Any official or unofficial theories?

I guess because his last name sounds too much like Rob Halford's. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Have to admit, "Tony Martin" sounds much cooler than "Tony Harford" anyways. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I agree with RussianRover. I guess he just felt it would be better this way.

This isn't uncommon. 2/3 of the members of Kiss changed their names.

His real name is actually Anthony Harford. I guess Tony Martin sounds cooler. It rolls off your tongue.

Tony is just short for Anthony, so that's not really a name change per se.

It's just like Frank Anthony Iommi becoming Tony Iommi.

If I remember correctly Tony picked up the "Martin" name from a band he was in. One person had that last name so they were referred to as "the Martins." It was a case of it just sticking. It's talked about in the "Never Say Die!" book.

Many Hardrock players changed their name to some name that sounds cooler.

All I'll say is that none of the guesses in this thread are correct. Tony once told me what the true answer is, and it was on my website for awhile.

But he asked me to remove it, and due to that request, I will honor him and not say what the real answer is.
