• Deep Purple vs. Rainbow vs. Blackmore's Night

Oh no! Another poll!! Well I think this is a difficult one. I first thought putting only Deep Purple and Rainbow as options, but added Blackmore's Night there also 'cos I was thinking this guestion from a perspective of Ritchie Blackmore and what is his best work... I'm think it's really hard to say which one is better; Rainbow or Deep Purple. My vote goes to Deep Purple at the moment, but my opinion will most likely to change...

Deep Purple definitely (especially post-Blackmore). Rainbow is a typical spin-off project (of course it has produced some brilliant songs), and no matter how I tried to like Blackmore's Night, I failed.

It was a tough call, but I picked Rainbow over Purple.

This is hard to pick, Coverdale era DP vs. Dio era Rainbow.

All beats Blackmore's Night anyway!

Oh, all three, actually

Purple: Coverdale Era
Rainbow: Bonnet era
Blackmores Night: everything :-)

This was easy for me - Deep Purple.

Deep Purple has a better overall career; after Dio left Rainbow it more or less sucked IMO, with few exceptions. I haven't heard any BN, but I REALLY want to.

I never really got into Dio-era Rainbow too much. I MUCH prefer the Bonnet-era. Down To Earth is easily my favourite Rainbow album.

Same here. Sure, I apreciate the Dio era too, but Bonnet is easily in my top 3 vocalists ever. He delivers a range and raw power that is unmatched in any other Rainbow album.

Rainbow beats all of them.

Definitely Deep Purple. I can't imagine anyone picking Night.

What about Ritchie's career as a session guitarists the 4 or 5 years before DP was formed? He played on some pretty great songs then as well and got to play with some legends; Gene Vincent, Screaming Lord Sutch, & The Outlaws.

Anyways, Deep Purple, Rainbow, & Blackmore's Night differ from each other, but are all good. So im not really gonna pick one or the others i suppose.

Deep Purple b/c that is where he honed the style that would make Rainbow so successful. If you start with the 1st Purple album (shades) and work your way through his last 70s album w/Purple (stormbringer), you'll be amazed by his musical growth. I love Rainbow, but I don't hear a whole lot of development beyond what he had already accomplished in DP.
