  • Anything new on Tony's bad back?

According to the black-sabbath.com tour calendar there have been four shows since the canceled show (due to Tony's bad back). I didn't see any reviews but didn't see any more commentary on canceled shows?

Should I assume these shows went on as scheduled?

I went to the graspop metal meeting show, on june 26. They Played the gig, but cut follow the tears from the setlist. But I think that was because of the playtime they had on the festival, 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The gig was good, but there was something wrong I think. I saw dio looking a couple times to the side of the stage while nodding no.

But overall it was OK, and I really enjoyed my first sabbath gig ever!

the Paris show of the 23rd june was OK without problems with Tony's back.
the merchandising guy told me that Tony is well.

you can read a review (in english) of the Paris show here :

here's something interesting found in this live report :
Hard to understand that the show's not sold-out , yesterday they've cancelled the gig in Toulouse : they've only sold 500 tickets out of 3000 .

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the report. Kidney stones can cause horrible back spasms.

Chugging 2oz of olive oil with 2 oz of lemon juice is one technique that many swear by. Unfortunately, Tony is not likely to hear about such a "home remedy" unless somebody on his staff googles it up. There are other approaches, too.

I was looking at photographer Ross Halfin's site and his diary entry for June 27 - after the Milan gig - and he says he managed to get a few words with Tony, who said he had a cracked rib. Playing guitar with a cracked rib...eesh

Halfin is a Sabbath/H&H fan and has known the band a very long time, but he has things to say about their tour camp this time around, specifically the unpleasantness of the people in it. Halfin does not always come across as a great guy himself, so make of it what you will. http://rosshalfin.com/diary/june-200...-june-2009.php

Well, we finally know what caused it.
Which means Tony has been performing with Morphine.
Unpleasent people in the camp? Oh, shit. This doesn't bode well.
                Someone gonna get the boot?

                Haha, just kidding.

Thanks for sharing that. You're right, this Ross guy comes off as a bit of a self-righteous douchebag, bitching about anyone who doesn't bow down to him. This is the first Ive heard of Iommi's rib being an issue, I doubt it's true. Regardless, he looks fine in the Bonn footage, I'd say he's turned the corner, whatever the problem was.

Ross give the paparazzi a bad name! What a pompous ass. Sounds like he was trying to barge into Iommi's room ... I'll bet he got removed from the photo pit because either he wasn't credentialed properly to be there in the first place, or else he was getting in the way of somebody H&H had contracted to shoot for them ... but of course those tidbits wouldn't make the guy's diary.

I'm amazed he could fit his entire ego in the building.

Indeed. This creep is the kind of Rock parasite who pictures himself bigger than the superstars themselves.

Been interesting to see what you all make of Ross Halfin. I check out his site from time to time - he gets to see a lot of bands and puts up a lot of photos. Now, it's just my personal opinon, but I find his running commentary on the people he meets gets old, fast. There's quite a lot of sexist, racist, homophobic stuff dressed up as a joke, so you know it isn't. It's not cool. Imagine the kids who post on Blabbermouth, aged 50, with no intervening personal development. On July 1 (diary entry) Ross got to bitch to Ozzy and Sharon about his treatment at the hands of H&H - in current circumstances, the lawsuit and everything, also not cool.

To get back to the subject of this thread, I just hope Tony can keep in shape and keep doing what he's doing. He's managed past injuries pretty well. H&H have only one UK gig listed this year - Aug 1 at Knebworth, a long way from where I am. May they stay in good health and tour here again soon.

Ross has been around a while and knows most of these people personally since forever. I don't see why he should be required to kiss anybody's ass, he's entitled to call them like he sees them. Besides he's British, they take the piss out of everybody.

There's a difference between kissing ass and simply not acting like a dick. I deal with race drivers in a similar fashion that Ross deals with rock stars, and if I'm told I can't get into a driver's hauler or that I can't barge into someone's motorhome I don't get pissy about it. And I certainly don't write a freaking diary about it ... I think that in itself just shows he wants everybody to admire him for his connections. He's a twit with a camera.
