I really do not listen for inspiration. I find that I am inspired to write by what is happening around me. I do find that the bands I love have helped with a sound and style. I also find that when my life is in the shitter my songs are so much better. I have tried to write like some of my fabs..like Sabbath, AC/DC, Headstones, Sex Pistols etc...
Songwriting is hard for me cause I am trying to write and create something that sounds natural and not mechanical...thatís the real talent. Here is a song I am working on in the studio...this is a very rough mix after 2 sessions. I will post it once the final vocals have been put on and we have mixed it with the leads etc...

When I do write, and I write often. Most of mystuff is Black Sabbath orientented. Well something like that, inspiration comes at all times for me. I was listenting to Bon Jovi's New Album and Sabbath's Greatest hits last night, and yeah, something hit me. But yeah...

Vocals - Bruce Dickinson, Phil from Pantera, Ozzy
Guitars - Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde
Bass - Geezer Butley
Drums - Randy Castilo, Peter Criss
Lyrics - Doom, Country, Metal, Death

But if i had a sound for myself it'd be Sabbath meets Maiden meets Pantera and "New Metal" like Roach, and Disturbed.

I only write lyrics, and I consider them to be inspired more by classic poetry and books than other bands' lyrics. I also have music to go with the lyrics, but I don't know how to write them down or play them... blast my dearth of musical ability...

hmmm
ive nevr really anylised my song writing in this way.
I guess when i started out i always used basic power chords and melodies like sabbath. but i dunno. I try and play what comes to my head. So i guess my son writing has been influenced by every single peice of music ive heard.

I've been working on a song with the same format as Sabbath's self-title song, ya no slow heavy riff then bring it down, do a verse, bring it back up heavy, repeat, fast riff, verse, solo. I'm thinking of doing like the origional version with the fast part tease then pick up the heavy slow riff, ect

Same here, I just can't seem to fit it correctly though. It doesn't flow like Sabbath's selftitled song.

heum...

lyrics: Ozzy, Avril Lavigne (bash me all you want, but I love her) Def Leppard, Simple Plan, Green Day.

guitar: AC/DC, Zakk Wylde, Simple Plan..Queen

Drums...I like mostly like Ozzy's, but AC/DC is cool too

But my songwriting isn't very good, in my opinion, but my ex boyfriend loved them all. The hard part for me is finding a melody, but I'm ok with lyrics..

These were my influences a while ago, let's see how they've changed.

Guitar: Sabbath, Metallica, White/Rob Zombie. Some other influences like Pink Floyd but not much.
Singing: Rob Zombie, Ozzy, some David Gilmor
Lyrics: Sabbath, Floyd, Zombie
Drums: Sabbath
Overall Song: Sabbath, Zombie

So not much, but more White/Rob Zombie influence
