Default RIP Dickie Peterson

Dickie Peterson, Bassist and Singer for Blue Cheer, passed away this morning at 5am in Germany. Causes still have not been released to the public, I learned of his death through the Blue Cheer Myspace and Facebook accounts. Truly a legend, a man who was credited for introducing a proto metal sound which eventually snowballed into Heavy Metal. I will defiantly miss him, a great example of how your never to old to love rock n' roll!

Got a link for that? I checked out Blue Cheer's myspace page, and all I could find was an entry saying that his health had taken a turn for the worse. Nothing about him dying.

I really hope it isn't true. I love Blue Cheer.

The official statement sent out in a bulletin for all users said this:
"I am heartbroken to have to announce that my friend and an icon, Dickie Peterson, has died this morning in Germany. He was a true rock and roller and lived to play. He will be missed. Love you Dickie." - Gabrielle (Person who runs page)

Anyway, I will work on a link, but I am fairly sure this is true.

Ah okay, I just figured that there might have been some confusion as to what happened or something. Sounds legit enough to me.

This is really sad news. Blue Cheer is in my opinion one of the best heavy rock bands in the world, and even late in their career where most bands have faltered, Blue Cheer kept plugging. What Doesn't Kill You... was an excellent album.

Iron Butterfly, Frijid Pink, and Blue Cheer are what got me listening to hard rock so many years ago. RIP to another pioneer and legend.

From the Facebook Group - a message sent to all members

"Dickie went into the hospital for prostate cancer and the doctors found liver cancer. He had treatment for the liver cancer. As a result he got a gall bladder infection. Then Dickie developed some sort of sepsis." - Gabrielle Schaffer

I was no big Blue Cheer fan, but the deaths of gifted, much-loved musicians always give me a sickening sinking feeling. And Dickie's death does no less.

RIP Dickie. Rest assured you live on in the hearts and minds of your greatest fans.
