Default Olympics Opening/Closing Ceremony - will we see bands/muscians playing?

Last time in Beijing we had Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis performing Whole Lotta Love.

    And today I saw this:

So, if someone is going to perform at the opening or closing ceremony, who do you want ?

I've heard rumours of a supergroup containing Lady Gaga, Eddie the Eagle on guitar, Karl Pilkington on bass and Bill Ward. Seems like this is the reason Wardie can't be involved in Sabbath right now...

Bill Ward?? That's a strange line up.

Well, seemingly the Olympics are more important than the Sabbath-reunion...

He can't, but he sure as hell can play the drums.

That's why he's probably the one who's playing drums on the new Sabbath-album...

I'd have loved to see Duran Duran.

I was a little disappointed that in the section celebrating British music there weren't a few bars at least of heavy rock / metal. Anything really - just a few seconds from one of Sabbath, Priest, Purple, Zeppelin or Maiden would've been reasonable. A whole genre once again ignored.

Overall though I was pleased with the bands chosen. In recent British events there seems to be a habit of trotting out the same old shit. Glad we didn't have to sit through the usual Gary Barlow, Elton John, Jessie J, JLS etc. By comparison it was good to see the Arctic Monkeys. Could've done withou wheeling out Paul McCartney again though. His voice is now shite!

Overall the ceremony was much better than I expected, I actually enjoyed it.

Well I did see some band rumors for the closing Ceremony - The Who & Ray Davies were amongst those mentioned

I've seen mention of The Who, Jessie J, Annie Lennox, the Spice Girls, Queen, George Michael... not many good ones in there, but I'll wait and see. Hopefully there will be some good surprises, the opening ceremony was certainly better than expected, let's hope the closing ceremony is too.

I've really enjoyed this Olympics, got into it more than since the '70s and '80s - probably influenced by the home venue of course. Lots of great stories in all kinds of sports for all sorts of nations, brilliant performances by team GB and an excellent crowd. Honestly didn't think it'd grip me like it has, but it's been fantastic compulsive viewing for me. Great to see GB feeling good about itself as a new Sabbath album is on the horizon...

The closing ceremony for the most part was just awful. It seemed like they were catering for the Saturday night TV crowd who love watching crap like X-Factor.

Apart from that, I really enjoyed these Olympics.

well I just love NBC - they cut Kate Bush, Muse, Ray Davies & the Who to show their new sit com animal practice - at least Youtube has some of the performances but really - would it have killed them to actually show the closing ceremony instead of promoting a stupid sit com?

It was a good show, but most of the acts were rubbish...part from Spice Girls, The Who, Queen w/ Jessie J and the always enternaining mr. Eric Idle...
