minded Metal fans don't. There will be a few exceptions to this rule, but generally it's true.

Nice instrumental. Not really a Sabbath song but it has a nice heavy mood. I'm used to it like FX on Vol4
