Both of those covers, as well as a couple other covers, were originally found on their debut album Shades of Deep Purple.

Yes, I was a kid then and didn't have money to buy all the albums I wanted. Heck, I didn't even have Machine Head. But I found this little Best Of for about 50 cents in the used record section. I found quite a few little gems in that used record section. (Including Paranoid for 25 cents.)

Not a best by any means. But her voice alone makes this an improvement over the original.

Their own output has been mediocre at best post Black Album, but they seem to nail covers time and again. Ronnie Rising Medley and this come to mind as shining examples:

"The consequence of conscience/Is that you'll be left somewhere/Swinging in the air"-Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) R.I.P. King Of Metal
"Just take a look around you what do you see/Pain, suffering, and misery/It's not the way that the world was planned/It's a pity you don't understand" - Geezer Butler
"If god is in heaven/How can this happen here" - Phil Lynott (1949-1986)

^^^ Great to hear James singing in a lighter, more mellow voice than usual. Could do without the drums, though...
95% of everything i say is pure bullshit just for the fun of it. The other 95% is damn serious!
