  • What are the five greatest songs of all time?

Of the modern age, of course. Pop/Rock/Metal/Disco anything goes but country and rap.

    I'll give it a go:

    Hey Jude
    Stairway to Heaven
    Freebird
    Billie Jean
    Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Songs must be OBJECTIVELY good, not subjectively.

    Let's break it down:

Some people say "Hey Jude" or "Stairway" is played out. That's fine, but it's also a subjective opinion that is moot when what we're talking about is the
actual composition itself, not how many times it was played.

On the other hand, you have a very Popular and enduring song like "Hotel California" but it would seem that 90% of people actually hate Hotel California.

    It doesn't make the cut.

For this reason, it would be very, very difficult for a Metal song to make the top five.

We're on a Black Sabbath site, so there's going to be a bias, we have to side-step that bias in order to be objective.

In other polls, we've all settled on "War PIgs" by majority consensus as best Black Sabbath song. (Not interested in arguing that point here)

But to make the top five of all time? Objectively we must concede that WP is a downer for most people.

Therefore, Sabbath simply does not make the top five.

I believe the top five should, perhaps, include a song from the dawn of RnR, Maybe Twist and Shout, Tutti Frutti, Hound Dog, Rock Around the Clock etc.

Tough to pick one from those, my guess is the later two.

Some other nominees: "Won't Get Fooled Again" "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

                    Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
The Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
                    Larry Wallis - Police Car
Molly Hatchet - Fall Of The Peacemakers
AC/DC - Let There Be Rock

                    These are subjectively.

Objectively: Yesterday, Satisfaction, Smoke On The Water, Bohemian Rhapsody, Stairway To Heaven.
