  • Saddest Song Ever

(Please do not confuse this with my most depressing album thread...despressing and sad are NOT the same thing)

What do you think the saddest song ever is?

I think The Gunner's Dream - Pink Floyd. It's about a WW2 plane gunner's thoughts as his plane is being shot down. Nearly brings a tear to my eye every time I listen to it

A few that always get to me are "Fingers to the Bone" by Deep Purple, "Pictured Within" by Jon Lord, "Runaway" by Blue Murder, "Wonderworld" by Elf, "Rainbow Eyes" by Rainbow, "Spread Your Wings" by Queen, and "Hello, Again" by Tommy Bolin.

Either "Rainbow Eyes" by Rainbow, "When a blind man cries" by Deep Purple or "Solitude" by Sabbath.

Ah yes, that's another good one. Though the saddest version is the orchestral version from Live At Rotterdam Ahoy.

When a Blind Man Cries or Clearly Quite Absurd by Deep Purple.
It Falls Through Me by Iommi / Hughes.
No Stranger to Love by Black Sabbath.

          Can't really pick...

wish you were here never struck me as sad

solitude is certainly a sad song, and the concept of fool in the rain by led zeppelin is sad, but the way they present it (musicwise) isnt as much

What is the concept of "Fool In The Rain"?

To that end, by the way, Zeppelin's "All My Love" is extremely sad if you know what it's about.

Ah! Soldier of Fortune, yeah, but for some reason it doesn't really do anything for me. I don't find it "credible"...

"All My Love" By Led Zeppelin is a tribute to Plant's son Karac who died in 1977.

Summer's Rain by Savatage is the saddest song I've ever heard. That and "Believe" by Savatage.
