Hey bruce190, maybe I should post my reply to this in the 'What Pissed You Off Most Today' thread, right?? Seriously, how could you even pit these two in a poll..Hehe, no problem mate..Like you said, you are just curious. Lemme tell you that the only things the two bands have in common are long hair, and California.

Anyway, I'd vote for Slayer ANYTIME, EVERYTIME. Slayer will forever be one of my most loved bands of all time. Red Hot Chilli Peppers is not even a blip on the horizon for me. But since apparently there aren't too many fervent Slayer fans like me out here, you might get a close contest. RHCP, a.k.a Really Horrible Crooning Poodles might even win.

After recent experience, I'd say the ULTIMATE Heavy Metal Band is Pantera.

In 1998 I was at the Nummirock festival in Finland and Slayer and Pantera performed the same day. Slayer first, and Pantera two hours later. It was an ultimate Heavy Metal moment when the Slayer guys came back on stage during Pantera's gig with a few beer/vodka bottles to goof around. And also, Pantera played a bit Of Iron Maiden's The Number Of The Beast just for fun.

These two bands are so far apart in the musical spectrum...where's the comparison. Anyway, I'm going with Slayer. Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood and South of Heaven are classic metal albums. I can do without their other releases. Never liked RHCP I think it's the vocal style.

Yeah, they did that at the UK Ozzfest that year too! I'd forgotten about that, thanks for reminding me.

It was even mentioned in Kerrang! when Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith rejoined Maiden the following year, because there was a really big cheer from the crowd when Pantera started playing it.

That's what happens when people die too soon. Even deserving musicians, like Randy Rhoads, are elevated from "great" to "super-human" status.

Just for the record BlackStone, I am NOT one of those martyr-worshipping fans, or some ambulance-chasing marketing guy.

I loved Pantera from the very first time I heard them. I was convinced that they were my favourite modern metal band long before Dime was tragically slain. So at least I can speak for myself when I tell ya that Pantera is my personal MVP of Metal, regardless of the premature demise of Dime AND indeed Pantera itself.

Yeah, Pantera was truely a great band. I have their albums and I saw them live and they just ruled.

What I'm saying is that dying seems to be the best thing an artist can do, from the marketing point of view. For example, I had never heard of that rnb singer Aaliyah (or what was her name) before her death, but suddenly everyone from Madonna to her neighbour were telling the world that she was the greatest talent on earth. And all her albums probably went multi-platinum the next week.

And I'm not comparing Aaliyah to the great late Dimebag Darrell! It just amazes me that a down-to-earth kind of guy like Darrell becomes almost a saint overnight.
