Default What movies have you seen recently?

The most recent movie I saw was "The Ruins".

This is what I thought:

I thought this movie blew. The blond chick's brief nude scene was the only thing I really liked about it. The movie had a surplus of "gross" and a deficit of "scary"; also, a lot of the screen writing had the feel of a generic young-adult-tourist on vacation thriller (ex. Hostel, etc).

Spoilers Below in Black (Highlight to view):

Also, the "antagonist" was a man-eating plant that looked like a ripoff of "Little Shop of Horrors".

Other Movies I saw:

Persepolis- Excellent
Vantage Point - Meh
No Country for Old Men - Good

...Dead Silence. It's sad to know that the creators of the original Saw, which is by far the best of them all, could release something so childish and arrogant as this. Even my fifteen year old daughter found this boring and stupid. We watched the end just to see what the twist was everyone had talked about and I was like, "Yawn, SAW THAT COMING"

It is not a brand new movie, but I just watched "300", and I thought it was a kick ass movie! One of the best I have seen in a while.

The last one we saw was "Juno." Ellen Page is a good young actress.

The next ones we want to see, in no particular order:

"Smart People"
"Stop Loss"
"Forgetting Sarah Marshall"

It's rare we go to movies anymore, since so much of what Hollywood is putting out just doesn't do it for us.

Saw "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" last night... kind of in the same vein as "knocked up", etc. Pretty decent.

We saw "Smart People" on the weekend. Very boring, except for Ellen Page - she was great with smart-arse comebacks.

Next will be "Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay." We loved the original.

Next up on the Netflix queue: No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Probably the two best films of 2007 from what I've heard, so I am looking forward to watching them.

Netflix sent kids films (yes, I take turns with the kids) for this past weekend: Over the Hedge, Antz and Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit. My son liked them, and from what I saw these are funny, funny movies (especially Wallace & Gromit). Antz is mostly adult humor, but most kids movies are like that anyway. The Woody Allen spiel in the opening five minutes is worth the whole cost of the movie right there.

I just watched "Seabiscuit" from 2003 or something like that. They should have named it "Seaboring."
