Forgive me if this is common knowledge here...
Quartz is a NWOBHM band probably most known for their 1980 album Stand Up and Fight. I liked the title track, but not much else. However, on their first, self titled album, from 1977, Geoff Nichols was a part of the band. He played some keys, but his main role was as guitarist! There was also another guitarist, and they make good use of the twin guitar attack. The harmonies don't so much come from the leads like so many 80s bands, but more from the riffs, which I think is interesting. But the novelty of long time Black Sabbath keyboardist playing guitar is NOT the only reason to hear this. This is high quality stuff. Really catchy, great guitar riffs. I have no idea who wrote what guitar lines, between Geoff and Mick Hopkins (the other guitar player), but whoever did did a fantastic job. I just got this on CD recently and I think it's the best music purchase I've made in a long time. Here are a couple songs:
Quartz - Hustler
Quartz - Pleasure Seekers
And for another Sabbath connection, the album was produced by Tony Iommi! I think it's far better than that Necromandus album, I think that was produced by Tony. Whatever.
According to metal-archives.com, Quartz reunited in 2011, including Geoff! This may be interesting...
