  • 2 studio albums within a year

Not many bands had the ability & enough material to release 2 studio albums within the same year, but the ones who have managed that are still some of the best in the business...Here are my examples - note that they are my favourite bands, not just bands dug out from Wikipedia...

    - Shades Of Deep Purple 1968
    - The Book Of Taliesyn 1968

    Black Sabbath
    - Black Sabbath 1970
    - Paranoid 1970

    Uriah Heep
    - Salisbury 1971
    - Look At Yourself 1971
    - Demons And Wizards 1972
    - The Magician's Birthday 1972

    Deep Purple

    - Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap 1976

    Judas Priest
    - Stained Class 1978
    - Killing Machine/Hell Bent For Leather 1978

    Motorhead
    - Overkill 1979
    - Bomber 1979

    Saxon

Wasn't Killing Machine released in 1979?

With Accadacca, TNT & the internation version of High Voltage are basically the same record.

I think KISS released both Destroyer & Rock'n'Roll Over in 1976...

Yes they did, and they also released "Kiss" and "Hotter Than Hell" in 1974

Yeah, the international High Voltage "compilation" includes the majority of the songs of the Australian T.N.T. but only 2 songs from the Australian High Voltage. Then came Dirty Deeds on the same year. So basically 2 albums in 1975 for Australia and two albums in 1976 for the rest of the world.

Two albums a year? How about FOUR albums released in 2008. This is an awesome black metal/ambient band.

              BAck on topic...

There was that little spell back in the 90's when acts thought it was cool to release two average albums at the same time rather than one great one...

1991 - GnR - Use Your Illusion I & Use Your Illusion II

1992 - Bruce Springsteen - Human Touch & Lucky Touch

Indeed. And after 30 years the sources have become many, even 2 different album names. Even the release months in 1978 vary from October to November. KK Downing's site says Killing Machine in 1978 for UK but Hell Bent For Leather for US in 1979. And Judas Priest site says the album is Hell Bent For Leather while the band themselves have consistently stated that the album is Killing Machine.

I guess I agree with your statement that G'n'R released two average albums, of which one great album could have been made. My G'n'R world consists of the best songs taken from Appetite and Illusion I & II.

It is not that hard to understand gentlemen. The US did not want the title Killing Machine because of stated 'murderous implications' AND it featured The Green Manalishi, while the rest of the world got the version that did not.

It was actually in February that Hell Bent For Leather hit stores in the US and Killing Machine hit stories in the UK in October of '78. But they are both, with the exception of one song, the same album.
